The word Swahili comes from the Arabic word سواحل (coast). The Swahili Coast refers to the coastal area from Mogadishu in Southern Somalia to northern Mozambique. Swahili culture first took root in Southern Somalia, in cities such as Brava. Even the Swahili language originated there. In the Bravanese language, Chimiini, Mkate means cake while Maashara and Siiniya are Arabic words which mean the large bowl in which the cake was served. Somalia is diverse, and Somalis possess a rich culture

Thank you so much for the nice comment. There are 3 3/4 cups in the bag. Here is a recipe for ma'ashara without eggs: 1 packet (400g) rice flour 1/4 tsp baking powder 2 cups (400g) sugar 3 1/2 cups water 1 1/2 tsp instant dry yeast 1/2 tsp cardamom Mix the yeast & 1/4 cup water. Make the syrup: boil the sugar with 2 cups of water. Mix the rice flour with the remaining water. Add the boiling syrup to the rice mixture. Let it cool down. Add the yeast and baking powder. Let it ferment for 3 hours.

@Wanjiku94 Yes, both of us speak a dialect of Swahili called Chimbalazi or Chimiini. We are Bravanese SOMALIS. In our website we mentioned that we will also feature recipes from neighbouring countries. So stay tuned for Swahili recipes and music. The song in this video is in Chimbalazi (Bravanese).
