Correction: The screen resolution is the same - an error on Fuji's website has been corrected, thanks to Wonjin Seol. Addition: The X-T2 includes the EF-X8 external flash IN CH burst, the X-T20 supports face detection, the X-T2 does not (thanks Dmitry Brodsky) The X-T20 supports SD UHS I, the X-T2 supports UHS II.. The X-T20 EVF refresh is 56 fps, X-T2 100fps. The X-T20 has no audio level display while recording video, the X-T2 does. The X-T20 may overheat while recording video within the first 30 minutes. The X-T2 will run without overheating for over an hour.

A much appreciated comparison. Thank you for the video, Maarten. I am choosing between these two right now. My main consideration is the physical size and how it fits in the hand. Basically it comes down to price and needs. You want the smaller brother that can perform extremely well...or you want the bigger brother that performs extremely well but has that extra boost to add a bit more performance. Thanks Maarten as always. I probably would use the XT20 or X100F solely for b/w shooting. I am happy with my XT2 and 18-135mm lens. After 6 years using compact cameras I made the leap and now I shoot manual constantly and the learning process of the XT2 keeps amazing me. The XT2 will outperform most cameras.

Always my pleasure - thank you for your kind words. Shooting in b/w using Acros mode is one of my highlights with Fuji models - while I rarely think about b/w with other brands. And I completely agree - I've been shooting with the X-T2 since June, and am really loving it, particularly for video.

Unlike the X-T2 which crops the sensor by 1.17x, the X-T20 doesn’t crop while recording 4K. This means that the new camera doesn’t perform full pixel readout but rather applies line skipping. As such the X-T20 should have less sharpness and more aliasing in comparison to the flagship camera.
@MaartenHeilbron7 жыл бұрын
An interesting detail, thanks for adding this.
@tubularsensation7 жыл бұрын
Vantage1987 - I've read the 1.17 crop and full sensor readout in 4k for the X-T2, but if I may ask, where are you getting your information on the X-T20 not having a full pixel readout? I'm not doubting you, but we're talking about a camera that is still in beta version.

So at 9:02 this mentioned Image Stabilisation. I assume this is referring to the kit lens, as the camera doesn't have IS fro what I gather? I have a selection of primes - which don't have IS either. I'm curious of this menu goes away when you remove the kit lens.
@MaartenHeilbron7 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's correct. Only some Fuji lenses have OiS, and they have a switch on the lens to turn it on/off. This is additional control provided thought the menu.Yes, this setting is not available when a non-OIS lens is attached.

Not that difficult if you are pro or enthusiast the weather sealing, bigger viewfinder, ISO-setting with lockable dials on top, dual memory card slots, optional batterigrip will probarbly brake the deal. Adjusting for shutterspeed, ISO and exporsure compensation with dials on top with good all other feeling is great together with aperture on the lens is as Old School it gets in good sens of meaning with X-T2. But if you are not burning passionate or don't think you will become later on the X-T20 will give really a lot more than the big brand entry level DSLR cameras especially if you consider the super line of optimized Fujinon XF lenses and upgrade the kit-zoomlens to a prime std 35 f/2 to start with. Learn to control exporsure and depth of field and you soon you will be hooked.

Another fabulous review Maarten! Thank you! I had the X-T1 and have the X-T10. I enjoy the carry weight of the X-T10. I also like the built-in popup flash for those times where fill flash is needed. The X-T2, would seem better if you plan to have some of the larger lenses. I will get either the X-T20 or X-T2. Undecided, but leaning to the X-T20 for the carry weight and the touch screen seems like a nice thought.

I will add that the choice between them is one of the toughest out there if you can spring for the X T2. Like.... Should I get the X T20 with kit lens + 55 to 200 + 56 f1.2? Should I rather go for the X T2 + grip + kit lens + 55 to 200 and just hold off on the 56 f1.2? I could slap a Samyang/Rokinon 85mm f1.4 for pretty cheap if I can't do with out crazy bokeh and that would let me get the X T2 for just 200 dollars more.... ah.... It seems like it'll just depend on which one isn't back ordered at the time I can buy one. xD
@MaartenHeilbron7 жыл бұрын
Once you start throwing all those variables into the air, it's a very tough decision, particularly if you're mostly shooting stills. For video, I find the choice a little clearer, particularly with the battery grip, the XC-T2 is a more capable camera.
@NeverWolf7 жыл бұрын
I think that they're meant to be a pair. A and B. I think that if you have the money the smart thing to do is get the Fuji X T2. In my case, I can hold off on autofocus bokeh lenses as I'm not a portrait photographer, and I use such lenses for night life and indoors purposes mostly. The kit zoom + 55 to 200 cover the focal length twice. And what's more is I wouldn't even have to do without a fast prime. Rokinon 85mm f1.4 is 260 USD. I think the X T2 is gonna be a better long term investment for me.
@MaartenHeilbron7 жыл бұрын
I would agree with that assessment. Over the 7 months I've been shooting with it, I've found it to be very versatile and usable. Thanks again for your comments.

