Determination and Loyalty at its finest. The humans outside knew that the others inside would die trying to kill Apocalypse, so they created a failsafe to crush him to death. The humans inside knew they will die against the others yet they go to die, knowing the failsafe would be ready. The mutates of Apocalypse didn't see the threat yet laid down their own life to see their master live throughout the ages to be ready for his return when it was his time. This was one of the best moments of the movie.

I feel that most movies have a spark of brilliance in at least one scene, and this is definitely it for X-men. The soul behind each side is what makes it so great, and it's always impressive when you can see both sides with respect in a scene; the horsemen might be supporting a crazed dictator and clearly earned the humans' betrayal, but it's hard not to respect devotion that's strong enough to be willing to die for another.

I think we saw Big A building this pyramid in the Days of Future Past post credit scene. Since I doubt he would have made such an easily activated self destruct system in the structure holding the most important bit of tech he has, this cabal that betrayed him must of secretly excavated and rigged it this way. Something that likely would have taken decades. The fact they were able to do that secretly, and that all the central chamber guards and entrance guards were in on the assassination plot, speaks to a large conspiracy that persisted for a long while, which also indicates that Apocalypse wasn't the greatest of rulers. that's a good point. I think the impulse is to portray villains as weak and 'vicious' in the sense that they are full of vice and not virtues (like self sacrifice or bravery or cleverness etc). How awesome would it have been if we got an entire movie of Apocalypse and his rise to power, culminating in his golden age in Ancient Egypt? Imagine yourself? You wake up, and suddenly the world you knew is completely gone. In 60 years, people went from building first aircraft/plane to flying to space. That is one lifespan. The dude got awoken from 1000+ lifespans worth of sleep. Even with powers to speed up understanding, that is A LOT of catching up to do. And he, instead of spending years to adapt to the new world and come up with a reasonable plan… did whatever. Probably, so culture-shocked and confused, he longed for familiarity…. So, he naturally assumed that picking up low-lives with power (what worked for him in that century) would work in the current. It does not. Typical example of cognitive anchor bias. So, yes, teens with super powers, OPTIMIZED to fight threats of modernity, were more skilled to fight at their own home turf. Progress is a scary thing. It is a massive advantage.

Lol Right! And some mutants who aren't even loyal at that.

This wasnt a terrible film. It had very good scenes and moments. This one was a banging way to begin any film. No dialogue really, just music and visual build up. And action! The other one with Magneto in the process of enacting his justified revenge only for Apocalypse to turn up and do it for him was great. The one with him taking control of every nuclear missile in the world and sending them off into orbit was very unexpected. Abd highlights just what Xavier could do if he was bad. The problems appear when the film makers tried to put so much emphasis on Jennifer Lawrence (Mistique). An XMen film about Apocalypse should have focussed on him mainly. Some Professor X/Magneto love/hate is expected also which is fine. But Apocalypse is a one mutant army. Look at the 90s animated series "Beyond good and evil" 4 part episode. That did Apocalypse serious justice.

Human entertainment needs drama. If superpowers worked and were applies logically, it would be a very grim world full of despair, because of how RELIABLY BORING they would be. Superman? Big brother that hears and sees all. Most enemies defeated by laser dropped from outer space (see Alice in Borderland laser system). Even if you send a ballistic missile with kryptonite to him, he is in higher atmosphere levels at least, without need for sleep, food or about anything. He will see that rocket flying from hours away (and month to get to him, given super speed). Teleportation character? Enjoy your organs being ripped off by portals… or…. you know…. them teleporting nukes and explosive devices anywhere and anything (perfect delivery system). Obviously you will never catch them either. Oh? A country combines their effort to track them down? Guess it is time to teleport Mount Everest very high in the sky, and flatten a country with an improvised meteor. Force fields? Invincible enemy. And yes, enjoy your head being “popped” or your inner organs being severed with portals in fashion like that headpop woman from “the Boys”. Mind control? Killgrave or (if smarter) Lelouch Vi Britannia. There is a movie called “dark minds” or something, about teenagers getting superpowers, and it shows how one telepath can essentially rule the world all by themselves. Anything with human factor in it will be their domain. Superheroes in media have amazing powers used in the most INEFFECTIVE way possible to end threats. Example: This guy slings web. Oh no, now he also needs super-strength to use that gimmicky round-about efficiently. AND super-reflexes. And 10 other things to justify using web. Reality: A guy who can stop a train with a his arms can just finger-flick you through a concrete wall… or just grab you by the neck… what are you gonna do? Risk being manually decapitated from a squeeze? Any superpowers, if not borderline useless, would be “instant win button” to life. Stories featuring them would be immensely boring. So, writers give characters amazing powers, used in the least effective way possible… heroes practically throw a fight for the human enemy to do so something. The only beings capable of realistically contesting a super-human being would also be super-human
