Thanks for this comprehensive review Osama. I love seeing the X-Plane add-on developers now achieving the highest levels of simulation. With the big name brands also making their way steadily over to XP, we have the best of both worlds now, and it's only going to get better from here. This aircraft looks absolutely stellar, and is likely the best King Air currently available for any platform. I personally love to see fully automated checklists like this, as it's hard to stay current with more than a handful of complex aircraft in your fleet.

The wire for refueling is a ground to prevent static electricity arc and potential fire.

*cough cough* supposed to attach it before refueling *cough cough* but I don't blame him for not knowing. It's one of those obscure pieces of knowledge you'd only get from flying real GA aircraft.

No potential fires.. A static charge build-up can break the avionics at even a very low voltage, and you wouldn't even know it was happening until strange failures with the avionics occur.
@dylconnaway9976
@dylconnaway9976 5 жыл бұрын
Hugo, it’s a bonding wire that neutralizes the charge (potential) between the truck and aircraft to prevent any sparks (from the friction of fueling as well as from a preexisting differential) that could ignite the fumes in the tank. Avionics are isolated from the skin of the aircraft due to the charges that build up during ordinary use, so this is not the concern. Edit: it’s known as “bonding” since you aren’t technically grounding the aircraft.
@ZicajosProductions
@ZicajosProductions 5 жыл бұрын
Dyl Connaway That’s also what I learned. The grounding wire is to prevent fire from fumes and fuel, not an electrical short for avionics.

As always, a superb video Q8! How do you do it so quickly? Your contributions to our community is second to none and your analysis of the software is always objective and detailed. Thank you for doing this first impressions video. I was already ready to pay out for this great payware aircraft and it is obvious the developers at Airfoillabs deserve every penny for producing such a quality product! On x-plane.org there are already 887 people that like this software! Has this ever happened in the history of payware aircraft so quickly? Airfoillabs are truly pioneers in providing quality payware aircraft for x-plane and they keep raising the bar. Good for them! Thanks again Q8!

This is set up very similar to our military flight simulators. I have been through the C130H and C130J flight simulators. I’m an aircraft mechanic. I went to learn how to do maintenance engine run ups. They allow you to do the walk around and simulate all systems so you can train on failures. Very helpful if you want to learn the aircraft.

For the benefit of anyone trying to start the aircraft by following Q8 Pilot's own quick start procedure shown in this video, the starter generators only start generating when you switch the start switches down after engine start (not shown in video). If you miss this step, the hydraulic system will not get enough power and so you may have issues with the flaps, and more importantly, extending the landing gear. There is also, on the right of the captain's chair, an emergency manual landing gear extension lever you can get the gear down with before you work this starter/generator switch thing out. :)

That wire is a static discharge reel, these reels are designed to provide safe and reliable grounding of containers, equipment and vehicles. They provide grounding / bonding to prevent build up of static electricity. When filling the fuel tanks with fuel this can cause a static charge to build up between the aircraft en the fuel truck / pump. This charge build-up is the same principle as walking on a carpet in wintertime and getting a shock from the doorknob when opening a door. Electrical testing has shown that when people 'feel' this shock the voltage is at least 3500 V (3,5 kV). The Amperage is very low so no real power is transferred and no harm is done, it can be uncomfortable though. Electronics how ever, or in this case aircraft avionics can be 'killed' by voltages much lower than this and you wouldn't even know that it was happening until strange unexplained failures occur.

Great video. I've just bought X-Plane, so I now have a vested interest in such add-ons. Not sure that the pilot and copilot figures are up to the same standard as the model, but that's a small issue. As has been said, the plug-in cable is to earth the aircraft and prevent a spark jumping across the fuel-tank opening to the nozzle, but is supposed to be connected first! Have a look next time you see an airliner being refuelled ;O) What an aircraft, though - absolutely beautiful. Definitely on my list.

