The first battle gives us control of Guan Yu, fighting to take over Fan Castle. You have a lot of running around to do outside before finally opening the floodgates and riding the river into the castle to take out the commanders.
The 2nd battle lets us use Guan Suo who sports Ling Tong's nunchucks. Then it's you and Guan Yu retreating from the pursuing Wei and Wu forces. Guan Yu does have a health bar so you do have to look after him.
The CG cutscene at the end is honestly the best I've seen for showing Liu Bei's pain after this.

It is objectively better than braindead 8, drama-wise, gameplay-wise and level design-wise. While 7 is an easy game, especially comparing to 6, 4 or 3, it is not as braindead as 8. The latter literally fills up your musou bar with just a couple of hits, and even when you do not want to do musous, the game still will force you to overkill thousands almost instantly with somersault attacks. I genuinly hate 8 and 9 (sw 4/4-2 and orochi 4 as well) for removing any complexity and deeper combat mechanics. Levels are flat, story and cinematic is awful or cringey (or both), gameplay is also a joke. Just press 1 button to overkill everything on the screen, this is bs design. I somehwhat like DW 7, I really like SW3 and WO3, but every warriors game since DW8 is garbage. I have no idea why fans tolerate this quality reduction. I guess KT really do think that their community are literal morons.

Coming from your DW8 Fan Castle, Liu Bei reaction in DW7 Fan Castle finale was damn amazing. Never been the wise Liu Bei goes in rage like that. It may feel exaggerated especially that damn table slash, but damn if that is the most angriest emotional breakdown i've ever seen from a man of benevolence, Liu Bei himself. Gotta like how Liu Bei just straight up angry at Zhao Yun (for the damn first time) after he just cant accept his sworn brother death as the first cutscene starts.

Man this still hurts me til this day the way Guan Suo said father. Shu was a force to be reckoned with and it took Wei and Wu just to take down Guan Yu. Shu never recovered after this.......

Honesly it was pointless for wu to turn on Shu. Sure they got Jing but it only weaken the two dynasties as wei gently got a bit stronger and later replace by Jin.

Yeah but wu already tried to kill liu bei 2 times and zhugeliang at least 3 times. And at that time, shu is winning against wei a lot. So if wu didnt attack shu and let wei lose, then shu will definitely attack wu for trying kill lie bei and zhuge liang in the past and lose the chance to take jing because shu never want to give jing to wu. Attacking shu is probably the best choice at that time because most shu army are with liubei at hanzhong to war against wei and its take alot of time to move the army back to help jing. The only big mistake is sun quan executing guan yu to death instead keep it as a hostage, and that end bad because its motivated zhang fei and liu bei to turn back to south attacking wu.

I am a Wei fan. If this battle was a victory for the Shu forces their next move would be the invasion of Xu Chang.If Wei didn't ally with Wu they would be screwed against Shu

If Wu hadn’t became selfish and side with Cao Cao at Fan Castle, then the greatest threat of Wu and Shu would have fallen. And knowing Liu Bei’s benevolence, he would of rewarded Sun Quan for his efforts and even return the lands of Jing. Cao Cao played a wise card to use Wu to save himself and Wei. And of course years later Shu fell to Wei, so in the end, Cao Cao didn’t die for nothing for the land he left finally destroyed the ideals of the one he longed to destroy

Mystery Anime Cao Cao lost the perfect opportunity to conquer China at Chi Bi which was the battle that his military forces had severe casualties and it was difficult to recover even though he had so much land in the centre and the north. I agree with what you said if Sun Quan had helped Liu Bei and wasn't so greedy for Jing Province the threat of Wei would be no more because if Fan Castle fell. The Shu Kingdon could invade Xu Chang and the Wu Kingdon could go for Luo Yang and Chang An in the end. When the war was over they could split the land