Hi Maarten, I enjoy your video comparison. The reason why I like the XT2 is the weather proofing. Living in Canada I want to be able to use it during winter too. But the price is still beyond my reach. I really wish I could afford it before I go to Hawaii in August 2017. I liked the XT20 because of the touch screen, unless I hear further convincing from your reviews that I should go for the XT20 will be appreciated. :)

Great points and still relevant today 3 years later as there's still much debate over which is 'Best'. For me the most important benefit of the X-T20 is it doesn't Crop in 4k. This relates to More Bang for Buck when we consider Lenses are the greatest cost consideration after camera body. I had the X-T2 and loved it. I now have the X-T20 and find myself missing the bigger size of the X-T2. Boy I thought the X-t2 was small after moving from DSLR, the X-T20 is Tiny and cramps my hands. If i had to nail down the benefits of the two I'd say the X-T20 for 'no crop in 4k' and the touch screen which is Great for Live recording if you need a quick focus change. All other things considered, the X-T2 simply for Size and the ability to add a grip.

@MaartenHeilbron7 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's more or less correct - didn't realize it at the time I did the review, but a viewer pointed that out. I will include that in my full review. The detail is the X-T2 crops (1.17) to match the sensor readout more exactly to the resolution/aspect ratio.

I wonder if the body of X-T2 is full metal (aluminum body) my X-T10 felt on the floor and split in Half, totally lost, exactly where the metal joins the plastic part of the body, It´s a very week camera and X-t20 looks the same. But the lens XF 18-55 that was attached to the camera when I dropped, looks like nothing happens, only with few scratches on the hood.

Interesting, I've dropped my X-T10 twice. The first time the original strap came loose and the second time it flew out of my bag with quite some force. No issues whatsoever, except that I bent the plastic around the screen. Often it really comes down to luck. I've been lucky so far.

There is another huge difference nobody talks about. On XT2 in CH mode Face Detection is unavailable. The explanation commonly given is that XT2 of course cannot have PDAF and Face Detect at the same time, if you want Face Detect, XT2 reverts back to Contrast AF. However, on my XT20, Face Detect is available with CH!!!!! I don't know if it means that Fuji finally figured out how to have PDAF and Face Detect at the same time, but the fact remains.
@MaartenHeilbron7 жыл бұрын
Thanks - good call. IN CH the face detect menu isn't available on the X-T2, on the X-T20, it is!
@DmitryBrodsky0077 жыл бұрын
Which begs the next question, does it mean that on Fuji XT20, in CH, the camera can track faces with full PDAF????? This needs to be investigated.

You can never practically have an aperture ring on a variable aperture lens. That just makes sense. Nice review. I am going to get an X-T20. Sometimes I just need something small for travel, and the D500 ad 750 are wonderful but big.

Hi Maarten, great comparison between the two Fuji cameras. I am looking to add a camera to my kit as a backup and also as a grab and go. Would appreciate your views on this. I have xt2 with 16 f1.4, 35 f2, 56 f1.2 and the 18-55 kit lens. I'm torn between Option 1 the x100f which would give me the added fixed 23 f2 fixed as another camera and lens. Option 2 the xt20 with the ability to use all my existing lenses. Or finally Option 3 stick with what I'm familiar with and splash the cash and get a second xt2 to complete the kit? I'm getting to the stage that every option has its own merits and it's so hard to decide. Just wondering if you could take time out to give your thoughts

Can anyone comment on the accuracy of the XT20 AF when you touch the LCD to focus and shoot simultaneously? Which camera is faster/more accurate to focus just using the LCD? I want to buy one of these cameras for street photography with the Fuji 23mm f2 WR lens. My preference is for the XT20 but if the AF touch to focus/shoot is not accurate I may opt for the more pro camera and use the joystick to select focus point and then press shutter. Any advice?
@MaartenHeilbron7 жыл бұрын
It's as accurate as a human finger can be using a 3 inch screen. For street (or any kind of photography) you'll find that using the touch screen is slow and not as responsive as pressing the shutter. Or do what the famous street photographers of the last millennium did - use a smaller aperture (F8-11) and preset a manual focus to a middle/close distance. For street you're always better off with a small unobtrusive camera, like the X-T20.

