Hello everybody,
Time has come for what I feared the most...station demolition with the boron fleet.
Fleet composition:
1 Shark + 32 torpedo Baracuda bomber +32 interceptor Mako
10 Rays, Ion net as L turrets
1 aux ship + 20 torpedo Hydra: 2 ion railgun + 2 torp launchers (as anti capital protection) + 20 Thresher for intercept
Casualties report:
- 1 Ray (that was my fault, tried to deploy mines, but you actually need to be on the move when you deploy them, upsie)
- 9 torpedo Baracuda
- 6 torpedo Hydra
Conclusions:
- well...I let you conclude, I've tried everything I could think off, the borons are screwed for station demolition. Guess they need to borrow some real destroyers from the argon or paranid. Also, since the Rays won't do squat in station demolition (the only combat role I need destroyers for), I don't really see a role for them in my fleets.
So the Ray have earned the role of the "joke" destroyer of X4. Sure, it can make a fun personal destroyer, but L turrets that have 550 MJ (at best) vs
argon L plama has 4.840 MJ, or paranid L plasma that has 7.502 MJ, really !? You get more hull dmg from the M railgun 920 MJ, ffs.
That about conclude my tests of the boron fleet.

Torpedoes doing the heavy lifting. Perhaps the higher than usual missile storage on some Boron ships, compared with their peers, is Egosoft trying to tell us something. 😉 It seems pretty clear to me that Boron ships are primarily support ships and concern themselves more with anti fleet actions than anti asset/station actions. It is in keeping with the lore of the Boron who pretty much relied on the Argon for more harder hitting equipment. Boron weapons are basically tasers, judging from what i've seen here. Great at subduing targets but severely lacking in actually hurting them.

Yeah, my boron fleet anti capital solution are a wing of 20 Hydra with 2 ion pulse + 2 torp launchers. And even then, the boron don't have mk2 torpedo launchers... But for station demolition, I think Egosoft is trying to tell us to borrow 10 Behemoths from the argon allies, if we don't want to spend hours to kill a module.🤓

Hi ragnos28 i've done some testing with Ray as well (I would say not as prepared and not in the quality as you do in your vids) but I got a different result so far. My schenario was to send a fleet of Rays (5 Ray) without any support all 5 Rays with a 5star pilot and whit the following fit: - 2x Ion Net Launcher L turret (Capital focus) - 6x Ion Pulse Turret M (Fighter focus) - 6x Dumbfire Mk1 (Capital focus) I sent the fleet to the enemy territory and they had 3 fight after each other (there was no resupply nor reapir). The scenarios were the following: - 2K + small ships - 1K +small right afther the prev fight - 1 I + 3K +small a bit later The Rays fleet were able to win all three fight without casualities. I ve seen several times one of my Rays were in low shield but Xenons never reached the hull. For me looks like at the first glance the inseane amount of shield helps the ship be in fleet and operate with turrets whitout fleeing, doing too dumb manouvers. But in the sad part, my plan was to use this fleet as a kinda arty/sniper fleet but in all three fight they used thier main battery ~ 10-15 times max (all 5 together) therefore I could not really used the "Slow down your enemy keep range and shoot missiles" which I planned to use. Anyhow, I might need to test more but based on my last evening the big shield capacity + missile towers might could work for Rays in capital fight and in station siege (for station siege I might change to Cluster missile, not sure yet) What do you think about this idea, any advice how could I test it more properly (or why the Rays doesn't want to shoot with Main battery) thx for your vid as always, great work

One question, where the fights OOS or IS? Other than that, missile turrets might increase their dps, but if they cluster on top of an xenon I my guess is that manny will die. As for convincing tests, I see it like this: select your wing of Rays, order them to atack the xenon I, xenon K 1, xenon K 2, and so on, all in hight attention, with no atempt to position the destroyers near their targets, no, just atack orders. I will test this loudout with missile turrets, but I usually avoid using missile turrets, because the missiles run out fast, and rearming is a problem for destroyers, as they cannot use highyways and they will reach my wharf after a long time. To be honest, I'm more interested in the missile Rays effect on stations, as I don't really need destroyers at all in fleet combat.

