A couple things I appreciated about their relationship: They weren't wishy-washy about whether they really like each other or not. Too often one or both parties never can outright admit it or act on it outside of manditory obligations. Either that or they're conveniently too shy or embarrassed. Not shying away the fact they had sex and eventually a son as a result. And finally not hiding the kiss at the end. No point being weird about it after having confimation they slept together before. The thing I adored most about Noah's speech about how he wanted time to stop when Mio was fading away is how that made me feel the same way. I also wanted time to cease, for us to be able to go on one more adventure, for there to be one more day where she was alive. I think it was an intentional parallel, to show the player how they're not above nor immune to the temptation of living in the past forever, either. Such a beautiful, thought-provoking game.

Who didn't wished for more time to do something or to spend a bit more of time with our loved ones while they're still with you. A detail I really like about N taunting Noah by asking him to send Mio off is that sending people off is shown to be more of an emotional thing on the part of the offseer, with it representing the offseer inheriting the hopes and dreams of the ones who died in their stead. Noah even promises Mio when they exchange flutes that when her time is up, he'll keep going him her stead, just like Mio did for Miyabi before. So when Noah refuses to send her off, he is quite literally rejecting that wish Mio had, making him no different from N in that moment.

Mio is a far better love interest character than Fiora ever was. Instead of being told everything about their relationship up front like with Shulk and Fiora, like them being childhood friends and that literally everyone ships them together, we see the romance between Noah and Mio build naturally in real time.
@WhitePaintbrush2 жыл бұрын
Fiora was written as a love interest first and a character second. I found it difficult to feel any real chemistry between them, because Fiora never felt like a real character to me. She just felt so flat; almost everything about her, all her motivations and all her actions, revolved around Shulk, and the only time they didn’t is when she was being used as a plot device rather than affecting the plot herself. It doesn’t help that she was away from the main plot for a long time, and in that time a much more interesting and well written character, Melia, was introduced to the party - one who also had a crush on Shulk. Though I think from a writing point of view Melia’s one-sided crush was unnecessary and could’ve been cut, I couldn’t help but root for her simply because she was just that much better a character.
@Melian172 жыл бұрын
Well to be honest I think it's kind of unfair to compare Fiora and Mio because they are two completely different kinds of characters and the purposes they serve was very different plot-wise. Fiora was introduced and established right away to make sure you understand why Shulk was so sad and wanted to go take revenge when she was killed by Metal Face. Compared to Mio who is a main character as well alongside Noah and we get to see the walls break down between them because they just met a few hours before they started journeying together. Unlike Fiora who has known Shulk her whole life and we didn't get to see them grow together and develop their love for each other because they already loved each other before the game even starts. All in all, I absolutely love both games and both characters, only reason I like Fiora a bit more is that I have bias and the original Xenoblade will always be my favorite game of all time and it is very hard to change my mind about that.
@WhitePaintbrush2 жыл бұрын
@@Melian17 but that’s kind of part of the issue. Her primary reason for existing is to be a motivation for Shulk - and she does that job pretty well, the “death” scene was phenomenal and I was *very* strongly invested in Shulk’s quest for revenge- but unfortunately she doesn’t have much more depth than that, and especially after she comes back and permanently joins the party you start to realize how one-dimensional she is. She’s more of a plot device than a character, really. Ironically, the fact that she was written primarily with romance in mind is the very thing that makes the romance fall flat, because it’s hard to feel the connection between two characters when one of them just doesn’t feel like a person. I think there is a lot more they could’ve done to flesh her out even within the constraints of the plot - just some insight into what’s on her mind apart from Shulk would’ve gone a long way.
@Melian172 жыл бұрын
@@WhitePaintbrush That is a very fair point and that does make a lot of sense I do agree that she is kind of a one-sided character and it does kind of fall flat on the romance. Personally, though, I do not really see that as an issue in the game because by the time she does join the party to Shulk his journey isn't about revenge anymore and instead figuring out why we're at war and why we need to fight. So by this point, the romance aspect is supposed to take a backseat and not be entirely prevalent in the game and instead focus on the underlying issue of why Egil is doing what he is. There are moments where they show the romantic side but all of those I feel are added in to enforce Melia's tragedy of a story where she just can't get what she wants at all throughout the entire game no matter how AMAZING OF A CHARACTER SHE IS. I definitely do agree that Fiora is one dimensional and I will say that I think it's because they want the best and main female character to be Melia who has much more development and growth. Also, I am a melia simp so I have a heavy bias towards her so this might sound a bit one-sided but that's at least my opinion
@lilagonzales11452 жыл бұрын
I adored each of the relationships of Xenoblade 3. I honestly disliked Fiora and Shulk’s relationship as they shoved their relationship literally down our throats despite there being no development of chemistry. I got to say this and this video seems like the best place to say it. Noah and Mio are probably the best example of soul mates I have seen. No matter how many times they died and were reborn they still found eachother again. Heck even when N and M finally lived long enough to reach their ten years and die out of the system outright Noah and Mio were still reborn and found eachother. This continued after the game where it's revealed that the first scene was actually the last scene when Noah hears the flute, and he went off to meet Mio again in the new world.

