Egnaters can sound good, as exemplified in this video! However, most of their amps (tourmaster, renegade, tweaker) have a lot of features that entail a good deal of PCB and digital parts. If you live in an area where you don't have an authorized Egnater tech or someone who is willing to work on unorthodox designs it can be tough to get them repaired sometimes.

The 4100 is an amp that always bums me out. Sounds great, has a ton if great features, but man.. the egnater reliability issues. I tried to buy a vengeance from GC, called them and they said it shouldn't have been listed since it's broken. Eventually found a 4100, the seller said the reverb didn't work. So I did a quick search for common reverb issues and there's just a laundry list of issues. Amps blowing multiple transformers, burned resistors, burned boards, inexplicably blowing fuses. I always wanted one but by all accounts I'm buying a time bomb.

i totally agree with your conclusion! it's a great sounding amp with tons of options but isn't a real modern metal amp. It lacks in tightness and openess in the high frequency. maybe with an overdrive in front of it It could be metal amp as you told. great video as Always. Thanks from Italy 🤟

What I'm learning from these videos and also on my own is that if you like dad rock just as much as metal, a dad rock amp plus an od pedal is a great option. Hey Kyle how about a Mark IV or V Boogie review. I would think you would like the Mark series amps but I don’t recall you mentioning them or a demo. Yeah that’s an ugly looking amp but with some knurled or even those same knobs but in black and a black grill cloth or tan basket weave even it might look pretty cool. I’ve always thought Engnater amps look kind of cheap, I don’t know, that one appears to be built good enough.

I agree the Renegade is a monstrous amp. Mine is the combo with a g12m-65 creamback and the tone is full and huge, but it needs a boost pedal (like mxr sugar drive) for extra push. It doesn't need tightness just more gain. I have the presence control at almost max however cause the speaker I have is quite dark. It's unique and sounds great for basically every genre. There's no such thing as a "metal" vs. "non-metal" amp -- just amps with a number of gain stages that you can use for metal (most "metal" amps are just black-panel Fenders with said extra stages).
