I heard about an emotional issue of a series by either Alan Moore or Grant Morrison (I want to say The Invisibles, but I could be wrong). Most of the issue showed this guy, an average Joe, dating his girlfriend, proposing to said girlfriend, planning their future together, etc. The big emotional twist came at the end, when it was revealed this guy, this ordinary guy who had been looking forward to spending the rest of his life with his loved ones, had been one of the guards/henchmen killed by the protagonists in a previous issue. They had burst in and slaughtered everyone in sight. It was thought-provoking because it showed things aren’t black and white. Henchmen can be people too and not necessarily evil, unfeeling monsters. Who knows how involved with/aware of any of the evil plot this poor schmuck was? Say what you want about the writer, but that issue had nuance instead of this overly simplistic, “They’re not one of us, so they must be evil trash unworthy to live and you must celebrate us massacring them or you’re a bigot!” garbage.

Because they are right and you're wrong, and if it takes violence to get rid of you and your opinions, that's perfectly fine or at least justified. Kitty: 'Keep it looking at you.' Polaris: 'That’s why I --UGHN!-- put on makeup'

The point of raiding that facility was to rescue the mutant kids Orchis was holding there. It is very easy to miss that they did in fact rescue the kids given how badly written the issue was. There's 1 panel of Magik hitting the button that lets the kids out of their cells and 1 of the kids running out of the building. Even Hickman failed at building up Orchis as a threat because he wrote that Krakoa kept sending Wolverine and Quentin over and over again to get slaughtered over and over again rather than put any thought into it. Duggan, the guy who over and over again just has Jean automatically win because she's 'omega,' was never going to be able to make them a realistic threat when Hickman couldn't. I wish writers would start remembering that Magik's origin story has her sparing the man who kidnapped her, murdered her friends and family, and tortured her for 7 years, because killing in anger even once would turn her into a demon forever. But ever since Louise Simonson decided to retcon her origin into her having killed Belasco back when she took over New Mutants from Claremont in the late 80s, writers have forgotten that she's the last character who should ever be comfortable with killing given she risks turning into an unstoppable world-ending rage-monster if she does it even once.

If the leaks for the July reboot are to be trusted, then Magik's situation will only get worse as she appears to be the next big X-Men antagonist. Hopefully this turns out false but you never know with the Marvel's editorial.

@@spinningtornado4543 They announced the main X-Men books of the post-Krakoa era yesterday. The 3 books are X-Men by Jed MacKay, Uncanny X-Men by Gail Simone, and Extraordinary X-Men by Eve L. Ewing. Magik is confirmed to be on the team led by Cyclops and Magneto in the MacKay book.
@spinningtornado454310 ай бұрын
I agree with you : Orchis is such a badly put together antagonist for the X-Men. Every single anti-mutant group we had in the past eras at least had something positive or interesting going for them to set them apart from the ones preceding it... But not Orchis. That anti-mutant group is on some award-winning levels of both stupidity and incompetence as well as being on a Saturday morning cartoon villain's degree of obvious and extreme evil but with none of the entertaining extravaganza that usually comes with the character trope. It gets to the point where readers genuinely have to pause and ask themselves how that group got on top of the social ladder and became such a threat to mutants from being this incompetent at dealing with PR and mutants.
@spinningtornado454310 ай бұрын
@@garywillig5143 Sounds promising. Hopefully they don't pull any kind of bait and switch with the characters or have Magik do an unexpected heel turn for the sake of it.

I remember Emma Frost from the Hellfire club uncanny Xmen 130 to 141 in that era. THAT was when comics were well written, well drawn and just plain great. 132, 133, and 134 into dark Phoenix in 134, 135 and 136 and Xmen 141 "days of future past" when only kitty pride and Wolverine were left. So well written and such good stories from thr 1980's when I waited for each new episode with massive anticipation.

The reason Marvel hired the Tumblrinas is because that's what Hollywood did with animators. Pendleton Ward of Adventure Time opened the doo, and when the Studios, like Disney, ESPECIALLY Disney but also WBD, noticed that these political, no talent hacks could be hired for literal pennies and the artstyle was incredibly cheap to animate, Hollywood let these weirdos in. Hollywood and comics are now intertwined and corrupted, poisoned. Welcome to yet more proof.

You would have no power. You'd be threatened by the Execs and their Pet writers. Remember the last time one of them got uppity and thought he could actually do his job? They outed him in front of the cult. Sure, to you and me, being Akira Yoshida wasn't a big thing, but the Hollywood dogma, that is a literal death sentence. They would have put him out on the street making sure he could never get another job and happily laughed as they watched Cebulski slowly die of starvation, never having to lift a finger. That's why there's no Editorial oversight in Marvel.

When Kate called off the Wedding to Colossus before she called it off Kate and Magik was having a heart to heart fans think they had feelings for one in other then Gambit & Rogue got Married instead. I forget the other comic that Dr. helped Cyclops and they figure out they have to work together to take down Orchis AI leaders they want to rule with out the mutants & humans . That's the whole problem with Krakoa era it seems like the books are putting out stories and not fucking talking to one in other . I forget what happen but the book the story arc hit 2 issues after it happen and it just happen. . The only X book i really liked was the Hellions and i only read it because Havok was on the team . Before Hellions i hated Greycrow ,Empath,Wildchild,Nanny & Orphan Maker now i kind of like them . . Hellions did treat everyone not name Psylocke in the book like crap and maybe that's why i liked the book other people where getting shit on now not just Havok
