Awesome review. As an X-T20 owner (and new youtuber), I can tell you face detection DOES work in 1080p. No-can-do on 4k (which I noticed you're recording in). So, for vlogging my beautiful face....1080p it has to be. Thanks!
@DmitryBrodsky0077 жыл бұрын
yep, on XT20 fd and PDAF works in 1080p but not in 4K. on XT2 FD and PDAF now supposedly does work in 4K after 2.0 firmware.
@MaksimYuryev7 жыл бұрын
Omar Gonzalez Photography The video af is quite good for contrast only. Definitely better than the Gh5.
@ogonzilla7 жыл бұрын
That's awesome..not sure if you got what I was saying...Just saying the FACE DETECTION DOES ACTUALLY WORK...if you switch to 1080p. The FD is not an option in 4k. Hopefully with a future firmware we XT20 users will get that as an option. cheers.
@EDHBlvd7 жыл бұрын
Max Yuryev who says this uses Contrast only? The X-T20 uses phase detection pixels. Are you sure in video the phase detect is not working? I've never heard this before.
@DmitryBrodsky0077 жыл бұрын
yes, it is a known fact. only Contrast AF and NO FD onXT20 in 4K. Try it in 4K and you will see. The moment you switch to 1080p, PDAF starts working, and you also able to select FD. PDAF is used for Photography. CDAF only for 4K Video

I have been using Nikon DSLRs for years. I transitioned to the x-t2 very recently. I too have had the experience of just wanting to go out and shoot. I think these Fujis are going to decimate Canon and Nikon for some time to come. So many people are transitioning. The x trans sensor is truly amazing too. I won't be going back.
@sebcastilho7 жыл бұрын
@Max Yuryev at 8mins you mention you used +2 shadows and that you shouldn've used +4. In fact, the positive settings creates more contrast by darkening the shadows. What you really want is the -2 setting.

1. on the x-t10 i am able to get the front wheel for ISO. I dont know why fuji let that out on this 2. using a l grip for like $15 with arca swiss compability get you a tripod mount with access to battery door 3. new firmware on x-t2 let you change ISO while recording still not sure if upgrading from x-t10 or wait :s but great review.. at the moment you are one of the best camera reviewers.. even as a only photographic point your reviews are often very helpful

hoping XT20 get a firmware upgrade where they allow the front dial ISO assignment with a click. XT2 did it with a new firmware. For now I assigned ISO on the rear dial with a click.

X70 and X-A3 also offer a touch screen and the X70 was the first camera from Fujifilm with a touchscreen (even more limited as you cannot focus with touch only it just sets the focus point [needs shutter half press or custom AF button press to actually focus]). As for ISO control in video mode that has been added via firmware update at least on X-T2 and XPro2. (I guess the X-T20s firmware update is on the way for this as x-t2 and xpro2 firmware include this feature now and the x-t20s firmware beta has this also) So one important thing for this camera. Fujifilm is known to improve their cameras a lot via firmware updates and even include new features and functions. (at least for the top level X-Ts and X-Pros)

overall, I would agree, you get most of the X-T2 in the X-T20.. unless you're pushing for the better AF, 4K video, extended battery life with a battery grip, you're not going to really miss anything from the X-T2 that isn't in the X-T20. I felt strongly that the X-T20 could be a great alternative to my plans to own an X-T2 to pair with my X-Pro2. It's less expensive and as you basically described 90% of the X-T2. BUT, for me, there are 2 factors which are kind of picky that matter to me that make me want to stay with the more expensive X-T2. 1) The 3-way tilt screen. I won't go into details, but I find it extremely useful and works in just enough ways as I need a tilting rear screen to. 2) I actually prefer the chunkier design and body of the X-T2. This is totally subjective, but I find the X-T20 a little skimpy on the build.. like the "shoulders" are too narrow and the faux-pentaprism structure on top is a little small for my taste and not as bold as the X-T2. I also like the meatier dials on the X-T2. Again, totally subjective, but it is a design consideration and, for me, I feel the design aesthetics of the Fuji cameras are a relatively large factor in why I like them over other mirrorless cameras. Anyways, great insight and comparisons in this video. Thanks.

Your analysis of the X-T20 vs. the X-T2 and others is very helpful. Especially that the X-T20 has no FLog, but does NOT have cropping when making 4K videos. Comparing other specs, I did notice that the X-T20 produces Full HD video only at 36Mbps, whereas the X-T2 does FHD video at a much higher 100Mbps. And although both cameras can shoot 4K at 100Mbps, the X-T20 can only make 10-min clips, while the X-T2 can produce video up to 30 min., with its optional battery/grip. Thanks Max. Keep up the good work.

