plugins are great for a bunch of situations but anything software based can have issues as computer operating systems progress. How many plugins didnt work with the M-1 and M-2 OS. tons! many have since been updated but will they be updated indefinetaly? doubtful. its software. When you have a real amp and real cab its real.

agree real amps and cabs have a different presence in the room for sure. but i have been using a helix with powercab+ as my main aamp for several years now. it does everything i need and is extremely tunable. if you spend some time and fine tune a good modeler the tones really are very good

I’v fought with a Roadster 2x12 Combo for 4 years and gave up. This thing could not sound tight without an OD in front of it. I had the pleasure of playing through various KSR amps and if they were more easily available in Europe, I’d probably get one. Fantastic sounding amps.

This should show everyone that speakers, how the cabinet is built, what type of wood the cabinet is built out of, and the types of speakers in the speaker cabinet has a bigger impact on your over all TONE per day, than your guitar and pick ups in your guitar. Yes, also having a great, high gain amp makes a difference, but I feel what makes the biggest difference is the types of speakers and cabinets. Oh, and I favored the KSR ( Rhodes) through the Emperor cabinet best!!

if you want a better tone swap the first preamp tube in the channel youre using to a nos mullard i63. you can improve the tone by swapping all the tubes to nos but it's very expensive and hard to find marched quads etc. ive upgraded more than 30 amps using old mullards they give the best overdrive because of their low mid boost. enjoy!
@heythere6983 Жыл бұрын
turned to p90s and bought a few p90’guiters bc the guitars I played always seemed to have too much of a spikey top end and lacking midrange clarity . I always had issues eqing clarity without getting harsh, or taming harshness without getting too dark and thuddy. P90s basically fixed that . Then a couple years later I realized its a Gibson pickup thing. They have bloated bottom and a lot of lift in the high with a mellow midrange . Kinda like a 6l6. You reminded me when you mentioned the top end on your 498t. Funnily it sounded the darker thank the others too , bc of that Gibson dark low end tone. The other guitars sounds more focused . That being said , recording the Gibson humbucker guitars I have, I enjoyed the high end once recorded , in real life it’s weird bc if I get the high end tame then everything else is too dark for me, atleast that’s how it feels In the room . But the high end cuts nicely in recording if you’re eqing according to recording tone and not trying to save your ears

I wonder if the Rhodes uses .68uf bypass caps on the Cathodes instead of 1uf on the SLO. 0:42 - I've hit that wall last week. Yes, 100% right that GAS'ing - for me at least - comes in waves. I think it's the minds way of breaking that unhealthy locked state of single-minded thinking by making people 'burn-out' - so to speak - over what ever it is that they're constantly thinking about. Edit: 1) What I took from this, is to avoid MESA cabinets:) I don't like that fact it masked the amps natural tonal characteristics. I loved this in-the-room test because I'm able to hear the differences with more clarity myself. 2) One thing: when you stepped away from the amps and moved about slightly - as you're playing - the tone of the amps changed. I'm assuming the microphone was behind you? Perhaps the microphone is best located between the cabinets and yourself.

Yea. The Rhodes/ksr is very focused and the midrange is growly and aggressive. The mesa is fkn badass tho. You know how much space that roadster would chew up live in a 4 piece? The rhodes would come flying through the mix like a fist but only the mids. The soldano, ehhhh, never have cared for them.
@heythere6983 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I just recently played a soldano. Idk. I don’t love amps that fee they lack body. Felt too flat to me . Yeah you gotta find something that fits well with your band. Tone chasing is every guitarist’s curse. Dimebag has been my hero since 1992; I’m an 80’s thrash metal guy but never thought I could play that stuff. Then Nirvana came around and I could play that stuff; then I heard Pantera and my world was blown. I forced myself to learn Pantera which lead me to learn Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and much more. So I chased the Dimebag sound for two decades and when I finally had all his gear I found I didn’t have his hands. That is where 66.6% of your sound comes from. I’ve had Peavey, Marshall, Line 6, Crate, Blackstar, Randall and finally PRS. So much gear I have gone through to finally have the simplest and best sounding rig: ESP EC-1000 with Evertune bridge and Seymour Duncan Dimebucker, PRS MT-15 w/ ISP Decimator Maxon OD808 in line and Noisegate Sonic Stomp in the FX loop, two 1x12 PRS MT cabinets loaded with Eminence DV-77 speakers, Ernie Ball slinky strings 10-46 and James Hetfield picks. Seems like a lot as I write this but this is the least amount amount of gear I have gigged with and my sound is killer. And it’s my sound! Good luck to the lost and wondering guitarist that just can’t find that sound they want.
