I went with Flowmaster American Thunder axle back and the scavenger x-pipe. Purchased separately plus the axle backs were on sale. Saved me about $400 total. The hangers were not positioned correctly and created a lot of headaches trying to line everything up. While it's on the car the left tip sets lower than the right. I had to use a pry bar to pull the pipe over far enough to fit into the hanger. When the weather warms up it's coming off and will probably go with Magnaflow which was my first choice in the planning stage. 2017 GT.
@Ken197004 жыл бұрын
For decades back in the old days everyone automatically thought that dual exhaust made more power on a V8/V6. When people actually began experimenting they learned that your basic single exhaust Y pipe worked best because there's a scavenging effect from one cylinder bank to the other. You just needed a large I.D. to allow the exhaust to escape with minimal restriction. Since dual exhaust was so popular they came up with H pipes to take advantage of the scavenging. They quickly realized that an X flowed better than an H and the X pipe was born. So, X & Y are pretty much the same. H is good for your pickup. Incidentally, a 3" single exhaust was one of the tricks cop cars used to use catch up to you from a dead stop when you were a teenanger doing 110 on the freeway.

My C6 ZO6(2012 3ZR)I ran the Same Vararam CAI for the LS7 and left the factory exhaust with the dumps that can open and it also sounds pretty wicked. All a matter of preference. Couple comments talking about a single exhaust being more than enough for 500 hp or so... show me the money. I'm nearly five decades deep into the car hobby and I've never seen an engine get good power from a single exhaust. Engineers put dual exhaust on performance cars, super cars, and all-out race cars for a reason.
@slick408 Жыл бұрын
Definitely get better gains with a single pipe of equal volume, it has better scavenging and less surface area resulting in faster smoother flow. Drag cars run singles. Sounds more "euro" and smooth than an X. If you think about it an X pipe at its center has less volume than the 2 pipes combined. It's a restriction that helps the pulse jump to the other bank but with a Y pipe you don't have that restriction and better mixing. Flowmaster scavenger Y is the best design I have seen.

I've got a 2012 BMW 550i xDrive w/ a 4.4L Twin-Turbo V8. It makes good power but sounds like a little girls electric moped... 🤣 I'm looking to replace the resonator with either an X-Pipe or straight pipes back to the stock valved mufflers, hoping that'll make it sound "meaner". I understand the X-Pipe would give it a less raspy, higher exhaust note than straight pipe back to the stock mufflers... Would it hurt power much to just go with straight pipes, or H-Pipe replacing the resonator to get that DEEP RASPY sound, or do I need to go with an X-Pipe to keep from losing power on a small, Twin-Turbo V8?

Straight pipe is no cats, no mufflers no resonator doesn’t matter the setup. Whether true dual, single or y pipe. Straight pipe is straight pipe
@Drunken_Hamster5 жыл бұрын
Of course, nobody tested Y-pipes. Because most Y-pipes are factory units for a v-engine going single exit, but they're small and restrictive, so people think they're bad for performance. Well, if you properly sized a y-pipe (two 2.5 into a single 3.5 is a good example) it would be capable of flowing properly for about a 500hp engine. And then, on the tail end, if you wanted dual exit, you could split that back into two 2.5 pipes and run whatever tips.

What would you think i should do to my mercedes s350? I want it to sound like a lion that roaring sound. I don't like loud gunshots. What exhaust mod should i do?
@Drunken_Hamster Жыл бұрын
@@andreaskleopa Equal length headers (short or long, doesn't matter) using 2.5 inch collectors, with high flow cats, put those into a 3.5 inch Y-pipe all the way back to the axle, then split it back to two 2.5 inch pipes if you care about having an exhaust that looks like duals or just leave it as a single if you're okay with that. This will give an exotic and race-like sound. Alternatively, if you want a deeper sound, don't run the headers into a Y-pipe, instead do dual 2.5 inch all the way back with a "narrow" H pipe. Narrow means the actual H is short and the dual pipes are close together, not that the H section is a smaller diameter. You want that H to also be 2.5 inch. Other than that, run the rest the same. Straight-throughs are moderately loud, and turbo-style mufflers are moderately quiet but more audible than stock. Round mufflers/"Glasspacks"/Race bullets are extra loud, but still take a bit of bite out compared to a legit straight pipe which is the loudest. Either way, if you're using aftermarket headers AND high flow cats, even turbo-style mufflers on the end will be noticably louder than stock, but still fine for a daily/the GF shouldn't complain. If you want active mufflers, use a Varex X-force or google search for something else. Varex is as quiet as stock when closed and almost as loud as race bullets when open. I recommend 409 or 304 stainless, but either way, you'll have to take it to a specialized shop with a TIG welder for them to be able to weld it, otherwise they'll F you over like they did my brother and put a bunch of cheap, shitty, aluminized tubing in there instead. Which will rust out within 3-5 years depending on your climate and whether your area salts the roads for winter or not. (and whether you drive the car when the road is salted, of course) The gunshots (or lack thereof) come from your engine computer being custom tuned. The stock tune shouldn't do it except a little bit on deceleration. Good luck making your car sound cool.
