The Varnus Organ Hall needs your help. We are asking the community's support to restoring and operating Varnus Hall, Canada's only private organ concert venue owned by Xaver Varnus, to provide a worthy home for organists, famous artists and young talent alike, from around the world to perform, and broadcast their concerts online. We are grateful to you if you can help our work with any donations. ca.gofundme.co...
Filmed live in concert in October 2003. The films of this concert that were completed but never released because the keyboard camera file has been damaged. As a speciality of the concert, the electrical console of the great Jemlich pipe organ was operated through the Content digital organ's MIDI cable.

Born in Budapest, his first piano teacher was Emma Németh, one of the last pupils of Claude Debussy. Xaver Varnus has played virtually every important organ in the world, including those in Bach's Thomaskirche in Leipzig (2014), Berliner Dom (2013), Notre-Dame (1981), Saint-Sulpice (2006) and Saint-Eustache (1996) in Paris, National Shrine in Washington, D.C. (1985), and Canterbury Cathedral (2004), as well as the largest existing instrument in the world, the Wanamaker Organ in Philadelphia (1985). His Quadruple Platinum Disc winning album From Ravel to Vangelis, released by Sony BMG in 2007, is the best-selling organ CD ever. As a Canadian citizen, Xaver Varnus resides in Berlin, Germany. "Put simply, Varnus is a monster talent, every bit as stimulating and individual as the late Glenn Gould" (The Globe & Mail, Canada's National Newspaper).

Very nice, Xaver. The Budapest Synagogue is such a great place. And back then in 2003 it must have been pretty fancy to operate a Church organ through a Content console. I bet, if you hadn't written it in the description some would have thought this great sound comes out of the Content :-), just to make some advertisement (I do own one :-) ). I like the camera angels. Thank you for taking us there to those who hadn't the opportunity to watch this great performance.

I think we can safely say it was a full house, standing room only! I've not seen that before at an organ recital.

THE FABULOUSLY RICH RECORDING of the organ, the organist , the notes AND the "room" are one thing the rhythm, lilting and repeated in the bass line and the way that seems to constantly resolve to anchor all the rest of the "ornamentation" I can hear , in many ways, a parallel to that construct in this clip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3rKlmWjjsmHqq8 in that cello suite prelude . . . the constant anchoring return/ repetition, as explained in the clip it shows so very much more about the music and the thinking of a man now-a-days considered a musical Genius. You'll enjoy / appreciate Bach a lot more

Listen to more of Xaver Varnus' performances, it's a characteristic of his. Somehow, while much slower than other performers, he never makes any piece sound boring (to me at least). Have a listen to his Tocatta and Fugue in D minor interpretation, he allows the instrument to breathe almost and allows every note to ring out in such a beautiful way.

He use the cathedral echo as a secondary sound and that make more powerful of the piece.

@@KugleeKuglee in my dialed in / treated ATMOS HT 7.4.6 in 5K cu. ft. The expert ear that knows what the room can add and Bach was writing exactly for these kinds of spaces , that let the music breath "there are exactly no more nor any less notes than are needed" (from the movie Amadeus)(?)

B&W filming is brilliant. It allows the music to contain all of the color, and projects the simple beauty of individuals clearly in love with that music. Bravo.

I wonder how that Console was linked up to the pipe organ. You could not have had had access to all the ranks. Was the original console undergoing restoration? Great to see an organ in a Synagogue. The only other big pipe organ I knoe of is in the big Reform Synagogue in London which has a fine 4 manual Harrison and Harrison.