Hi Mr. Maarten Heilbron, I'm interest on the Digital Split Focus for these two camera. Because I not found the details in any pages talk about XT20. Can you explain or show me the difference? Thanks a lot. :)
@MaartenHeilbron7 жыл бұрын
The image appears in several bands and you move the focus ring on the lens until there is no longer a "split" in the image. You'll see this demonstrated in my X-T2 V2 review, which will be next week's post. My preference remains the expanded view mode, which Fuji calls "standard".

Very informative video. Which do you suggest for vlogging? Which is easier to ise for travel? Thank you.
@MaartenHeilbron6 жыл бұрын
The X-T20 is better for travel, as it's smaller. Neither is a great choice for vlogging as the screen doesn't swivel forward. Try the X-T100 (unless you need to log in 4K, at which point you'll need to look at other brands).

Hi Maarten, just watched a couple of your videos avbout the x-t20 ..most informative. Two questions I see a lot of posts saying the x-t20 is uncomfortable to use with glasses ? ( yet you seem to get on fine and yours are the pretty similar to mine ) Also my choice is the x-t20 vs the xt1 , any words of wisdom on that ?! many thanks Simon
@MaartenHeilbron6 жыл бұрын
I didn't (don't) find that - but I often remove my glasses, as that's more comfortable for me. If your prescription is large, you may not be able to see all the edges of the screen at a glance.

Hi Maarten, excellent comparison! I may have missed it, but you were running the frame rate and buffer size tests, what file type were you using, Fine JPEG, Raw, or both? If those numbers are shooting Raw, then that's fantastic! Thanks again for a great video.
@lim2001burger7 жыл бұрын
Never mind, I've just played back and heard you mention Fine JPEG on the video - would you know what the numbers would be for Raw shooting?
@MaartenHeilbron7 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the kind words. Yup, fine JPEGs. I did try RAW by accident, and it's clearly much less (didn't take notes). Most cameras are very disappointing on RAW burst.

Quick question and thanks again for a great video. Hello I recently tried a side by side comparison shoot in store with these cameras. It did not go exactly as I planned. The xt2 had way better depth of field than the 20, both using the 35mm @f2. Is this at all possible or would have have been my error? I was thinking maybe a different processor/software when making Jpegs? I assume my error. I purchaseda Sony a7rii for it'ssise and quality, but the glass makes it not as compact as I hoped.
@MaartenHeilbron6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I do appreciate your kind words. That seems like a defiance of the physics involved - the same lens on the same sensor should yield the same results (if the aperture is the same). And the bokeh should be the same in JPEG and RAW images - it's just the physics of the light falling on the sensor, it's not any processing. The size/weight advantage of mirrorless is diminished in full frame bodies with high quality lenses - that is an accurate observation.
@MrTezzuka6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your reply and clarification. I was hoping you would say that, otherwise I would still be one confused consumer. This investigation and new found love for fuji film bodies started weeks ago. I was away with a friend who uses a xt1 and me, an A7Rii. I tried to replicate shots using different lenses and aperatures of course as best as I could. I found that his few hundred dollar kit destroyed my few thousand dollar kit in terms of appealing looking photographs and fall off. Fuji photos taken were with the 35mm @f2 and mine were with the Sony Zeiss 35 f1.8. Trying to keep the same field of view the sensors were at different distances because of their difference in size but I was sure that my FF f1.8 would have a more appealing DOF but the fujifilm killed my A7Rii! ever since then I have assumed the the fujifilm body processes the image to be more attractive. I will do a comprehensive test without any alcohol consumption soon and send you a link to my findings. If the Fuji does perform miracles I will let you know. Thank you for your previous quick reply and constantly helping people with your hard work.

Hello Maaren, I've just discovered a new difference between the x-t20 and the x-t2. The x-t2 has 169 phase detection points, but the x-t20 has 91. Does it make a big difference in tracking/focus?
@MaartenHeilbron7 жыл бұрын
That's interesting - what is the source of this information?
@javierperea89677 жыл бұрын
Hello Maarten, Actually is very confusing. www.fujifilm.com/news/n170119_03.html The number of focusing points has been dramatically expanded from 49 in the previous model to 91 (up to 325 points). I looked at the x-t20 specs on fujifilm: www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/x/fujifilm_x_t20/specifications/ Zone AF: 3x3 / 5x5 / 7x7 from 91 areas on 13x7 grid But It said the same thing on the x-t2. I checked on your video that the gred is 13x13 ^^. I'm confused.
@MaartenHeilbron7 жыл бұрын
From those numbers, there is clearly some confusion - but on screen, and in terms of performance, they seem to be the same.