I didn't like Fiora in the first game and I didn't care for the romance in the second game but in this one it was build perfectly. Here is an extra point that I noticed and I didn't see many noticed as well: After Noah and Mio exchanged their flutes, they also switched the music notes they play!! Noah started playing the Agnes off-seers music ( the higher notes the Mio usedto play ) while Mio started plays the Keves’s ( lower notes). This is a small detail that I liked.. it showed that not only they exchanged a very important object to them but also they exchanged something on a spiritual level. Playing the music of your once enemy is like excepting everything about them ❤️ Very beautiful 😍

I had a discussion with someone else who said that Noah was the least developed character in the game and I basically said similar points to you. His character is subtle most of the game with a show not tell mentality. His friendship with the party is developed in a way that is not in your face. He and Taion have several scenes since they both operated as the strategists of their teams with subtle nods of Noah noticing that Taion is more suited to it. And there are so many campfire scenes showing budding friendships and developments in that with no dialogue. The other person refused to understand and I am happy to see that there are others out there that get it. A character bloodying his knuckles on metal jail bars and continuing to punch them almost to a breaking of hands level out of desperation to stave off despair is definitely a "Personality" it shows how he has kinda changed and is still the same. He took the job as an offseer not because he liked the idea he saw it as a hope that the souls of those passed find peace. He sees the dead not in any positive way he sees the dead as they are. Elaborated on by Eunie and Rikku multiple times He is closer to the concept of death than most of the party and Mio is the only other person who can understand what he is going through because of her past with Miyabi.
@miguelpadilla58992 жыл бұрын
That's true, Noah's character development is quite subtle. When I finished the game 2 days ago, I looked back at the experience as a whole and noticed how he changed drastically. He was reserved from the others, a little quiet, and there's many moments where his friends outright tell him that they don't understand him, or that he is weird. But by the end of the game, everyone gets his ideologies, everyone understands him, and more importantly, he changed, now he is more open to them. Because of guys like that person you had a discussion with, is that writers makes everything so stupidly obvious and have to throw entire walls of text for just communicating that a character changed.

Perhaps it is a little because the Crys arc has been a rushed at the end, and it was an important one about how Noah learns to open up his feelings to the people around him, showing his emotions through his music, but ye indeed, I loved how Noah character developpement has been really subtle, it really is enjoyable after the "on the nose" previous character developpments of Shulk and Rex as main character, too shonen-ish

Noah's principles of avoiding killing, respecting the dead, seeking the truth, keeping moving forward, and protecting the power to choose make him very easy for anyone to relate to, so despite having his own identity it's easy to think of him as The Protagonist or even somehow a self-insert. It doesn't help that he's a natural leader figure whom no one questions, and up until Agnus Castle his only apparent flaws are (a) sometimes not understanding people (Mio, Lanz) and (b) being somewhat impatient (with Lanz). I'm not surprised people would miss the development he does have, especially in the little moments. I just love how casual it is. They slowly approach each other unlike Lanz and Sena being instantly best buddies (I still love this fact) or Eunie and Taion being polar oppossites. They have a similar thought, share a hobby, take their job serious and have an interest for each other. It's something that could happen with everyone. A meeting out of nowhere and seemingly nothing in common but the more and more you interact and your journey takes you realize this person is good for you and vise versa. On top of that the moment they fused and shared memories the first time instantly changed how they behaved towards each others. They immediately took a step back and slowly cope with the situation. Xenoblade 3 really is a journey that takes time to build a construct til the very end and while the Sidequest Structure can tire you out in the long run it was probably the best way to tell this story. 9:22 I love how Riku grins here. Since it's indicated that he knows Melia (and since Nopon aren't part of the cycle) we can assume that he is well aware of the process and just wants to see the others reactions

