Fun fact for anyone doing this with a warlock: The imps singe magic ability can dispell the debuffs off of the tanks, causing the corruption to just go nowhere.

So, the secret tip for this boss. Always bring a third tank (if your raid size makes it possible). It makes this fight a cakewalk. During Phase 1, have whatever tank is dreaming on add pickup duty. The corruption he does will just be soaked by the dream and the tanks that need to be dispelled have a lot more breathing room. This way it's not even a problem if a second add spawns in phase 1. During Phase 2 and 3 the 3 tank strategy provides you a ton of breathing room. The corruption now spreads between 3 tanks, giving you plenty more time. Furthermore, you can continue to swap at 3 stacks of the debuff and simply let the debuff on tank 1 run out while tank 3 tanks the boss.

Thanks for the video. Guild had issues with healers being mind controlled because they wouldn't let the dreaming healers cleanse and the tanks weren't running out to drop their debuff outside of melee. Instead, the tanks stood in and the healers outside of the dreaming were cleansing (20 corruption each time, I think) repeatedly.

Why again exactly is it Blizzard's fault that pots are expensive when it's the players that set the economy? Prices are higher at the start of an xpac, it's just a fact of life. If you feel you're gold starved, then obviously you're not doing world quests, follower missions or even questing because it is raining currency all over the place...

Mate, the prices for pots are out of this world atm, as well as for flasks and Starlight Rose. Flasks currently cost 2K+ each and pots are creeping closer to 1K each. And don't even think about Starlight Rose; 450g+ a piece, sometimes sold in stacks of 200 costing 60K+.So yeah, might not be Blizzard's fault but it's near impossible to drive the prices down atm. I have decent amount of gold, but I am not fan of spending 18K or more each week for flasks.

Fundamentally, the quantity of materials (especially rare spawn materials) and of items you have to purchase from the NPC vendors ensure that the price is always going to be high. It takes so long to farm them, that either people won't bother, or will reflect the time taken in the price. In WoD and Pandaria, we had farms that players could invest in, to produce materials, thus gradually over time, the price would drop. In Legion there is no equivalent. I appreciate the comment on gold generation, but having to grind out gold can make it feel like a job, not a pleasure. As commented below, Pots are hitting 1K, and you typically need 2 per pull. Not per hour, per pull.

Kind of is when each you can only collect 1 Starlight rose at a time, pots cost 2 per recipe, rank 3 takes an enormous amount of crafting and you need something like 60 pots for a raid night (depending on the frequency of your pulls and the length of the night) per raider. Once rank 3 comes out and more people pick up herbalism it will be better, but a reduction in Starlight rose cost or an increase in Starlight rose drop rate would really, really help get me into the 4th raiding week.

The other unique thing to me and the other hunters in my guild, is that we see the corruption bar in our focus bar, so we can never see how much focus we have while in battle against Xavius. Also the corruption bar always quickly reduced back to 0 after not getting corrupted within 5 seconds of being corrupted.

instead of 2 stacks (for timer purposes), you can just do 2 swaps with 4 stacks, that way you save 1 dispell for your healers before the add spawns

We did Xavius first time on normal yesturday with our non-progression team. Usually we talk about tactics before the pull, but raid leader decided to go ahaed and pull once without discussing it, so that people would get an idea, and thus easier understand what was being explained before the proper pull. That idea failed. To our surprise we killed him on the first try, without doing the fight properly. (That won't work tonight on heroic though, I'm sure, lol) ^^

That's because you want to get to phase 2 before a second add spawns or dream state runs out, otherwise you're fucked. Phase 3 should not be that difficult anyways

You want to get Phase 1 completed before a second Horror spawns. If your raid can do that without Bloodlust, you can lust on the burn phase.

Dont get why they are saying its very important to push before 2nd add. We had 2 adds and still didnt have tank mindcontrolled when not using BL in p1. Our kill was 2 tanks, 5 healers, 14 dps (21 players) on 25th September, Heroic mode ofc. What we did instead was BL in p2 to from 45-30% basicily to make everyone gain less corruption before burn phase, This resulted in a very clean kill (Like 4 wipes total).

Any suggestions on how to gain more corruption as a melee dps dreaming in Phase 1? Soaking the corruption from the Horror's novas doesn't seem to be enough, and our ranged dps grab all the fixating adds that spawn on them. I know I can use a defensive cooldown like AMS to get some corruption from the Horror's swipe every minute or so, but I'd still be putting extra strain on my healers. Any tips on what I may be missing?

I faced the same problem and ended up just saying fuck it. The effort it takes to hit 100 in p1 as a melee is just not worth it for the loss in up time on boss and strain on the healers. Honestly if everyone in the raid is doing mechanics correctly, I have found it difficult to get 100 corruption in p2 as well, the puddles do not give much if multiple people are soaking them as happens with my raid group. The only people we had that consistently went insane during our pulls and kill this week were the healers and the tanks, everyone else it was really just random luck, especially for the melee. Right now I think the damage bonus part of it is just a nice little gimick. I suspect it will be something we have to actually use in mythic.

In order to maximize this mechanic we had someone calling, who will soak all the corruptions. Each add gives you 30 corruptions, so in 2 set of adds you will be insane. So on phase one tell everyone to go away from the adds so that the assigned player can soak all the corruptions himself. Hope that helped!

P1 is really hard to go insane as a melee unless youre highly mobile. I play a warrior and I was only able to get insane twice in the 10 pulls I had on Xavius. Its honestly just better to let a Dream State Range Dps soak the lurkers and go insane, as a melee we just lose too much dps trying to go insane.

For the blades on Xavius, do you need to stand a certain way or face for the blade to hit? Vertical/horizontal etc etc.

Two people get linked, if you face each other, that way it is going to go. Speaking so to say, "infront and behind you" when you guys look at each other would be the path of that axe. For normal, this is very little damage to deal with, altough it knocks back players so DPS drops are guaranteed.

you say to take 6 stacks of blackening soul well that seems impossible to me, I'm a prot paladin and I like to think I'm a decent tank ( using correct CDs appropriately etc) but when I tried to go to 6 stacks last raid my healers could not keep me up at all ( we are a 12 man group), is this just a healing problem or is this fight just harder on smaller teams and therefore I can't go to the 6 stacks.

Ah... Just tried this guy earlier, after oneshotting our way to him. Couldn't work out why our tanks were getting MURDERED... I think our healers were dispelling at totally the wrong time (they'd been doing this all freakin night) and the tank with the 150% melee damage increase was getting hit. Our healers are super stupid.

It MUST be complicated. I have tried, and I should say it was even HARDER than Cenarius. Well, I mean only in heroic mode. Normal Xavius is pretty easy.

Heroic is pretty much the same, the main differences is the radius for the p1 tank dispel is larger i p1, and the small adds in p1 cause more corruption when soaked. Then in p2 the horrors seem to spawn more frequently. Maybe a few other little tweaks to existing mechanics, but the mechanics themselves are exactly the same as normal.

+phiefer3 I get your point, it is true that the mechanics themselves are same. But Heroic Xavius has much more health than the normal one which means the battle will be extremely long. (at least I felt the thing was like that) Fighting against normal Xavius you can make mistakes since you will kill him soon. Heroic Xavius? Once you make mistake then everything will be messed up.
