Ah the joys and chaos of playing this multiplayer! Honestly it's a great way to see all the different ways the game handles events, it's very easy to end up doing the same routes when playing single player. I hope you do more of these!

It's very Ben to basically LIKE only Astarion and finding Halsin nice. Of the origin characters I happen to like all of them, though Gale and Astarion are at the bottom for me (but still solid Bs on a tier list; Halsin would be an A)

@@MonarchsFactoryIncredibly fair. But when I consider the sorts of stories Ben seems to enjoy in D&D, Act 2 Halsin and Astarion's whole arc really fit his preferences. And a friend of mine needed a lot of time to get to like Lae'zel, saying that she WANTED to like her (especially bc she really loved a githzerai I played in a game with her) but that she was "too mean" too often xD

My big complaint about the companions in BG3 is that I wanted to find besties and instead I found coworkers. This game replicates so many of the personalities you find in corporate offices, which made it feel oddly less of an escape from my dayjob than I would like. Was it really not possible to write one genuinely friendly and loveable character? Even Karlach, while clearly the most loveable character, is, well, a barbarian. Astarion tries to kill you, Gale is arrogant, Shadowheart is cold and distant, Laezell is, well, just awful. Halsin is a boring himbo. Wyll and Karlach are the friendliest characters. But still, I didn't love ANY of them. They were kind of interesting in some cases. But not loveable at all. Not really even likeable. Larian even found a way to make Jaheira and Minsc less loveable than they were in BG2. Granted, BG3 has some of the best writing in video games in a long time. So you don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth. But many things about the writing just leave a lot to be desired, despite all the praise.

I see where you're coming from. I'm not super deep into their personal storylines at this point, so there's a good chance that I'll come to love them, but it's a really tough place to start us off by having everyone be really difficult to get along with for a not insignificant stretch of time
