This is shaping up to be an awesome restore series Phil. I'm really glad you went to video instead of still photos, you're a natural in front of the camera!! ... MUCH more informative and entertaining than the still pics mate. Between you and Peter Anderson I'm getting plenty of enjoyable Australian Car Restoration videos. Keep up the great work Phil, and happy to subscribe to your new channel.

Saw a tip elsewhere to centre punch the spot welds before using that drill bit on them. Enjoying your vids mate.
@projectxb8 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate! The positive response makes it worth while! Yes, I was center punching them - using an auto punch - you see me use it in the vid before drilling. I have a link in the description, they are a handy bit of kit and a lot easier to use than the ol hammer and punch!

I cant get the audio working on this video but anyway , keep up the good work mate I am impressed with you attitude to tackle this rebuild even drill out the spot welds its one sure way to get to the rust and do great repairs another Aussie having a go restoring fords is Peter Anderson also on You Tube he has a wealth of knowledge we can learn a lot from Peter anyway will follow your progress with your XB there is nothing like a classic ford with the bulletproof 351 and 9" diff still eating holdens for breakfast today go FORD go harder

Thanks for the reply! I changed some of the settings so hopefully the audio is working now. Yes I am a huge fan of Pete Anderson, his videos are absolutely brilliant and have watched every one of them!

Nice Vid mate i started watching at 6 views but it had no audio then so i came back to check, i currently have the plenum off on my xy ute. Im in the process of making plates at the moment as mine is getting an RRS under dash booster to compliment the RRS rack and pinion. Thanks for the inspiration to get back in the shed mate.
@projectxb8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Glad I have been of inspiration... It was other vids on here that inspired me, so this is my way of returning the favour / paying it forward. Be sure to send me a link to your project if you document it!
@rustynutzz35048 жыл бұрын
+Project XB Peter Anderson was my original inspiration to do more but due to the fact that you are working on exactly the same problem that i am currently working on ie plenum i loved this video. i just wish i had the same type of spot weld bit you are using as the one my panel beater mate have me was one of the old style ones. But yeah how good is trefolex. my plenum did not come off as clean as yours did. I had to use an air chisel for fucks sake. After the plenum ive got torque boxes and front sill sections to do. Thanks again Mate.

+Rusty Nutzz then it goes on the rotisserie. I already have a 393 stroker Cleveland with custom pavtek roller cam and stud girdle and alloy 4v heads built ready to go as well as a Tremec tko 600 5 speed, 31 spline detroit locker 9 inch waiting to go.
@projectxb8 жыл бұрын
Oh man, that sounds like a killer engine and trans setup! I am actually aiming for a 393 stroker similar setup to you. Far out man, your XY is going to be a weapon!

+Project XB all on Bathurst globes 205s so its going to just SMASH tyres i hope to get out to power cruise at eastern creek and do some killer drifting in the thing. but i could not be bothered filming the build as its already half done. but keep up the good work mate. If you bother to look at my channel you can just see it in the background of my dune cops video, silver with an orange strip. yeah i know another gt replica, but fuck it i like em. shaker and all.

You can get another type of spot weld drill, it's an actual drill bit that's flat at the top and it takes all the material out of the top of the spot weld. You just need to be carefull not to drill completely through the lower sheet metal. They're made by "alpha".
@projectxb8 жыл бұрын
Yes I saw some of those when I was looking for one... very similar type of thing :-)
@Cinda048 жыл бұрын
Great stuff mate. U planning on getting car media blasted as well?
@projectxb8 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes, I will be doing the media blasting myself when I am done with the metalwork
