Back in 2006 I went to see this movie with this beautiful girl I knew, and still remember her gasp at this scene when Warren spread his wings and flew. Hank McCoy in xmen first class hides his powers all the time, even when hes with friends and fellow mutants because they disgust him. I'm sure theres an element of discrimination they get from the humans that gets under their skin. But they mostly seem to hate their own powers, not the actual discrimination. Every gay kid in the world should've been cheering on this scene. Here you have a guy that lived half his life in misery just to appease his father and his father's 'phobia' of what he was. But right when his dad tried to have him 'cured', he realized that he had to live his own life and do what made him happy. Symbolic of bursting through the glass and flying to freedom. What a great and thought provoking scene.