Great video! It's been a while since I last commented on one of your videos. After that amazing one, you did on Pyra and Mythra been waiting on the next one. I had just finished XC3 last week and Noah and Mio's relationship is a topic I've been wanting to talk about. One thing I've come to appreciate in past Xenoblade games is the romance. From Rex/Pyra & Mythra and now Noah/Mio. The moment that hooked me on these two was the flute exchange scene. The small moment where Mio just vents her frustration to Noah so openly in a way you've never seen her be before but it's what Sena says that makes it click. Mio never has been this way with her and they are best friends but with Noah, she's been able to open up to him about her feelings about her struggles. Even Lanz and Taion could see it. As for N and M, I see their relationship as a darker version of Jin and Lora's relationship from XC2. Jin loved Lora but he was very protective of her to the point where her words caused him to go down a dark path. With N it's just scary to see how he's turned his love for M into a sick sense of possession. Even when Mio tries to tell him that M just wanted him and just for him to call her Mio it hurts. She didn't want forever just her life with Noah. Honestly, the only thing story-wise that I'm not pleased with entirely is the ending. The cast parting hits hard but other details feel off. I'll also admit I still feel a stronger emotional connection to XC2's ending but despite that XC3 is a great game! Great video and glad you enjoyed XC3.
@jacobmonks37222 жыл бұрын
Chapter 5 and 6 was such an emotional peak, it couldn't have possibly outdone itself. I cried at the end of Chapter 5, it shook me when the screen cut to Chapter end. The ending was much more hopeful and uplifting, but I don't think it hits as strongly because the characters and dialogue are only reinforcing the things we already know as a result of the previous chapters. It can be emotional, but it's not doing anything to elicit an extreme reaction like Chapter 5.

Wish I'd seen this the day it came out, cause now I'm a week out from the ending and my ABSOLUTELY SOUL SHREDDED EMOTIONAL RAWNESS Has had a chance to calm down and I kinda have to talk in a more tempered way, and all I wanna do is be passionate and gush about this series that means so much to me. I stumbled upon it randomly, but I was glad to have read Le Guin's "The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas" before playing Xenoblade Chronicles 3. To break down an already short story, a fictional utopian town was able to exist only because one small child was tortured indefinitely in the town's only locked door. Those curious about the room's contents were able to see the child, on the condition that they would not interfere. Being exposed to the ethical conundrum, most of those who entered fled the town. In Xenoblade 3, M absolutely experienced a similar dilemma after the numerous lives N had taken, and had to walk away from him. She wanted an eternity with him, but not at the cost of others' sufferings.

Just watched through the whole game (I know I'm 6 months late), and man I have rewatched the ending scene 10 times now and I still cry watching it. It is so bittersweet, but at the same time on a good note that they will continue with a bright future ahead of them instead of endless battles. Thanks for the great analysis of Noah and Mio, really helps me through the infamous post-game depression. Though the antagonists (Mobeus) are all boring save for a few of them, something can be said that by the end credit sequence, we as the players have some thoughts whether it is better to stay in the forever now, so these 3 pairs can stay together. They all have developed their relationship so much, that they're basically unconfessed lovers at best, platonic/besties at worst (Noah and Mio are lovers though). Rewinding time means they will be separated for who knows how long across worlds, and no guarantees if they will even remember each other, essentially a reset button to their relationships. It's fascinating how by the end the players have some second thoughts on the villains' ideals. As Melia said, everyone has a Mobeus inside of them.

I’m so surprised so many content creators don’t seem to be as touched by the meaning of the story, as I was. One thing I really love about this game is, while you can tell that Noah and Mio are the main leads, all of the party get a chance to actively participate in the story from the beginning. Beyond that, we get to see everyone interact in 'slice of life' or quite moments as part of the story itself without the pacing being harmed. The campsite discussions which take the place of Heart to Hearts are nice, but having the smaller character moments as part of the main plot actually made it so that I felt like I connected more with the characters. 1:16 Cat girls are the best and you know it. 7:10 "Whatever Life is lost, I won't let you shoulder it all alone." 7:14 Those ear Physics though. I love the way that they can actually act as an indicator of her mood. The Jail sequence was really well put together, that and the homecoming/flashback are the things that destroyed my emotions the most. Also, Mio with long hair is based. This is a pretty good analysis, not gonna lie. Have a like and a sub.

