In the comics, Azazel and Mystique were Nightcrawler's parents. They've since retconned it so that Mystique and a woman named Destiny are his parents.

Well, it’s really more like a progressive correction, since that was what the original writer wanted to do, but Marvel said no.

What is a “progressive correction”??? It is retroactive continuity. They went back and changed the origin. Thus “retcon”. Also, Len Wein created the character. The idea to make him Mystique and Destiny’s son came from Chris Claremont. So it wasn’t the original writer’s idea.

This is the time to prove it. There are thousands of men on those ships. Good, honest, innocent men! Rebecca Romijn is a severely underrated actress and did a wonderful job as the original Mystique. That said, I agree that the writers, producers, directors, etc. of the earlier X-Men films did not give her much to work with. I don't think anyone really knew what Romijn could do when the first X-Men movie was being written. She was hired pretty much to be a beautiful model for the sexy mutant. That set the precedent for the character in the following films that really didn't change until First Class.

The only major criticism I have of the movie is that Darwin died. He should have basically survived anything.
@pazz5 ай бұрын
The character of Darwin is supposed to be unkillable, that's like his whole thing in the comics. So for him to die in this movie's first conflict is a tragic disservice to the character. They could have done some very cool things with him had they kept him alive. He can't choose how his body adapts, so sometimes it adapts in a way that hinders him but allows him to survive. If he encountered this in the comics, He would have adapted to process and expel pure energy (potentially harming those around him) or by briefly gaining Shaw's same powers to harness and redirect that energy. Honestly, the sky's the limit with Darwin, he is UNKILLABLE. In the comics he once faced Hela (the goddess of death from Thor Ragnarok) who can kill someone with a touch, So he adapted by becoming a death god himself, unaffected by her touch.

I'm not personally keen on this film as a whole, but I really do love the casting, and the Charles/Xavier dynamic is just perfectly done. McAvoy and Fassbender are just excellent in their roles both on their own and as a duo. Though I have to say (and I'm far from the only one to say/think this) that Darwin got done dirty, I'd love for them to have kept him in as his powers have a lot of oppertunity to be creative in adapting to survive any situation. Apparently in the comics he once came up against the Hulk, and while at first his mutation developed the ability to absorb gamma radiation, it realised that wasn't enough to counter something like Hulk, so it instead just teleported him halfway across the country.