@MaartenHeilbron Thanks a lot. The reason I am asking is that I want to upgrade my camera. Though I have been using the Sony Nex6 for 7 years now, I find it logical to upgrade to another system because the Sony full-frame requires a lot of money

What do you think the benefits of upgrading would be?
@TheOnlyGuess25 күн бұрын
@MaartenHeilbron A better quality images + A better and a faster focus + Menu + A newer version of the camera processor + better lenses.
@MaartenHeilbron24 күн бұрын
Te sensor size is the same, so quality will not change dramatically. Yes, focus will be better and faster (not quite as good as Sony's latest - but this isn't Fujifilm's latest either). Either camerra could benefit from better lenses, although it's true that Fujifilm's best crop lenses are better thank Sony.

Thanks depends on your intentions. If you'd like to be hands-off and let the camera do the work, and only sometimes make manual adjustments, the X-T20. On the other hand, if you'd like to be more involved in making the decisions about an image, the X-T2.

I just bought an XT-20 with the XC 16-50 mm and XC 50-230 mm telephoto lenses all for $800 [all new...not preowned]. I thought that was a great deal. I wanted the XT-3 but economics kicked in. I would be spending at least 3 times the price for the XT-3 with the same lenses. What do you guys think about the XT-20 and the lenses [lower end lenses not as good as the XF series] that I got. Did I make a good choice....I'm not a professional photographer...just learning now. Don't know a lot about photography yet but hope I made a good choice.

Mr Maarten, I would like to ask you about... Using the XT-2, two or three times till now, it has happened as I was using the camera to "freeze" completely, I mean I was seeing the last photo I shot and then nothing else, everything stuck, no pushing, no turning dials changed anything. Only solution I found was to open the battery case and take the battery out and cut the power, since even when I turned the camera off, the image, the "freeze" was still there. My question is, has anything like that happened to you up to now using XT-2? Is this something that happpens sometimes or should I worry. It has happened two or three times and I have not used the camera that much. And I do ask that cause I never owned a camera like this before. Thank you for your time.
@MaartenHeilbron7 жыл бұрын
Clearly that is something that should not happen, and I don't believe has happened to me. I say "believe" because I do accept some general faultiness in electronics, so if it happens once or twice it doesn't register, and because I'm using so many cameras, I don't always remember which it might have happened to. And this kind of this has happened to me - and generally I just do what you likely did - turn it off, remove the battery, etc. until it works again. In any case, that's a problem that you should contact your dealer or Fuji about.
@beltenebrosgr19047 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your response Mr Marteen! It is the second or third time that happened (not sure) since I got the camera mid of last November. I do not use it that often... First time it happened I called my dealer (an a excellent gentleman) and he told me that it might happen since these cameras have high end electronics (or something like that) but it is very rare in that kind and line (and price) of a camera to have that kind of a problem, but you never know, right?. To be honest I just worry if it might happen when I have the grip and it is difficult to just take tha grip off in order to "defreeze" the camera by taking the battery off, especially if you are pressed about time. Or maybe I am too worry for something that happens occasionally to everyone and maybe I should just enjoy the camera and be creative with it as I should!!! Thank you Mr Marteen, I hope for your review or best settings for video (and photo) on the Fuji XT-2.

@iscpns7 жыл бұрын
can you assign the iso control to a command dial on the xt-20?
@MaartenHeilbron7 жыл бұрын
Yes - it can be assigned to the back command dial, push to activate, turn to set. I find this quite useful. That customization is not available on the X-T2, where it might be nice to have it on the back command dial where it can be set with the eye in the viewfinder. Otherwise, getting your left hand over to the ISO dial is a bit more complicated.
@guentermarte7 жыл бұрын
You can assign ISO control to any customizable button. I prefer the front wheel.
@MaartenHeilbron7 жыл бұрын
You can assign ISO control to appear on-screen with any customizable button. The front command dial is not customizable on the X-T20. (If I'm wrong here - please include the exact menu settings required to access this customization.) Neither command dial is customizable on the X-T2. When assigned to the X-T20's rear dial, the ISO can be changed interactively.
