I am glad you ACTUALLY discussed purchasing the fabric based on height and body size. I just saw a video where all the viewers praised the girl making the cloak, but without proper sizing many will end up with a cloak that is to short, too long or too baggy for their shoulder width.

Thank you so much for this easy tutorial! My daughter wanted a cloak for her and a friend for a game they play. We didn’t have time to go get fleece fabric so we ended up using two fleece blankets and just made it mid calf length. Worked great! And was cheaper than buying by the yard. Plus it gave me an opportunity to teach my daughter how to use the sewing machine. Win win!

TYSM for this tutorial! Been saving this since last year or so, but finally made it today for my Red Riding Hood! (still gotta hand-stitch the neckline attachment tho haha, eating dinner now first) Very neat and efficient steps and explanations! I'm on budget so I only bought 2x1.5m of fabric, but this method still works very well. I folded the fabric like you told us to, then proceeded to cut the neckline first. After that I cut the hood parts on the other corner of the fabric, and bee-lining the leftover area drawing the cloak lines last (it's more like almost oval than rounded like yours). Also not sure with so many people mentioning or complaining about the 'no sewing required', this simple method clearly works and compatible with glue-ing too (not all patterns are). It's a clothing tutorial, not 'wrapping tutorial' 😂😂

I've followed this tutorial twice now. The first time was a year ago in February 2023; I made a black one out of a double-sided waterproof & fleece material, with a pointed hood and hook+eye fasteners. Today, I've followed it again - this time I've made a light grey one out of fairly thin wool, with a rounded hood and snap fasteners. I've yet to see how it performs outside or how long it'll hold out before needing repairs. I like your video, it's very good and really easy to follow compared to your competition. I found it amusing that other people have criticised you for sewing, when you've very clearly talked about the alternative 😂 I'm sort of experimenting with cloak materials - will I make one out of fleece, linen or anything else next? We'll see. Anyway, thanks for making this video - it's given me something to do! 😊

Thank you! I used this tutorial to make a cloak for my daughter for a Hufflepuff costume. It was so fast and turned out so well that my son wanted one for his costume. When it was done my other son was so excited that he wanted me to make one for him as well. I had enough leftover fabric to make ones for my other two sons... and I might have picked up enough fleece to make cloaks for my husband and I as well :P My second son has been wearing his everywhere and wondering why cloaks ever went out of style 😂

You can also hand-stitch the seams. I would use a forward one full stitch, back half stitch (stick needle midpoint in previous stitch) along the seam. If you’re using outerwear fleece, do not iron your seams. Just finger press. It also washes and dries beautifully.

Thank you so much! I followed this tutorial and made a cloak that I'm very excited about! It was my very first sewing project in my adult life! (One of my friend's parents was very kind to help me.) We used a fabric that frayed and was able to just sew a hem around the edges and then used pinking scissors for the seams along the top and back of the hood on the inside instead of using the bias tape. I will say the measure of collarbone to anklebone made the cloak slightly shorter than I would have liked; it went above my ankles once it was all complete - my bad for not testing before cutting. It also lays slightly longer in the front than it does in the back while wearing.

To determine which side of outerwear fleece is the outside or right side, pull it along the cut edge before you start, till it starts curling in on itself. Then think of the way your hand curls when you curl your fingers toward your palm. If it curls in on itself, like the inside of your palm, that’s the wrong side.

What's your angle? Are you trying to be funny or sarcastic. I mean obviously I want to know how to make a cloak because cloaks are awesome. I wish we all wore cloaks daily. Honestly I've never wore one outside of a one night stand cuz it was part of my Halloween costumes but I think they're tatally badass. They must give the lucky individual that is wearing it all kinds of security and comfort. Bet they are it's way better at making you feel that comfort level one gets in a nice zip up hoodie and a hoodie feels great. I always get exciter when I know it's almost hoodie time again even though I love summer. A hoodie feels good and wholesome like if you could make a a cup of hot cocoa with a dash of nutmeg in January after shoveling snow into a garment. A cloak though whoa it's gotta be even better, like a warm cup of cider with a sprinkle of cinnamon while your enjoying an apple doughnut you just witnessed the step by step process to getting made till it ends up worn and toasty in your hand at an orchard during a crisp autumn night as you ride a hayride through the HAUNTED TRAIL in all hallows eve and as you snugglepuppieuo to your companion who's skin is cold and soft as a rose petal as you sneak a kiss their cold nose burries into the nape of your warm neck sending chills all over your body. !!! Sorry.... that's what it'd be like to have a well fitted favorite cloak on I'd imagime. I don't even want to get into if you had Ike two layers with the one underneath being a zip- up, prolly have to take a cold shower after that, ha I mean am I right or am I right. Ha ha Ohhh ...well yup....that just hapoened...guess I'll get going it's been like 15 minutes and I'm just jabberin on all based on the fact that an attractive gal is commenting on cloaks and talking bout RF's it was like my mind smashed into a brick wall. That's why I asked if you were joking or trying to be sarcastic cuz it's just something that you don't see everyday. Hell ever not ever have I witnessed so many odd boxes being checked at the same time technically just 3 but still the trio is so random and I was just saying that I see you. Wish I knew where girls like you hung out in my area. Thank God there was no talk of Amish clothing cuz I would have lost my mind then lol jk but not really it's a beautiful strange world out there when people are just doing what they want without the worries of fitting in or trying to conform with society. I mean if you were in a crowded place made a loud and stern announcement the sound a 180 in a cloak while simultaneously throwing your hood on as you briskly exit the soace. Boom! That would be the best thing that happened in clothing since we finally let women wear pants. Poor Joan of Arc such a shame when religion gets all murdery with their sytem and rules. Why sometimes it's like what if we all just accepted things based on concrete facts up to this point and we had no bizarre crazy belief systems to drive us apart. I know one thing for sure as I wrap this up in a world like that we all wear cloaks and that's that. Have a wonderful life.

@GuidingBoltGaming11 ай бұрын
I'm not sure I follow your question since the 5 minute mark in the video is talking about the hood, not the bottom of the cloak. If you feel a different shape/size would be better, go for it. That's the beauty of these things. You can make them to your preference. If you want to test first, go grab an old sheet from a second hand store as cheap fabric to test with.

I really think cloaks need to come back in style. I don't know why they haven't. They are cool looking, easy to wear and comfortable for cool weather.

The chair/ladder holding down the fabric was a smart idea. I gotta ask, is your channel name a double play on both sewing and Dungeons & Dragons? I at first thought of the spell name Guilding Bolt but then thought no, that's silly. We buy fabric by the bolt. If I guessed correctly though, very clever!

You're right. It's totally a double play but it actually was originally just for D&D.
