Excellent vid, thanks for posting - We just replaced our old analog Mackie to an x32 - Beginning to dial everything in at our small church - Six on the team, in-ear monitors, tracks and click - Awesome...

This is actually really helpful. We've got different consoles and mixers scattered around, so whenever someone needs a quick tutorial to the x32 I just tell em to go watch this. You cover everything needed to quickly step in, in just over an hour. Excellent for people who have to do a jump from analog to digital in very short time.

If anyone was wondering more about Matrix mixes, they're actually submixes of busses. That's the best way to think about them. Just like busses are submixes of channels. If you have your busses set up as subgroups, like a drum subgroup and a vocal subgroup etc, you can have a different blend of those busses going to any output you choose. You can also send the master buss to the matrix. Because the main LR is a buss. Why might you want or need this? A good example is a video Matrix mix. You have your FOH mix, which in reality is a blend of the acoustic volume, the stage volume and the PA volume. If you sent the LR main out like it is to your video setup by just duplicating the LR mix to another output, the odds are that the drums and guitars would be too quiet in the video because they are already loud in the room and you're not having to send as much through the PA and your vocals would probably be way too loud, because you're having to send a lot of them through the PA because the PA is the only acoustic source in the room trying to compete with the volume of drums and guitar amps. You also wouldn't have any ambience or applause in the video except the bleed from the stage mics. Instead you could have a matrix mix that you mix in the headphones that actually has it closer to the balance you're hearing in the room live, by sending the main LR buss, drum subgroup, instrument sub, and the vocal sub, etc to a matrix and blend to taste and then send that to the video. You could also have an ambience subgroup just for some room mics, and you would have the faders for those turned all the way down in the FOH mix (They would feedback if they were turned up at all, use extreme caution if doing this) then you can send that ambience subgroup to your video matrix, and get the applause and audience reaction. This would not be easily possible without a matrix mix. I wish that they would let you send individual channels to the Matrix mixes though, but they don't. You can only send busses, which you have a limited amount of and are probably having to use some for your monitors and don't have a lot left over for subgroups if you only have 1 board. It stinks that you have to burn a bus just to send the bass or lead vox to the matrix. IMO that's the biggest limitation of the Matrices on this particular board. But that's a trade off for latency and computational power for the board to get the price down. But if you have 2 boards, 1 for FOH and 1 for monitors, then you will have plenty of busses on the FOH board to make the subgroups for everything and do some solid Matrix mix work. If you're a church and focused on video, and you have a second board, you could instead use the second board in the video booth instead of for monitors and have someone mixing the audio just for the video in real time, which is even better than Matrix mixes. Just connect both boards via Cat5 using the AES50 ports and set the inputs on the video board to be the AES50 inputs. You can still do this even if you are already using AES50 for a stage box and digital snake setup. Both boards can share the inputs of the stage box. The FOH board should be the primary board that actually controls the preamp gain on the stage box, and the video board will have digital trim. You don't want to do it the other way around, because if it's clipping, the FOH guy is the one that needs to be checking on the gain staging and controlling the actual preamp gain. I hope maybe this helps someone. These boards are so feature packed. I still remember when they first came out. It used to cost well north of 10k (more like 20k tbh) to get a digital board with these features and this board broke that price barrier for the rest of us who aren't touring with super stars. It's hard to believe that they got it so right, that after all this time, it's become the standard and its still best in its class for the price. Everyone has one now. I've even seen them at big festivals on side stages or monitors. I've used them at small to medium music festivals. So versatile. The updates to the firmware have made it even better. I told my friend about it back in the day and told him I wanted one and and went out and bought one. We've been using it for the past 10+ years and now the faders are all worn out and it's out being serviced to replace them to squeeze another 10 years out of it. I'm about to get the compact version. Considering the M32R, but I don't know if it would be worth the extra money since it won't be a primary board in our setup and won't get the use the other board gets. But maybe. I love the look of the M32R better than the x32. Even though the software is identical. The better faders are worth the extra money that the M32R costs if you are planning on using this professionaly and gigging with it. Honestly for professional stuff, I would rather have the M32R than the full size X32, especially if you are using stage boxes. You don't need the extra 16 inputs on the back of the X32 in that case, you might as well get the smaller one with better faders. I use DCA's usually to mix mostly. So it wouldn't bother me having less faders at all. Something for churches to consider, I think.

