This is exactly what I needed to see today. Quick fashion thoughts: 1. The men's shirtless outfits were saying, "We don't have to hide ourselves anymore." 2. I hate Von Doom's mask for the Gala. The rest of the outfit, though, reveals something: see the joints in his suit? No? That's because he doesn't have any hard joints at the elbows and knees or anywhere else. He always has then in his regular armors, but not here. However, Doom is always armored. So he has Stark's soft magnetic armor tech, but only wears it as a flex at a party where Tony Stark is attending. 3. The whole reason the third Xavier outfit works is because the man only looks right with a shirt on. 4. Magik's and Rachel's outfits are a bit upsetting to me because Magik was only Queen of Limbo because she was kidnapped there, and Rachel wore the red, studded outfit as a "hound" for mutant-hunters. So they're wearing their respective traumas as Gala costumes in an attempt to own their own histories. It just makes me wonder if it's working for them. 5. Re the shoeless looks: Namor is Atlantean and Vision is a robot. Everybody else should have the sense to consider broken glass at one of these events. If it couldn't be avoided at the Richards' wedding, how could the Gala possibly be drama-free?

Honestly, my issue with both Magik and Rachel is that thos gala outfits are just... bedazzled versions of their regular costumes. Like, that's just what Magik LOOKS like 90% of the time, and while Rachel's outfit is cool(ish), that's also just what she tends to look like whenever she goes ✨CRAE-ZEE!!!✨ AND, they're clearly not putting as much time into the dude's outfits, other than shirtless=sexy.

Honestly, I draw so much D&D and writing inspiration from both the Met and Hellfire Galas for things like cities of wizards, or other groups of powerful magical weirdos. Fae, infernal courts, the realms of the elemental princes. Anywhere that people should look amazing, but also defy practicality, these fits provide excellent set dressing. (Colossus dressed like this as a powerful prince of elemental earth? Think about it!) Agreed with all your takes, though I kind of like Emma's head slice headdress, I like how it suggests her powers without being too flashy. That diamond dress is amazing. So incredibly over the top, and yes, very sexy in a very unsubtle way, but also really regal and confident in a totally unrepentant way, and also gives a bit of that deific grandiose simplicity you were ascribing to Prodigy--who looks a bit more like a fey than and angel to me. Emma frost, Diamond Queen, her dress is just diamonds, she's practically naked, she looks better than all of you. Who else could really pull it off? {not Vision...} Her getting a haircut mid way is hilarious, can you imagine being at a big party and the hostess comes out missing a foot of hair and makes 0 comment?
