The lateral sinus view is one that has been 'lifted' from an orthodontic projection. It is a small generator so the exposure is often 10 times as long as with a normal X-ray machine, hence the immobilisation/measurement devices.. If the top of the cervical spine is shown in the Waters projection, it is a failed examination because of the needless dose to the thyroid. Even showing the top of the head and the zygomatic arches is not required and is needless extra dose