As far as you know, the eight output faders can be configured as input faders to have 24 input faders at hand at the same time without having to change layers. It would be useful for live. With the compact model it is possible by pushing 1-8 and 9-16 at the same time even if it does not appear in the manual.

thanks for this overview of the Behringer X32 very informative but I have a question I have the X32 compact and even a couple of hours on the desk when I turned it off and back on the master fader always goes completely down the master fader is the only thing that it doesn't recall just wondering if there's an update for that or do you think there's something wrong that I'm doing
@kordichb
@kordichb 7 жыл бұрын
That is normal for an x32. The master is always down when you turn the board on. I usually keep the master at the same level most of the time, so we know we're to put it when the board is turned on.

hi thanks for the video.. is there way to route a bus to another bus? for example, since the DCA's don't allow you to EQ compress etc, im thinking of sending the all drums to a bus that let me use EQ and compress the all drums, but if I want to send the drums to a monitor, can I send the drum bus to a monitor bus?
@kordichb

No but you can send multiple busses to a matrix. Then send the matrix to your monitors.

@@marcomota2130 Yes you can, if you creat a submix into a bus with all your drum channels. Then you have to deselect all your inputs from stereo bus and select your drum bus to be enabled to stereo bus and then you can apply anything you want.

Is there a way to record vocals from the stage then play them back so I can set my eq? We only have 50 members & I'm the only one (that I know of) who knows how to eq well. Can I record to a thumb drive then play the recording back, and set the eq? How do I do that, is there a better way?
@kordichb
@kordichb 3 жыл бұрын
You can run a usb cable from the card on the back of the mixer. To a computer. The record all 32 channels. You can then playback all 32 Chanel’s from the computer to the mixer. Then save each person in the library. We use Reaper software. But you can use any other software you want.

@@kordichb Thank you for the reply, that is excellent information & with it now I want to get some recordings of our worship team to my home studio for mixing, mastering etc. But it doesn't really help me solve the immediate problem. I'm sorry it's my fault for not explaining exactly what I'm trying to do in detail. This is what I want to do: When I am completely alone in the sanctuary I want to be on the stage, sing into my wired mic and record with the X32. Then go to the sound booth and eq my vocals by listening to the recording I just made. Also I'll add a little compression & FX. I know how to record to a thumb drive, the thing I don't know how to do, or if it's even possible, is to play back what I just recorded thru the X32. The reason I want to do this is so I sound better singing live at church. I'm the only one at our church with engineering experience.... during rehearsals I usually have to run to the soundboard a few times to help the person who is running sound. Again, Thank you! it's awesome that you replied so quickly & if I'm ever in your town I hope you let me buy you lunch.

@@worshipcentralwithstevehar8389 Don't use a thumb drive, use a computer plugged into the card. You will have to get the routing right. You will able to record right off the preamp and the then play back right after the preamp. You can then do any processing and save what you have done. We record 32 tracks every practice. Then the sound guy can come in and play all tracks into the x32, any time and remix and eq everything. So we are ready for Sunday. When we like what we have we save each vocal channel in the library or the whole mix as a new file.

@kordichb
@kordichb 4 жыл бұрын
What sounds bad? It could be that your mix for the house only sounds good in the house. So you could do a separate mix for the live stream. There are a lot of things that could be causing this.
@cdubb9781
@cdubb9781 4 жыл бұрын
Create a sub mix, think of it as a separate monitor mix and mix It with headphones so you can change your live stream mix without effecting your live mix.

Go to Routing then ultra net, send Mixbus02 to a p16 Chanel Just like anything else you send to the p16. Set your tap point too. We have a separate drum mix we sent to the p16. We have 7 drum mics. So we only burn up 1 channel on the p16. Some people have wireless in ears. So they can mix their own drums. kzbin.info This Guy has some older videos that are helpful.
