This was a remarkable performance and for my first ever reaction to Led Zeppelin I have to say they absolutely destroyed. The dude with the double guitar meant business!

This is why us old dudes watch reaction channels, after hearing these songs hundred of times we forget just how amazing these songs are and watching someone listen to them for the 1st time reminds us of how blown away we were when we 1st heard them. The magic and wonder of it all is returned to us.

Led Zeppelin was one of the premiere groups of the late 60's - 70's. Jimmy Page is one of the top guitarists of all time. The musical ability of bands in this era was out of this world. No computer generated stuff, no auto tuners, nothing but pure talent. It was a great time to be alive and see it all unfold.

The best way to do Zeppelin for the first time is to begin at the start, and listen to every song on every studio album, one after another, track by track, from 1969 to 1982. You will thank me. They simply don't have a bad song, and experiencing their musical evolution is incredible. Led Zeppelin was the best of the best.

This is a great song, and an excellent example of progressive rock. Led Zeppelin was the most creative and versatile rock band in history. I recommend a deeper dive into their catalogue to understand and appreciate that. One suggestion, if I may. Listen to studio versions first, then live. The guys loved to improvise during live performances and the only way to appreciate how incredible that was, as well as Page's genius in the studio, is to hear songs as they were originally recorded. As for Page's double-neck guitar, when they recorded this song, he played both 6-string and 12-string acoustic guitars, as well as an electric guitar for the solo. Since he couldn’t switch between three guitars for one song during a live performance, he had a double-neck guitar made for him to "give it [Stairway to Heaven] any justice” during live performances. Edit: Page doesn't need a double-neck to "go off". He does an excellent job of consistently doing just that, most often with a single neck because he always "meant business". They all did because individually, they were the best of the best, and as a band, they were entirely on the same wave length.

Because Led Zeppelin refused to release any songs as singles from any of their albums they lost out on any chance of billboard love. Having written that, they had complete creative control. From the albums to the concerts Zeppelin were the band that took the biggest $$$ not playing by the mainstream rules. That was Jimmy Page the guitarist, Peter Grant their manager and Peter Cole their tour manager. No opening acts and 3 and a half almost 4 hour shows from the mighty Zeppelin. I love your channel and your reactions.

Okay, so here’s the deal with the double-neck guitar and why Jimmy Page used it. It was not about ‘being able to wail during a guitar solo,’ which he could have done (and often did) just as easily with a standard electric guitar. The studio version of Stairway used several different layers of guitar. During the middle of it, Page switches to an acoustic 12-string guitar, which changes the sound/texture of the guitar part (from what the 6-string acoustic sounds like earlier). It gives this nice, full sound to that middle section. Then he switches to a 6-string electric for the solo/end of the song. Page wanted to be able to carry over those changes in sound and dynamics-a key part of the magic of this song-to live performances, but obviously didn’t have the luxury of switching back and forth between guitars a couple of times mid-song. The double-neck guitar allowed him to reasonably accomplish the same thing. He simply switched back and forth between the 6-string vs. 12 neck as he needed to. It’s not about needing a double-neck guitar to ‘wail,’ but about using it to quickly change the tone of the guitar mid-song without disrupting the flow of the performance. In the studio, LZ tended to layer sound and play with dynamics a lot in the studio (where Jimmy Page was a master), so the double-neck guitar was very useful live.

The Beastie Boys sampled more Led Zeppelin and John Bonham (drummer) beats than anyone. History is crazy amazing as you learn things. Jimmy the guitarist already knew the bass / keyboard player from before and was looking for a certain singer who turned them down but suggested they check out Robert Plant, who in turn knew John Bonham (that nobody wanted because he played to LOUD) - and was friends with Bill Ward the drummer from Black Sabbath who knew Toni the guitarist. They were looking for a singer...Ozzy wanted to try out but since he was in the same school as Toni and Toni never knew of Ozzy to be a singer they blew it off....then Ozzy showed up with Geezer lookin for a drummer and they all decided to give it a go finally. Five min into the first song they knew they had a band! Crazy fate

If you haven't already, same concert, check out the Song Remains the Same/Rain Song. It will further blow your mind. Zeppelin is the best. These 4 together are unmatched. Jimmy Page on the guitar, John Paul Jones on bass, keys, whatever they need, you have John Bonham on the drums, then Robert Plant on vocals. They always called Elvis the King of Rock N Roll, but these guys are the Gods of Rock N Roll.

My first date with my first wife was a Led Zepplin Stairway to Heaven concert. 15 years later I found out that my second wife was at the same concert with her first husband.