This game is probably the first JRPG that makes me think that these characters could be actual people in real life and not only fictional characters, all of them felt so realistical in the way they talk, think and etc. Even Z that it's a concept is kind of a personification from things that all of us fear and think about This game is really smart and mature compared to a genre that it's mostly for shounen anime fans, and even tho i like anime, it was really a breath of fresh air a JRPG like this one Apparently Nier is similiar and i'm so hyped to Switch launch Edit: This also kind of falls with Persona too, but i think that Persona characters in the main story are kind of animey too, and they get deeper with the social links, while in XC3 the main quest is deep and the side quests are more animey, and no, none of what i said in this entire comment is a flaw to this game or anything

Whoa this an amazing video. Ngl before I watched this I was on the mindset that Taion and Eunie held a more interesting and developed relationship than Noah and Mio due to Taion's past in Lambda and Eunie remembering her past life. Plus it also helps how rocky their relationship became rocky at first due to them being at each other's throat, but change in more noticeable way (for me at least) as they comfort each other as we seen with Taion offering Eunie tea to help her with her hands shaking in chapter 3 (I believe if not 4) and Eunie checking on Taion regarding his thoughts with Nimue in his side story. I was like why aren't they the main protagonist instead of Noah and Mio, buy you did a fantastic job pointing out the significance and meaning of their relationship that did went over my head during my first play through. While I'm still am team Taion and Eunie, you did help open my eyes on how dymanic and significant Noah and Mio's relationship is, especially toward their older counterparts, N and M.
@MrWanton162 жыл бұрын
For what it's worth despite preferring Noah and Mio, I do think Taion and Eunie are a lot easier to keep track of due to being a lot more traditional a dynamic. It's the whole hot-blooded girl/ sorta know it all boy you see in a lot of anime, alongside the usual kinda conflict that comes with it. Their moments are rarer but I think due to that they're also a lot more blatant with their scenes' intent because they start off on such opposite ends of the spectrum in comparison to Mio and Noah who sorta click on a base-level from the start.

I really like how grounded the story of Xenoblade 3 and how consistent it is in regards of pacing and such.. Like sure there's no Dickson/Zanza reveal or Coffee and Milk to Klaus reveal but the amount of mystery and struggles they introduced to the players feels right at home just like how this video discussed the struggle of Noa and Mio... But not just that, almost every characters in this game even the NPCs have depth into them. In colonies they discuss strife, doubt, fear and agony, you can feel and immerse yourself in different problems the world showcases.. Thru-out the runtime there's little to no unneccesary fillers which breaks the pace (A major problem in the first 2 games) but they're reserved in side quests.. Everyone criticize the villains is kinda weak? And I kinda agree because in the beginning they feel like this Omnipresent, All-Knowing, Mind-controlling and can teleport everywhere type of being but for some reason they just let the Ouroboros chip away thru their ranks and colonies leaving them cornered in the Origin... Makes me feel like they are just means as a nuisance for the heroes rather than a real threat.. Since only N and M and Z (Maybe a bit of X?) really pushed the party into their limits.. I do hope they kinda made the other consuls more of a wall for the party..
@lylatfox42 жыл бұрын
I want to sidetrack about the whole underwhelming villain thing, since it's a common sentiment. there's atleast 26 of them. I don't need to know their sad backstory or how they have some depth of you look closer, no, I want them to be evil so I can go and beat them up and so I can love mio punching the shit out of them in frustration, their role in the story is clear, a bunch of old people abusing their power to make people do their bidding in order to keep the status quo. I find the more intriguing aspect is their relationship with their colonies, some of them are basically tyrants while others try to avoid conflict with ouroborus and some even have relatively fine relationships with their colonies like colony iota
@The_Vible2 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah I suppose so. Just three egos to represent origin and hires those that want to prolong the current state of the world. Its simple and even though the main villain doesn't have the depth that the other games main villains do; D, J and N make up for it

Yeah. Moebius, to me, were deliberately made shallow, because they're embodiments of the status quo - something so unrelentingly horrible that any sympathy afforded to motives to continue it would come off as making excuses. So they didn't try, except for the core trio of D, J, and N, while indicating Z isn't really a person who has motives beyond a bugged program.

I think that D deserved to be more of a Metal Face that would constantly kill important people and be a nemesis tho, or J But i really liked J's end, meanwhile N and M were amazing in every aspect, except that M deserved a little more screentime (but what we saw was aleardy nice)

@@renren47618 While it wasn't really her, I pretty much went out of my way at the beginning of Chapter 6 to get as much time with Mio in M's armor as I could. In addition, I pretty much always keep Dominion Flower on her in honor of M. M is probably my favourite character and it is a shame she didn't get more time in the spotlight, getting overshadowed by N most of the time outside of her boss fight, which wasn't really against her at all reading between the lines, but was actually against Mio since the two had already switched.
