So fun fact Captain America actually fought alongside Logan/Wolverine in WW2 when he was known as The Canadian. This was all featured in the comics but for the MCU because Fox owned the movie rights to X-Men Marvel was unable to use characters like Logan in the MCU without making a deal with Fox first. Origins of course came out before Captain America The First Avenger but it would've been so cool to see a Wolverine cameo in First Avenger. The whole intro to this movie is amazing and my personal favourite thing about Origins showing Logan going from each war. I heard rumours that Marvel tried to get a Hugh Jackman Logan cameo in Captain America: The First Avenger which would've connected the Fox X-Men movies to the MCU but it never happened and they continued to be separate. X-Men First Class released this same year as First Avenger 2011 while Origins: Wolverine released in 2009 so both X-Men and the MCU were coming out side by side up until 2019 so naturally it make since for Marvel to try and connect them together. and just have the X-Men predating The Avengers just like the comics. The cartoons, comics, and video games did not have this problem as it was solely the movie rights that Fox owned so Wolverine did show up as a cameo in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Hero's in Captain Americas first episode while Logan and Cap also worked together in X-Men: Evolution in WW2 so it's pretty cool seeing them together in an X-Men show and an Avengers show. Also on the topic of Deadpool don't worry everything post Days of Future Past pretty much retcons everything so the origins of the Deadpool we see in the Deadpool movies is much closer to the comics than what we got in Origins. I'll not go into spoilers but once you watch Days of Future Past you'll understand what I mean I just can't explain why because of spoilers.

I get why they couldn't get Hugh Jackman, but it definitely would've been cool if the MCU established Wolverine & Captain America as old war buddies for when they eventually introduce their own version of the character. I suppose it's not completely out of the question w/ Bucky still around, but would've been cool if it was Steve lol.

Gambit's powers if i remember correctly are kinetic energy he can conduct into matter around him, he typically is known for infusing that energy into his playing cards which are weapons to him, but he can do it with just about everything. I'm sure someone more proficient in X-men lore can give a more detailed answer than this but that's the jist of it.

Well, and for a card game enthusiast like Remy, playing cards are very good for throwing. Lots of card throwers can do some pretty cool things with them, but they don't really have the mass to be damaging on their own. Imbuing them with kinetic energy solves that problem.

From what I understand, Ryan Reynolds hated what they did with Wade Wilson (Deadpool) so much that he quit during the production and it was finished with someone else. Deadpool is known as, "The Merc With the Mouth" and in this movie, they literally sewed his mouth shut. I really love (some of) the X-Men movies... but honestly if you completely skipped Origins: Wolverine, Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix, and New Mutants (which wasn't as bad as these others, but, also not relevant to the rest of the franchise)... you wouldn't be missing much at all and your overall experience with the X-Men would be a lot more positive. Origins adds almost nothing to the story that couldn't already be inferred, apart from the relationship between Logan and Victor which they messed up anyway. And Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix were just such terrible films... would be so, so much better to close out the series with Days of Future Past, Logan, and Deadpool 2 than it would be to end with Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix, and New Mutants. On the other hand a lot of people hate The Last Stand which personally I think is flawed but underrated, and also necessary to the overall story much moreso than any of the 4 above mentioned films.

Hi Addie. 😀 Gambit is my favorite X-Men character. His mutant powers enable him to change the atomic structure of the molecules inside anything that he touches. He usually changes cards into explosives. But he can also change his clothes into armor. And I don't even know what exactly he does with that stick of his. I'm guessing that he made it very strong with his powers. The way that Gambit uses cards and other objects as exploding missiles is just the skill of the man known as Gambit. ♠♥♦♣ He is actually a relatively new character compared to others from X-Men. Gambit was created in the 1990s. Gambit, Remy LeBeau is from Louisianna and speaks with a "Cajun" accent. In the cartoons Wolverine calls him "the Cajun".

