Jeff, My understanding is that the inertial separator is used to split particles from the airflow in the intake section of the engine. The standard procedure (on the Cessna 208 at least) is to engage the IS on takeoff, landing, and during icing conditions, but disable it when not in icing conditions and above 500 feet or so.

"Inertial separators" are your engine anti-ice systems - in simple terms, they prevent solid things (e.g. chunks of ice, or ground FOD) from being sucked into the engine. In general, you'd open them before engine start and keep them on for all ground ops and even for takeoff on FOD-contaminated runways. After takeoff, close unless you get into icing conditions. On landing, open either before landing (expected FOD runway contamination) or after landing and keep open until engine shutdown. Inertial separators are typically associated with an engine performance drop, as it opens a bypass duct that draws air away from your engine intakes in order to exhaust any FOD before it enters the engine, hence why you only keep them open on the ground and in the air only when you need it. On takeoff & landing, really think about using them twice, as the associated performance drop (easily 10%) can make a big difference in engine-out emergencies.

on the pt6 the inertial separators are mainly used for icing conditions but anytime something may be ingested into the engine maybe contaminated Runway they might also be used

Jeff - love your vids, and great to see your presence in many of the recent XP streams. Just a quick comment on the toe brakes releasing the parking brake - I personally consider this a bug rather than a feature that is unfortunately present in all 3 popular sims (XP, FSX, and P3D), and if I'm not mistaken it is present on all aircraft. I have yet to find a way to completely disable it. In real-world aircraft, especially small GA planes, when you're doing your run-up, you set the parking brake, and additionally hold the toe brakes just in case the parking brake fails. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way to disable this in any of the sims. I've learned to live with it in-sim, but it would be a 'nice-to-have' to have the option to disable it so we could even more closely follow real-world procedures. Great vid though, thanks for the detailed look at this great plane!

Hey Jeff, I am just curious about your control setup. I recently purchased X plane 10 and its a little weird to get used to the views and moving them around. I want to know what basic control setup you use. Maybe the hat switch on a joystick?

What I do for taxi in the grand caravan is set the throttle to beta range and the fuel lever between 75% and 100% depending on the speed I want. For starting or holding position I set the fuel lever to idle(50%) that way I don't need to set any brakes because the airplane doesn't start rolling BTW I'm thinking on getting this one, is that GPS/FMC functional?

Did you started up engines without turn on Fuel Pumps at center panel? I bought it 1 day ago and maybe there is an update for EMB 110. Now we NEED to turn on Fuel Pumps... I didnt see any chance but this one made EMB 110 much more realistic.. i've got little problem.. when i started any plane my windshield has always rain drops even a sunny day and just disapear when plane starts moving faster...u know why?? this is bothering me... btw, nice vids..