X-T1 user here. The deal breaker for me is no battery grip option on the X-T20. As fast as these cameras chew through batteries, a battery grip is a must for me. It can make the difference between getting the shot, or fumbling around trying to change out the battery and missing something important.

I know it's kinda late, and not sure if you even still use Fuji xt20 or xt2 anymore. But I just bought an Xt20 as well and found out to change the contrast (make it less contrasty), you actually have to set the shadow to (-2) so that you can get brighter shadow. @christiansantiagophotography7 жыл бұрын
Great review as always, Max. I will disagree though with one thing: IBIS can't compensate for poor shooting technique, so I don't really miss it much on my XT-2s. If you know how to properly hold and brace the camera, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. And overall shooting handheld, at least imo, is not the most ideal situation anyway. I fear that in the end IBIS is just going to enable lazy, sloppy filmmaking in the same way that the super high ISO capabilities of the Sony cameras enable people to ignore proper lighting. It's my humble opinion that if you're competent enough in your shooting technique, the lack of IBIS should not deter you from the incredible image quality and performance of these cameras for video. Certainly, the picture quality and colors alone are miles ahead of Sony.

Nice with setting the rear dial to ISO. I wish I could do that on my X-E1. I def prefer using that location as an ISO knob instead of one on top like the XT2. Noise levels for the XT20 "similar" to the XT2? Shouldn't both cameras have identical image quality due to the fact they both share the same sensor and processor?
@MaksimYuryev7 жыл бұрын
Yes they should and maybe they do but I didn't have an X-T2 to test side by side and at times two cameras with same sensor/processor the image/noise can be slightly different because of different processing algorithms so it safer to say similar or close than 100% the same.

It's very normal you get that weird behavior when you use lens image stabilization on a tripod. It's just the reflection of the stabilitazion on an already stable base. Infacts, some cameras, as of expensive lenses like the Canon 70-200 IS, have sensors which compensate this, so it's surely not a camera issue.

When deciding between the A6300 and the Xt20 for both video and stills, which would you choose? The budget is around 1500, so i could get either a brand new XT20 with the 18-55, some extra batteries and maybe the handgrip, or a used a6300 for around 850, with either a 18-105 f4 gmaster lense, or the sigma 19mm f2,8 + 30mm 2,8. Or maybe even with the sigma 30mm 1.4. Some extra information regarding my dilemma. I think both of them handle equally well to me, maybe with a slight edge to the fuji (not enough to justify the purchase solely based on that fact). I am a little bit worried that the 4k quality of the xt20 is a lot worse than the 4k of the sony (line skipping vs oversampling), however i am also concerned about sonys worse lense selection (native), and fujis worse lense selection for adapted lenses. So, all in all, i am completely unsure which direction to take, since i also intend to stick with the system i am choosing for a certain time. What do you guys think? And thanks in advance :)

@Ex4ltation7 жыл бұрын
Max Yuryev Thanks for the quick answer :) What is your reasoning for prefering the sony over the fuji for professional work? Is it due to the better 4k and larger lense selection (metabones adapter), or due to something completely different, like the fuji lacking certain aspects needed for professional work?
@MaksimYuryev7 жыл бұрын
Felix_R Yes that and the IBIS + internal LOG and really good pre amps (no meet to record external audio for many jobs). Also 120fps 1080 and the clear image zoom (sensor crop) is really nice!

Another great video thanks Max! I have a question regarding to this offer Sony Europe drops the price of the A7rII and A7sII (up to 600 Euro cheaper!)"" What do you think ? should we go for it or just wait the next cameras ?
Hi Max! You said it only uses contrast based af in video, is it the same with the xt2? Between the xt2 or xt20 and olympus em1mkii for 70% photos and 30% video (hobbyist/casual/enthusiast) which one would you choose? Thanks a lot in advance!

If you can afford the x-t2 and don’t mind the larger size compared to x-t20 definitely go for xt2. It uses phase detection and is a much better video camera than em1 and also better photo camera in almost every way.

Max Yuryev Would you recommend this for astrophotography using the 18-55 kit lens? Im still comparing this camera compared to the D7200 18-140mm kit.

The Samyang/Rokinon 12mm f/2 is a great option for astrophotography on Fuji. Manual aperture & focus only, but the milky way doesn't move very fast.

MrMcjamison Thank you for the suggestion, I bought the Fuji X-T20 instead (trying mirrorless) and will save up for that kinda lens Sir. 🤙🏼