So Addie, just a couple of things to note about this movie and going forward because you'll likely run into some confusion down the road. This is where the X-Men franchise timeline starts to spiral out of control. It isn't nearly as coherent as the MCU where everything from each movie ties in perfectly later down the line. You'll start to notice tons of little plot holes and continuity errors everywhere. For example, it's not stated in this movie, but Victor is actually Sabretooth from the first X-Men film (despite Wolverine and Sabretooth not being brothers in the comics). So if they're actually brothers in the movies, why doesn't Sabretooth acknowledge this in the first film? As far as Deadpool goes, keep the Deadpool here separate from the future movies. It was Ryan Reynolds' ambition to make a comic-accurate Deadpool and the one seen here is a complete travesty. In the comics, Deadpool isn't actually a combination of mutant powers. He's best known for his wise-cracking mouth, his lewd humor, and breaking the fourth wall and yet they took all of that away from him here and made him a mindless mute puppet. It's a joke. Because of this, Reynolds was determined to bring Deadpool to the screen the right way and that's what he did years later. He completely rebooted Deadpool the right way. The Deadpool here in this movie won't be an origin story by any means. Lastly, just a bit of behind the scenes for you but this movie was intended by Fox to start off a whole series of "Origin" titled movies for different mutants where we would get individual backstories. The next Origin movie to follow this was supposed to be "Origins: Magneto" where we would see all about Magneto's past, but because this movie did so poorly, the whole "Origins" idea was scrapped. However despite being scrapped, Fox still actually did take the idea of diving into Magneto's past and reworked it elsewhere down the line. *hint*hint*tease*tease*

Gambit is one of the og X-Men. He has a long-standing relationship with rogue. He has the mutant ability to charge up anything that he touches and turn it into a time bomb or an impact bomb. This weapon of choice is a deck of cards and that staff. He has one of the hottest most interesting relationships with rogue and cosplayers frequently dress like them at Comic-Con. He also is my favorite X-Men because he is from where I am from New Orleans Louisiana.

I loved the display of Wade's blade ability in this movie. To answer your question, Wolverine's name is James Logan. But all he can remember is what Gambit told him..which was Logan. I wish they brought this actor back as Gambit again. Liev played his brother, and actually looks like the guy who played his father. Victor is also the character Sabertooth. In the first movie, he was the blonde headed beast looking man with Magneto. He and Logan hate each other, but don't remember why. Victor's mutation was different than Logan's because his actually turned him and his mind more beast like. You saw in the first movie he barely spoke. The brothers, however, do share the regenerative power. In the comics, different writers have changed the origin story between the two men. In some they are father (Victor) and son (Logan) instead of brothers. I can't remember if there's one where they're not related at all. Logan has serious PTSD between fighting in all those wars and then going through that excruciating pain of getting the Adamantium put over his skeleton.... Btw, Adamantium is this universe is a weaker version of Vibranium. But because of legal reasons, Fox had to change it to Adamantium. Again...expect inconsistencies. Hugh's body is a work of art and I am paying close attention to detail..😂

Long term, I feel this movie makes more sense if you know a bit about the history of superhero comics. For most of the 20th century, rules that were set up during the McCarthy days meant that comic books had to be fully episodic with bad guys never winning. There were also a lot of rules regarding traditional lifestyles (eg, no same sex relationship, no implied sex outside of marriage, etc.). The result is that until the mid-80s comics tended to have zero continuity and just throw everything they wanted into stories. The X-Men have fought vampires, Professor X dated the queen of an interstellar empire, characters sacrifice themselves in one comic to miraculously come back later, and so on. As the rules started to relax and multi-part stories started to emerge, fans started getting really into the idea of establishing continuities, but most of that continuity is an illusion. Even the big cross-title storylines tend not to matter when they're over. With all this in mind, don't think of the X-Men universe as being MCU-lite. It's not. Each episode might as well be its own story with only loose connections to other movies. The original trilogy was written to tell a connected story, but there are some big continuity problems even there. Origins: Wolverine tells AN origin of Wolverine, but not necessarily THE origin. First Class is essentially an alternate universe. Days of Future Past and Apocalypse are yet another alternate universe: they undo some of First Class' changes but don't revert everything. If you try to approach X-Men as MCU or a book series, this is all seriously annoying. So don't. These are a bunch of separate, episodic stories that reference other stories but aren't really connected. Just like the source material.

No spoilers, I promise. Victor - Victor is actually supposed to be Sabretooth from the first X-Men movie. It's a different actor, but it's meant to be the same character. Deadpool - I haven't read the comics, but apparently this version of Deadpool was very different than the comic version and fans absolutely HATED it. The two Deadpool movies ignored this film and went their own way, and were MUCH more popular with the fans. X-Men: First Class - This is a prequel, however what you need to realize is that the studio basically wanted to "reboot" the X-Men franchise with a younger cast, but didn't want the stigma that comes with just remaking a popular series. So someone came up with the idea of making a prequel, and then the studio said "Great! And after we slap on a flimsy excuse to explain it, we can basically do whatever we want and not worry about continuity." So, don't spend too much time worrying about how all the movies fit together from this point on. The studio didn't. X-Men: Days of Future Past - Make sure to watch the "Rogue Cut", not the regular one. Deadpool 2 - Watch this AFTER you watch Logan, as it has a spoiler in it. Also, watch the Deadpool 2 teaser, it's here on KZbin. It's a completely separate scene made just for the teaser, not taken from the movie. The New Mutants - It's listed as being part of the X-Men franchise, but it's really more of a horror movie. Yes, it's set in the X-Men universe, but it's really not connected to any other other films. There are also two live action TV shows set in the X-Men universe, The Gifted and Legion. I liked Gifted, but it ended on a bit of a cliffhanger. Legion was weird and I never watched it past the first season.