Thanks for the link, Paul, this does look very good indeed and goes on the wishlist for this new X-Plane convert. For me, the biggest missed opportunity appears to be the lack of wear & tear, or uniqueness/randomness in systems. Seeing those torque indicator values perfectly synchronised between both engines screams 'mathematical simulation' and not 'real aircraft'. I have been spoilt by other developers; it's hard to go back to sterile aircraft, no matter how many other amazing features are added!

Interesting that you comment on lack of failures. I would be more than happy to save a few bucks on addons if it means devs can concentrate on everything else like rain effects. If I were to guess, I’d say maybe 1 in 20 pilots have tried failures, and even less practice for them regularly. I’m a real world pilot, and I can only remember one time 5 years ago I tried it in a PMDG product (not counting default FS scenarios). That’s a lot of effort put into designing a system few use. IRL, failure practice is a different story.

on p3dv4 you have the flight 1 king air, which is pretty much study level. the big difference is that the avionics are full G 1000, instead of steam gauges and an fms. I much prefer that setup, because it taps into the same Garmin logic I use in my RW flying. The modeling of engine behavior is especially good on the flight 1 king air. you really have to stay on top of throttle and prop settings to get top performance without over-temping or over-torquing.

@BelowMinimums 5 жыл бұрын
If this airplane was modeled correctly you would have destroyed both engines during that start up. Watch the ITT at (top left circular engine gauge) at 15:55 and see that it goes 100 degrees over max. You should wait until turbine RPM is above 13% MINIMUM before introducing fuel. The longer you wait the cooler the start. The reason is because the faster the turbine speed (rpm) is before introducing fuel the more air is flowing through the combustion chamber and that air flow keeps the temps down.
@s4aviator804
@s4aviator804 5 жыл бұрын
Ever heard the expression,a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing? He didn't exceed the start limit on the engine start at 15:55. Many turbine engines have a separate ITT or EGT limitation for starting the engine, which is higher than the limit during flight. This is the case on a King Air 350. The start limitation is 1000 degrees C, and its marked on the ITT gauge by a second red line labeled START. If you look at the instrument you'll see it. And for what it's worth, he didn't go past 820 by 100 degrees like you stated, it was actually 20 degrees. The line denotations on the instrument are in increments of 20, not 100. Honestly, anything over 10% on a PT6 is fine to introduce fuel. A subsequent hot start depends more on battery voltage than it does 10% vs 13%. Cheers.

With any amount of wind, they will not match. I'm flying it right now and they're reading different values.

Engine modelling, specifically ITT, seems way too low during takeoff etc. It simply doesn't seem to vary much. I checked out a video of a real world King Air 350 and it backs up this observation. Plus I've got RW time in the 90 & 200 in four different dash numbers of the Pt6 and to me during takeoff and cruise ITT should be higher and vary more with variations of power. Otherwise it is a spectacular aircraft that Aerofoil has built.

Did they model the breakers too like the Majestic-Q400 and MaddogX? How the failures are modeled?

No, and honestly I don't think it is needed.

The one thing I'll say is that Airfoillabs doesn't seem present on the .org support forum. I'm interested in buying the airplane and I see lots of questions and some issues but the only answers seem to be coming from other users. The question is, after all this work, are they just going to leave it there and not be involved?

After initial release, they will probably focus on crashes and major issues. I am sure they are already working to fix some of the issues users encounter. Give them the benefit of doubt =)

@coast Flyer. Q8 Pilot says give the developers the benefit of doubt. AirfoilLabs will only hang around for a short while to sell the product and fix some early bugs but then disappear, just like they did with their Cessna 172. AirfoilLabs do not respond to anybody on the xplane forums and they certainly never reply to any emails you send them. They've never responded to me. I've posted a comment here warning others about their so-called customer support which is non-existent and there is a thread about them on the xplane forums.

It seems you can overtorque then engines pretty heavily without consequences and also you hotstarted it without issue, this should be addressed on a « study level » aircraft.
