Finally flying the Zibo recently, so this is very instructive indeed--thanks for posting this lesson. I have no issues doing ILS now or RNAVs in the smaller craft, my main is the Eclipse 550, but the 737 was a bit daunting, now I have a handle on it.

@andredarin89665 жыл бұрын
@@Hi-mt3lp A bit of sarcasm? Blaine appears to want to engage with X-plane as more than a game. If that's the case shouldn't he be advised on how to do procedures as they would be performed in the real world. Furthermore, the idea of a simulator is to give the pilot an immersive experience that will, to a surprising extent, give the pilot in the simulator a visceral feeling of real-world flying, even if it's not a class D full-motion simulator. While X-plane is a game to many user, for as many it may be an introduction to procedures they will encounter in their pursuit of an airline career.

Captain Evillian yeah fair point but it’s not a big deal if you don’t disengage the a/p before or at a certain altitude
@andredarin89665 жыл бұрын
@@Hi-mt3lp It depends on why you are using X-plane. If you're just "playing", then you make a fair point. On the other hand, if a user's goal is a career with the airlines, the sooner he or she begins to think like a pilot and start building essential habits (i.e., scrupulously following checklists, not busting minimums) the better. I fly 737 900-ER's for a major U.S. airline and use X-plane and the Zibo mod "instructing" a neighbor's kid who wants to fly for the airlines. He's 17, working towards a private and his CFI is astonished at the degree of his flight discipline, ability to work with ATC, and situational awareness--all because we have agreed to go by the book. Insofar as your assertion goes that it's "not a big deal if you don’t disengage the a/p before or at a certain altitude", that is conditionally true. However, there are exceptions. The Electronic Code of Federal Regulations, 14 CFR § 135.93, (Minimum altitudes for use of autopilot) that "An altitude no lower than 50 feet higher than the altitude loss specified in the AFM, when the following conditions are met, for example: the autopilot is coupled and receiving both lateral...and vertical path reference and a go-around or missed approach below the minimum engagement altitude specified for takeoff and initial climb." So, again, if you just want to play a game, you're right but if you have aspirations of flying for the airlines, then screw it: if you get a cabin pressure warning light, that's the passengers' problems not yours.

Thank you Blaine, I'll be giving that a go later today, I'll let you know how it works out. Just two questions about your comment that in the Zibo mod we should advance the throttles then back to idle to allow the reversers to be available on the ground. - is that to disengage the auto-throttle? - is that a specific Zibo mod requirement or are you aware if it also applies to other X plane 737s as well? Once again I appreciate you taking the time to step through this topic. Cheers! Mike 😊
@Blaine100246 жыл бұрын
Michael Hancock you're right on the mark, it's to turn off the auto-throttle. Otherwise when you touch down you won't be able to activate thrust reverse.

The thrust reverse is the lever located on the top of the throttle column. However I have mine bound to a button on a programmable keyboard. In order to activate it you're thrust has to be at idle however.

papi lights are red to right of white not red "over" white - disengage autothrottle place throttle to idle prior to landing - when discussing runway alignment it is best to discuss lateral (localizer) as well as vertical (glide slope) and note that localizer is engaged BEFORE glide slope - no discussion here of localizer.

This video is good to show people how to do an ILS approach, but in terms of the landing itself, it is quite inaccurate. If you are doing an autoland, you don’t disconnect the autopilot just before you touch down in order to flare. It will flare itself. Make sure you have both autopilots engaged if you’re doing an autoland though. If you are doing a manual landing, the autopilot must be disconnected before the CAT1 decision altitude, at which point you have to have the runway in sight.
@paddyredmond30395 жыл бұрын
He did say (O:43) that this was NOT autoland.
@thiscorrosion9005 жыл бұрын
That's only for a CAT III ILS landing procedure, not a standard ILS. For a CAT III you apparently arm the CMD B A/P after the APR engages etc., and then set it and leave it. You don't touch anything then, until the plane lands itself and touches down, then it's the usual, reverse, autobrakes, decel, etc.

Do you actually need VNAV for this procedure? Also: I have read, that you need to set your COURSE to the runway heading (which you did), but you did not mention it specifically. So is this a must?
@thiscorrosion9005 жыл бұрын
What I've been taught is that, once you engage the APPR, the ILS landing system takes over from VNAV for the final descent and landing, so once that happens, and it engages, VNAV is no longer active, as such. But yes it's common practice to set both COURSE knobs to runway heading and the Heading knob as well, just ahead of final. But again, the ILS system once LOC is engaged, should centerline your airplane, and once The GS comes in, the ILS is essentially ensuring that whatever you do set on the COURSE etc.., the ILS still keeps the plane locked on final approach and landing course. It's a good idea to set all the Course/Heading to synch though, because, if you have to execute a missed approach and go-around, or emergency landing later, the plane should be set for runway heading anyway, so you can go straight out, climb, and TOGA yourself to whatever is prescribed for that runway and go missed procedure.

I see what you mean, and I'm not sure. It could be a glitch because this is from a Zibo version which is quite old. There have been many instances where the lights do not show on the MCP. However, on the PFD it states single-channel which means the ILS is still captured.
@samisthebest61384 жыл бұрын
@@Blaine10024 I'm pretty sure when the glide slope is fully captured the approach might extinguished cause it's the tech on the ground guiding the plane down to the runway when ever the app button has a light it just means it's armed I don't think it's a glitch