The short version for Gambit's powers is that he can control the kenetic energy in objects, he can make it become unstable and then make objects explode. Hence why he keeps the cards, with just one deck of cards he might as well be carrying give or take 52 explosives tucked away in one little pocket.

In this movie Creed was Logan's brother. However, in the 1990s cartoons they are not brothers. It is possible that they are, and that Logan lost the memory of it. In the cartoon Creed's father was called Jebidiah Creed and he was human. He tried to "beat the animal" out of poor young Victor Creed, Sabretooth. There was no indication that he was a mutant. In this movie Creed's father looked like him. It's all good, you get that in comic book stories. Different versions, different X-Men lineups. Like the Transformers. There are the live action movies, there are also cartoons and they all have different versions. Because of this movie there are 2 different versions of Deadpool, Wade Wilson. As you can see, they both have the same actor as the same character, but completely different stories. The Deadpool movie has an X-Men character called Colossus. He was one of the original X-Men in the comics. You saw a version of him in X2. He was the tall teenage boy that turned into a metal man. He said to Wolverine, "I can help you". And Wolverine said, "Help them!" That was a young version of the character. In the 1990s cartoon Colossus wants the X-Men to help him defend his country from an invading country. The never say the name of the country, but they depict it as a former Soviet state that is on the Black Sea. Anyone good at geography, even anyone with a map can see that there is only one country that could be in real life. This invasion in the cartoon depicted many former Soviet states been conquered by Russian communists, but the featured character Colossus was from the Black Sea nation and all the action with the X-Men takes place there. It is amazing that they thought to depict / predict such an invasion at that time when the Soviet Union was actually in the process of breaking up. Well X-Men is set in the not-too-distant future. 🤔 There is also an arc in that series about a world-wide plague caused by a virus that turns out to be airborne. Sound familiar? But it was written and aired in the early 1990s. Like 1991 / 1992. 😮 Like I said it was meant to be set in the future, but they really knew what they were doing. 😀 I hope we don't have a war between Mutants and Humans. 😧

Forget everything this movie had about Wade Willson and Deadpool - this director used him as a throw away character and messed up his origin. Gambit's power is he can turn the potential energy in any object to kinetic energy. Which basically means he can make things move fast and explode just through touch - this actor did a good job, but again the character was wasted.

In the Marvel-616 universe (main comic book continuity) Wolverine and Sabretooth are not at all blood related, aside from both being Canadian. Though they share a long and entangled past, they're not family. In the Marvel-161 universe (non-canon to the mainstream timeline), Sabretooth is revealed to be Wolverine's father. They have only ever been written as brothers in this one movie.

And as far as Xavier, one of the running theories about why he's alive in Future Past is because in the comics he had a twin brother that was clinically brain dead and somehow he was able to transfer his consciousness into him. As far as the chronological timing of him walking in the era of this movie's setting...... I haven't seen a theory on that yet. Nonetheless, all the movies are still fun to watch even if they aren't part of the movie canon.

My main issue with this movie is the inaccurate version of Deadpool. You will see what I mean when you watch Deadpool. However Wolverines origin story is still worth the watch. It's interesting that Logans given name is James Howlett and that Victor/ Sabretooth is his half brother. I'm a big fan of Wolverine especially since he's a fellow Canadian. Logan is definitely an old man having been born in late 1800's. It's to bad his brother Victor is a homicidal lunatic. I wish Kayla had just told Logan/Wolverine that Stryker had her sister rather than letting Stryker use her to manipulate and trick Logan. They were together 6 years a tragic love story.

So yeah....it set up nothing for the future unfortunately, because they retconned everything straight after this.

Logan can, and does, get used to the claws coming out. I would even posit that Logan has gotten used to being shot multiple times at once. Yes. It hurts him every time. But after being shot hundreds of thousands of times over a hundred years has a tendency to make someone slightly accustomed to that pain.