@@ragnos28 it was IS, I was in the fleet leader Ray as a passenger. In the last battle half of my rays was out of missile but still was able to kill the I with the renaming ship missile. But I couldn’t do another fight without restocking. I believe all Rays had 360 missile storage capacity and I only used them for the capital fight. I would love to see this fleet setup to use the range and the main battery to control the fight but AI seems not really capable of handle that. I’m not sure but destroyers can restock missiles from Support ship? With closed loop setup and with mk2 heavy dumbfire 1 aux would be able to almost fully restock the 5 rays ( if I made the calculation correctly) I quickly made a siege test as well ( just started didn’t finished I had to leave my pc) but for the half HP of the xenon defense platform it was no issue. All rays were on range and shoot the missiles and the damage was quite ok. If you will check this or similar I’ll definitely watch it and I’m curious of your result and summary :) I hope it’s possible to make good destroyers and somehow use this ray as I feel in the game destroyers are not really shining and it makes me sad

@@D4mesz One more question, how was the distribution of the missile turrets? Up and down, the ones in the front, the ones in the back? Also, what were the setting for them, so they fire at the station, atack capital ships?

@@ragnos28 to be honest it was not optimized. I made the load out at 2 or 3 am. Don’t remember but I’m sure it could be better than I did. Maybe M 2-3-4 was dumb and 1-5-6 not

@@D4mesz I've prepared a profile for Ray, with the first 2 turrrets, up and down, so 4 dumbfire turrets in total, with 447 heavy cluster missile. Put flak on the L turrets to protect me from fighters. Gone test a personal one against a xenon I, and later reffit my wing of 10 rays and try station demolition again.

I see.. area DMG is... to much safety 20:34 I expected the ion atomizer to be effective, but it's not enough for the surface targets. It seems to be too weak or not working properly.

@@cataclysmhw4394 That is the Ion net...it suppose to disable systems on ships, but it does not even do that, as the Ks that were hit with it flew and pew pew just fine. The Ion automizer is an M weapon that is good against fighters (maybe I should use it for my Threshers 🤔), but imo, the Hydra does not need it, as the ion railgun hit hard, from distance.

My carrier fleet or 90 fighters which normally melt any xenon fleet failed to take a defence station. What is the best OOS fleet for station demolition? (I have all DLCs)

I could not tell, as I don't do station demolition OOS. My guess would be a wing of 10 Asgards. 🤔

OOS station destroying seems very different to in system. Best thing I find is just to deal with stations by micro management in system. Anything OOS will either need a full wing of Battleships (Asgards) or an immense level of other ships. And you'd end up losing far too much to do it.

@@Iluvantir Not so. I clear xenon sectors of their stations with 5 syn's equiped with L Par Plasma and M Bolt OOS. So long as they stay clumped it's just a waiting game. I've had the AI derp and one of the Syn's will charge towards the station for some dumb reason and just die instantly. If I catch it moving at all i just drag a move and wait order into its attack order list and reset its position. This is all done with Seta on btw.

моя тактика по уничтожению xenon станций. над станцией в 100км ставлю навигационный маяк. отправляю туда флот. а потом оттуда даю команду на атаку. достаточно 5-6 осака.

I have an establish tactic for station demolition, that prety much automate the process. Hell, it even works with Behemoths: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5-1g3qMp7R5fKs Is just that the boron do not have station demolition capability, and everything I've tried in that regard, failed.

Ray with 72turrets was a thing in x3. Now it's looks like a clown ship.

Yeah...useless, that is what Ray is. I will post a conclusion clip for the boron ships...and I can tell you right now...it won't be very flattering towards the Ray. 😐

@@ragnos28 Think of it as a fat gunboat. The main battery can snipe s and m ships reliably. Its just very lackluster vs capital targets.

@@ragnos28 Boron fleet is meant to use masse S/M ships missiles bombardments. They have no heavy weapons, like terrans.

@@Miithrandir Then is a hard no from me. For one missile run out fast. Tested a Raptor with missile turrets: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZSxc6aKmJ2bsNE, run out of missiles in a minute or two, then I said F.... it and just send the fighters out. Also, sending S/M ships against a station is a sure way to kill them on mass, either by M turrets or explosion dmg, been there done that. 😮‍💨 Well, that is for station demolition, for fleet combat a wing for Hydras with 2 railgun + 2 torpedo launchers proved to be a good anti capital solution. Don't really need destroyers for anything , but they can stay in my fleet and look pretty, and be a never ending supply of friendly fire with the Ion net, that also affect my own ships. 😉 And even the one you fly if you are not carefull. I'm not even mad anymore, I just laugh at myself, for being so hyped for the boron DLC.🙃
