I remember back when I was around 16, I got the red ring of death and did a DIY fix where I tore the case open breaking a few of the clips, then put two pennies wrapped in electrical tape in place of the old thermal pads, then put it back together and it worked like a charm 😃😃haha This method in video looks much more clean and professional, and I'd take this route now as an adult, but it was fun to think back on!

Do not use washers for the cpu or gpu. They do fix it but they do it in a way that will destroy the console. They pull the cpu or gpu back into the solder balls but with the amount of heat produced this will flex the board. When it flexes, the cpu or gpu can't move and it will damage the motherboard around there and can kill the board. Also some gpus and cpus are fully dead and the washers won't work. You will have to get a new one or send it to someone who knows how to replace the cpu or gpu.
@MrBioniclefan1 Жыл бұрын
yep and the x-clamps are needed to keep the board from flexing around the cpu and gpu. although I could have idea wrong.

I'm a frequent gaming PC builder. I've bought both the PS3 and Xbox 360 Slim versions. I took them both apart as soon as I bought them. Buy some ''Antec Formula 7'' Thermal paste. Do NOT apply the Thermal Paste the way she does in the video. Just apply a small pea size amount in the center of the chips. Then fix the HS (Heatsink) down. Also, you should 'lap' or polish the HS where they contact the chips. Steel wool works great, just rub the HS in a single direction until you get a mirror finish.

PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS GUIDE TO FIX YOUR XBOX 360!!! The reason why it's because the bolt mod will make things worse by literally warping the motherboard so much and you will do more damage to console than not doing this mod at all. The real solution is to replace the GPU as the GPU on the early models used low tg underfill instead of high tg underfill which after some thermal cycles the GPU would fail because the low tg underfill would regularly soften during normal use(WHICH SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN) as it wasn't meant for chips that ran as hot as the 360's GPU did and would cause the microscopic solder bumps to crack as the sillicon and substrate that it sits on would expand during normal use. Replacing the GPU with a known reliable one will solve this problem. This same issue affected early fat PS3s. Before you do anything to your Xbox 360, PLEASE grab the secondary error code as thay will help you find out what is exactly wrong with your console!

@xXDEICIDE216Xx The center pressure is the reason the motherboard in the 360 warps causing the BGA failure. When MS was testing the heat endurance, they concluded that the heat was well below the limits of the GPU/CPU Failure threshold. HOWEVER, they did not consider the constant heating and cooling cycle that is common with consoles (being turned on and off regularly) and the effects that this would have on the motherboard as far as warping over time.

I recently picked up an xbox 360 that was refurbished by Gamestop. Fans were loud so I opened the console to clean fans and heatsinks. Also wanted to apply new thermal paste. To my surprise, the fans were loud because they tapped into the dvd drive cable and performed a 12v fan mod which makes the fans always run on high. Here's my question though... The biggest issue with fixing a console (or any computer, really) is just dealing with the sheer amount of variables involved with troubleshooting. RROD? Which code? When did it first happen? What happened just before the console shut down? what did the code search reveal as a possible suspect? Is it fixable? How involved will the repair be? These and many more questions brought to you by some punk kid in the Rocky Mountains, with an Xbox throwing E10 and E71.

I use forums spanning across the entire internet and cross analyzing what information they have, then see if the result is applicable to my situation. Puffing your chest at people on the internet about military grade repairs when discussing cheap mass produced electronics is over qualification and overcompensation to the extreme.
