Outdoor boys and Kent Rollins... All my favorites...

Xander, I think you have the record for sleeping outdoors in the winter without a wood stove, or even a tent for that matter. That's quite an accomplishment for someone who's overcome addiction and barely began their outdoor winter journey just a handful of years ago. Your wilderness skills are through the roof and along with your mental toughness I believe would carry you through a season of ALONE to the end. You should be very proud, my friend.

Hey man, skookum video! One thing you could try for the hanging chicken rotisserie is a small battery operated decoy spinning device that’s used in spearfishing. It spins anything small at a slow rate for hours. It would work swimmingly for this application. It’s called a decoy teaser a few different companies make ‘em.

I use vinyl gloves with a chicken like this when it is raw, again, when I am finished and need to strip the meat off the bone. "Leave no Trace" techniques allow me to use the throwaway gloves many times in the campsite allowing me to "save my hands" for more ardent tasks. I take 20 gloves or so. Also, with that fire, chicken stock would have been easy to make, drink in the morning and give nice nutrients to the body. Throwing it in the fire so early made me cringe but I get it. Survival. The Acorn Squash roasted in the fire was extraordinary. Well done. Your brother in the woods. JB

SW USA eh? Currently it might be more similar to your home stomping grounds than normal. More snow lately throughout the Western US might make it seem more like Canada depending where you're headed. Though I hope you get to experience whatever it is you're seeking some of the most beautiful country in the SW is the desert, Redrock Canyon lands. The sagebrush high desert. Borrowed from people who have lived in the SW for ages, wherever you are headed may you Walk in Beauty.
