X4 Foundations: Shih a good fighter or best fighter?

My favorite small ship by far is the Pulsar Vanguard, 6 weapon slots (2x Ion Blaster and 4x Thermal Disintegrator) and is a BEAST of a personal ship for capturing S/M ships!! I even use it to go boarding and bring shields/hulls down for my boarding teams. I capture any number of L/XL ships that way, and the ship is light and maneuverable. As for a M ship, my personal favorite is a Dragon (6 weapon slots and 2 turrets), and I use that to shred anything Xenon or Kha'ahk that comes near me. Have fun!!

Do engines or thrusters matter for out-of-sector combat? Hard to find reliable info on what the OOS calculation is based on, but if engines/thrusters don’t affect it then maybe that’s a place to save some credits.

I know it affects weapons and hit chance. But for the engines and thrusters, I’m honestly not sure. That’s why I just use the Paranid engines. Teladi shields due to the more shielding points cause they like to boost away. I do believe the algorithm is all about hit chances since that is the only variable. Speed and thrust should be a constant stat based of the type.

Well, my choices for S class fighter is POI Takoba and YAKI Moreya. They are the fastest ships in the game and very maneuverable. For heavy fighter is (Zyarth Patriarcy) Chimera. It has good HP, Very fast for heavy fighter + 5x guns. My take on S and M craft is that speed is a crucial factor. More speed = more chances to get out of a fight alive if things go sideways, and get in a fight more quickly. For an Ai pilot, it means if they get clapped, they have more chances to flee and don't lose a ship, than reengage after restoring their shield + don't abuse boost too much.

OSS or ISS for speed factor? Also i hate how the AI boosts away in a fight. It irks me to no end.

@@T-Skillet I have Tokyo carrier filled with 20 takobas with PAR Mk 3 Combat Engine (I builded them earlier, before getting Split stuff) and 20 Chimeras with split combat mk4 engine. They outrunning Xeno without any problems so I didn't had any problems with boosting at all

Also I have 4 crazy speedy Katanas and each one of them has speed around 1800 m/s, and they managed to dismantle small pack of Xeno almost on their own (I have to just give order to flee and attack again couple times ) They don't use boost at all)

I started the game with elite, it felt really bad but I knew it was the most junk starter ship so what can I do? I went to go do the boron mission chain and I got myself a Mako, it felt really good compared to the Elite, obviously. Did some quest grinding and money collecting, got myself a Barracuda. Boron weaponry kinda sucks, and having only 3 weapons is not really nice, but 3 boron shields (the best in the game) really made it a good training ship to learn to play the game. Some days later I did go meet the split, got the military license almost too easily (xen was invading Family Zhin at a steady stream, was great money grind opportunity for a noob that I was) Did more moni grind and got myself a Hydra, first ever medium sized ship. I really liked it against kha'ak, the fast and hard hitting projectiles really did leave a mark on them, and in return they didn't do much to my shields. against a bit bigger party of xenons tho, all I could do was run away. Can't send a corvette to do a fighters job. Got myself an Asp to try out, thinking it can't be too much better than barracuda, but it fking hell was so much better. Just the speed and not being restricted to boron weapons. I outfitted it with 2 gatlins and a plasma to blast those heavy Ps in the face. Some time after that I thought why not give chimera a chance, I had the money for it after I did set up a few miners for passive income and all that good stuff. Welp, it turns out 5 neutron gatlins can shred even P if I get close enough, and I was sold. Been using this ship ever since, just trying out a few different weapon setups every now and then. Kinda did settle for 2 pulses, 2 broton barrages and dumbfire launcher with heavy scatters. so I have maximum coverage, pulses take care of fighters, proton barrages incapacitate capitals and scatter launcher is enough to blow up destroyers and Ks if I throw enough money at the problem. Also, it tends to leave a nasty mark on medium crafts, if I aim well enough. Overall Chimera is my favourite ship in the game, outside of station demolition or boarding, it can really do anything.. even those "create opening" missions where I gotta go find a xenon station and blow up it's turrets while 200 defense drones are up in my butt, but after doing it twice I just decided to use destroyers in the future.

All those are great ships.... Welllll maybe not the Barracuda and Elite. But Mako, Hydra (my favorite M class), Chimera and Asp. Amazing. That's good you start felt your way through it. Plus that little spot you found in ZYA is perfect for grinding that rep up and making profitssss.

I typically don't compare fighters to heavy fighters as I use them for different reasons. In my estimation the Shih is the best Heavy Fighter, which does exactly what you want it to do, hold down big engagements out of sector. I think your asking for trouble if you try to do the same with the Kalis, it just doesn't have any firepower for a heavy fighter. Best use case for Kalis is tying up an opposing fleet until you can mobilize bigger guns to help win a fight. That's for heavy fighters. For regular fighters, I like your Asp but I raise you the Moreya, by far the best player ship if you want a small sized ship.

I did enjoy the Moreya in the last universe. I am attempting to cap one and their version of the Nem. But so far not successful. But if you can get the moreya it is fun, fast, maneuverable. Good quality ship… ya know for being part xenon.

Well, you get 2 of them out of the Terran Storylines (not to mention a syn, kurokami, and THE best way to grab the Xenon sectors Data Vaults if your into that) and if you don't rat the Yaki out you get more than enough rep to buy the blueprints as well. So unless this universe is a no or limited storyline shouldn't really need to wait for a cap to get it as a player ship, maybe if your trying to make fleets of them though.

No I need to gain the rep to start that story line! 😂 been…. Uhmm….. gathering a fleet is Asgards. 😁 Attempted a run at a Syn but it’s 4 escort Osakas got in the way and there were a LOT of missiles in the air.

Been using the Kalis as a torpedo bombers for my OOS fleets; 1/4 of the carriers compliments as bombers. The shields let them get in and out to dock and reload on the carrier, especially if the heavy fighters are already engaged... Biggest issue is ships taking damage from "imminent explosions".

@@nevar108 I had that fea with the Blast mortar. But they have been good! Ship explosions are a little bigger though. Do you have an Aux ship with your fleet?

I'm partial to the split ships but I really do like this fighter. If thin hulls are still a factor in piracy then Asp Raider has it's uses. Shih is slow in combat, Chimera get out easier. I think NPC work better with Shih though because the AI is dumb.

It’s is a good ship for the AI. In this universe I used the Shih with Kalis and Tokoba…. All three did really well together. Two tanks and an interceptor. Blast mortars for the most part. I started adding plasma at one point. With the intro of 6.2 and mines they might even be deadlier. I’m not sure on the AI’s determination for deploying them in combat though.

Due to production constraints on the Boron in my universe I have not been able to build more than 2 ships without a lengthy pause. Much like the split. I’ve read the Mako is good in numbers.

You can get Shin from Vigor syndicate wharf in Windfall I Union summit, but you need the military license. The sector right above that one is Silent witness I and the big highway goes through that sector so it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Sorry! You are correct this was done not with a new player in mind that is my bad. But you can get it with the Vigor syndicate. You’ll typically start. It friendly with them and for what I’ve seen they don’t have a ton of them in their patrol fleets. The rep fiend can be a drag. BUT! Once done you get access to the Shih at level 10 and the Barbarossa at level 20.
