Thank you, I don't have a water pump, and you helped a mechanically challenged female empty the waterbed so I could surprise my son with new bedroom furniture!

Good job men. This confirmed what I was considering prior to starting. I used the faucet adapter to fill the hose, kinked it to seal water in, then walked the hose end outside and released the kink. It`s draining like a champ. When empty I will hook up the hose to the faucet and fill the new bladder with warm water. I had the faucet adapter in my kit which was purchased 30 years ago. Thanks.

One caveat for anyone undergoing this siphoning method: if your waterbed isn't elevated a decent amount from the eventual output of the hose, it will be relatively difficult to get a decent stream going. A quicker method would be to rent an electric pump that will do the work for you. However, if you have sufficient height and would rather use a hose to siphon, this video does demonstrate the process quite well. Be sure to also eliminate air and air bubbles as best as possible while draining.

Worked great! I actually attached hose to bathroom sink to fill, then detached, walked hose through bedroom, tossed out window, and siphon remained in tact.

Was good to find your vid ...I'm moving, getting my pad paintied, and the painter has asked me to buy a pump in order to move the bed - so, I'll find myself an hour ....do it this way! It's a double bladder ...so I'm HOPING it'll be a little easier ; ) ) Gotta ask though ...did you actually bust the nipple/attachment at the end??? HAHAHAHA!!!!

Say if you were to SELL your water bed as used as it is, how much would it be worth ?? I ask because there is one water bed on Craig List (North Virginia area) for $399, California King size, about 10 yrs old. I am just wondering if it is worth it. It is used but looks nice, with shelves/mirror on the headboard. Thank you. Giuseppe

i know this is a year late, but a brand new water bed mattress is about 80 bux, a frame could be anywhere from 200 to 400 used.

Nicholas Hall I'm sorry to hear that. Were you trying to drain to a higher area or a lower area? This method will not work for draining to higher levels. Let me know.

Nicholas Hall Run it for a minute or so to make sure all the air is out of the hose. And make sure to push the nozel down so no air gets in the hose.

I watched your video last night as I have king size water bed that had to be emptied in 2 days.I had ordered a drain kit ($5) but needed more info. I was leary since one of the comments below said that if you had fiber in the mattress it wouldn't work. So, I put in the drain, went outside and got the hose and dragged it in. I hooked it up and then went out on the porch and before I got down the last step with the other end, the water was flowing. I didn't have to run the water into the bed first. It took exactly 1 hour and I was pleased as punch. However, getting the mattress out of the bed was really hard. I wasn't strong enough to roll the bed all the way to the drain. With the fiber, it added many more pounds. I got it 2/3 of the way out and saw that it still had about 10 gallons of water in it. So, I got my oil pan and put it on the floor of the bed, cut a hole in the mattress and drained the water out. It took several trips to the tub to empty it but I got it done. I then dragged the mattress out on the porch. Whew! I'm tired! But, if it wasn't for the last part it would have been a breeze. Thanks for the video!! (Having someone to help would have been great!)
