Hello everyone in this Unreal engine 4 material tutorial I will show you how to make an X-ray or an Inspector effect. I actually don't know what to call this effect. In this effect you point at a mesh and the texture in it changes. Just like a spot like effect. Where the parts the light touch changes color.You can also make the mesh see through with this effect.

Could you please make a tutorial on gradually toggling translusency on an object? Like activating a camouflage. I can't figure out how to do smoothly swap materials :(

Dude i hope you better work for a Company.. your tutorials are so helpful and there arent many people like you who do this. Could i request something? A effect for swords when swinging it and little sparks when swords collide or a sword collides with the environment when hitting. Thank you so much for the tutorial. While I dig this channel, there are dozens of others (and many including Epic, covering the exact same topics and offering project files for non-patrons). Just look around!

I mean, yeah, that's totally true, but if theres 10 different ways to do the same thing, you should learn those 10 different ways so you can adapt to what will work for you. And for project files, who cares? This is a tutorial meant for you to learn to make the effect yourself, not just copy-paste it into your own project. Also, really didn't mean for this to feel as insensitive or ranty as it might be.

Nope- not ranty or insensitive at all! I prefer a good dialogue, with good points. And I agree. It's always a good thing to have several sources for anything, including (heck, especially) knowledge!

@@Derjyn Hey, Im from the year 2022. I used to map in UE3, and Im looking for a site with content that I can copy and paste. (I learn from example - so I need to quickly get up to date with how UE4 things are formed.) And some things I dont want to learn because thats not my skill and other people do it better - Id rather focus my creative time on what Im good at. Can you direct me to some content sites or a good chan that gives links to files? I searched the UE marketplace... very baron for free stuff, and I need other things to start my demo. In the olden days of UE3, everything was easy to copy/paste, mod, and people shared freely. Now Epic ruined that by tricking people to sell their stuff (work for Epic), but Epic gets money - while the devs dont make the stuff (that would have been made) and give it to us free. I think you understand what I mean. Ty.

How did you achieve the wireframe effect ? I know there is a wireframe toggle in material options but how did you set it's color and masked it ? Btw I love your tutorials and wait for them :)

Can you do weapon picking up? Like, when you have one pistol and you pickup second pistol then you drop the first pistol

How would you do a custom mask shape? I want to use a mask in a star shape and I have the proper png but don't know where to plug it in your material.

this reminds me of an idea! occlusion culling!!! like bf3 bf4 bf1 specially horizon zero dawn! would you please make a tutorial about it? i can explain it in theory, you can use many ray casts in player's FOV to disable or enable whatever is in the map, Am i right?

Can you use a custom mask shape or even scene depth mask instead of sphere mask?Would that even work

You can do that with a box mask. I don't know about scene depth though.

Thanks! This is a really good video. How can I get a similar effect working for multiple local players simultaneously? Let's say I have 4 players pointing together at a mesh how do I get the X -Ray effect to work in that case ?

You just need to have 4 different sphere masks and for the B of each of the sphere mask.You can create 4 different collection parameters and set them in your players blueprint.

Hi, please make a tutorial for LODs triggered by BP i´m having a hard time, bassicaly i created a creature that morphs, like a wolfman for example, but... this character needs LOD, my problem is that there is no LOD morph target option, this mean i can only use morph targets for main mesh, even if i create my second mesh (LOD) and add new similar morphs, if i import this new mesh, after i get far... morphs wont be applied, meaning that if my human character becomes a wolf... when i move far, it will turn to human again, because LOD version don´t know when to apply the morph and it doesn´t sync with base mesh morph target... also in Maya i canot modify the main mesh topology, i might do it by a blendshape, but how to trigger a blendshape (morph target) as an LOD when looking from far? maybe there is a way to apply LOD´s by BP instead from Unreal LOD system, but how to do LOD by BP? please make a tutorial.

Can you change the model after the man morph into the wolf and back again.Just create a separate wolf model and change it to this as soon as the man morphs into the wolf. This might help.

WOW excelent Idea, but i´m kind of an amateur, how you make this automatic switch depending on screen size? also my second problem will be that if this morph target is updated by player for example: make bigger muscles, then how can i sync character 1 morphs with character 2, cause i´m planing a character that player will be able to morph by sliders before start playing, like more muscular, smaller, taller, then both characters should be morphed at same time by user, please make the BP node config and upload a picture link to follow the idea, but i guess this will be a great idea for a tutorial! not any tutorial for this at youtube, thanks a lot!

You don't have to depend on screen size, just switch the model and the man has done the transformation animations.Also you can store the size of the muscles in a variable and use that to change the muscle size of the wolf.

I dont get it, i need to switch characters depending on screen size because it will be like my LOD, when camera reaches a far location, character 2 will replace character 1, even if it´s running it will have to make this switch without any notice or glitch in the animation, i think i will have to do this by uploading the same mesh twice in the same character BP and by using visibility, but what it certainly will have to to its an automatic switch exactly as LOD does, that´s what i don´t know how to do, i think variables will work.
