Xbox 360 Slim - Power Issue Easy Fix

The capacitor that you are looking to remove is labeled as C5/C57 (it sits between two black chips to where I point on the RF board and it is in a grey/brown colour). I'm apologize for the bad lighting, I just wish I'd of made this a bit more clear at a sooner stage! 😁

This fix worked, my xbox360 would not turn on , and the power supply was good. I dismantled it , removing the front panel and when I plugged it in, the capacitor was so hot I couldn't touch it . I simply pried the capacitor off with my jewellers screwdriver and it fired up right away. Many thanks .

I gave this a try and it worked great! I picked up a non-working Xbox for $10 and tore it down and gave this a try. I did go ahead and order the complete board to do the permanent fix, but this is a great quick fix and I''ll just save the board and mark it for diagnostic purposes since I do a lot of console cleaning and reconditioning. Bought a brand new Xbox 360 slim Gears of War edition off of eBay (in October 2018). Did an unboxing on my channel and all. Then today I ran into this situation where I couldn't get ANY power. Did EVERYTHING to troubleshoot and nothing worked. I even called Xbox but they no longer support repairs on 360 consoles. So I was pretty much out of luck. Then I stumbled across this video. I had pretty much thought that the console was trash. But I knocked off that little piece the same way you did in this video and to my surprise, IT WORKED!!!! So thank you for posting this bro. It really helped me out and saved me some time and money. I used a small pair of scissors to remove it. Console works just fine.

Thanks so much mate looked forever to find a fix for my Star Wars Xbox. Can confirm pulling the C5 capacitor off with needle nosed pliers seems to have resurrected my Xbox. Same circumstance - I had left it unused and unpowered for six months, then when setting up had solid orange light on brick but no response from controller, eject, or power. This fix worked for me exactly as described.

Thank you for posting this! After trying multiple powerbricks this did the trick! Took longer than I wanted to remove the casing but worked like a charm. I used a small screwdriver as well to push off the capacitor. I can't believe that worked! Been looking forward to introducing my kids to video games and hadn't touched this console for years...amazing!

worked for me ! thanks !! xbox had been in the attic for several years after it suddenly stopped working. this morning, i tried to bring it in and ask for help at the local game shop where they simply told me i should upgrade to the One... Decided to go back home and mess with it myself because it was already broken anyway. Stumbled upon this 3 minute youtube tutorial, decided to give it a go and voila... i'm back to gaming. I simply pried out the component with my leatherman which took little to no effort (these are obviously not the tools to do a neat job. desoldering and replacing the capacitator with a working one would be a load better but since i don't own of thise tools i decided to go caveman style) ... still can't believe this actually worked... the whole process took me under 1,5 hours ... and i'm not the handiest one out there...

Fella, I couldn't see what you removed so looked elsewhere. My issue turned out to be the power brick needing a reset..... Perhaps tell people to try that first. Just unplug and separate the parts completely. Plug into Xbox first then connect to brick before plug into mains.......worked a treat...

The purpose of this video was to show you the method that worked for me. I did mention that I tried a different power brick, checked the USB ports, etc. This method has worked for other people, it just turned out that you had a power supply issue.

Worked for me. It’s a c57 capacitor on a chip. In other video the guy used soldering iron it remove it, but you don’t need it. It comes off with a push from a small flat screw driver super easy.

That's amazing! Nothing that I am aware as there is so little about this out on the internet, but as today my Xbox 360 S console is still going really strong! :D If a little uncomfortable though, you could replace it, but I've not seen the reason to do so! :)

Maybe, it's hard to say. It's a capacitor so it's job is to smooth out the DC which powers the capacitive power switch. It's likely unable to charge or discharge properly which is why nothing happens when it's still in there. Capacitive buttons on a game console are ludicrously stupid, and even more so because of how big it is. The capacitor is likely damaged from too much moisture in the power button causing it to register pressed way to frequents which makes it have to work in a constant way in which it wasnt designed for and then it fails. This method likely works because removing it allows the DC to just go directly to the board. The DC is no longer being smoothed out so it's vulnerable to fluctuations in power. It's hard to say what might happen. Could fry the board the button is on, might be small enough to not matter. Best way is to just solder a new one on. It'll cost like a dollar.

Usually a capacitor flows current to important components when a capacitor fails no current flows. Same as removing component. System Should Not work with good capacitor removed or failed capacitor installed . Nuff Said

For me, the capacitor just pulled off very easily with a pair of tweezers. It was as if it wasn't attached very firmly to the board at all. I hope this helps! :)

I recently got a new kitty (Simon), and he's a crazy little bastard, he likes to chew the wires of my Xbox.... and today out of nowhere the Xbox stopped working, all the wires look fine, I don't know if he had anything to do with it but all I know is that I can't play my game until I fix this.

Mine won't turn on wi to. Utton and eject tray will work when powering up but when at home screen eject button won't work at all but I. Can turn it on with the controller

Hmmm... that sounds like a dodgy power button to me. 🤔 So the RF board might need replacing, but I can't be too sure sorry.

No worries dude! Even 6 months later the console still works perfectly fine and I have had no problems with it. I would still to this day highly recommend this tutorial to anybody with the same fault on their Xbox 360 consoles to try this. :-)

I removed mine and it still works totally fine to this day! I managed to take mine apart just using a screwdriver (link to a video disassembling the console using this method in the video description). Also you can actually remove the capacitor with a pair of tweezers, it's that easy to remove. Just be careful though as the purpose of this video is only to show you guys that doing this worked for me, so I cannot take any responsibility for any damages done to your console attempting this.

the problem with my xbox is that when i turn it on whether by the power button the eject button or the controller it responds to that and turns on but it s only the green light in the muddle that turns on (the cooler is working normally) but i see nothing on the screen nit the xbox welcoming or the menu before this problem happened i way playing a game when suddenly it freezed when i rebooted it i had this problem

The video port went out replace the video port on the console then it should work fine afterwards i had the same problem with my modded xbox 360 but after i replaced it that didn't happen again and it should help with lag has well

Followed the instructions and removed the capacitor... Xbox 360 turned on and connected to a controller but shut off after about a minute and won't turn on again 😕

I believe the screwed covered by the "Warranty void if broken" sticker is the only one on the back, but I'm not too sure if this can fix it anyway, as I've never had that issue, sorry! :/

Sadly I won't be able to help you with that as I've never had that issue. Perhaps it could be an issue with the power brick? Could you by any chance try a different one to see if that fixes your problem??? :)

I think I recall that happening to my console at one point, but simply re-plugging the power brick fixed it. However you've already said that you swapped the power brick, so that obviously won't fix it. :/ All else I can suggest is to check your USB ports too if they could possibly be shorting (as that can be the cause of the same problem that you have just described) or maybe you could try cleaning the power button module??? :)

I just came in to thank you very much for making my daughter happy for her xbox, it made it work again after it looked bricked dead. The charger was good but the capacitor you mentioned was busted. I just used some pliers, ripped it out and works perfectly, as brand new. YOU ARE AWESOME!!!
