That is crazy cool! There was a thread over at PSX-Place that a modder purchased and took apart and discovered the same type of mod to create the ultimate phat PS3 with 65NM processor and retaining ull BC with PS2 games..

Wow it's finally done! Great work! I have a question for you. I have a Jtag Zenon running blades dash 5759 with a dying GPU. Would it be possible to put a Kronos 65nm GPU on it with the current dash or would I have to update to 6717 in order for it to work?

You have to put 6717 afaik. I don't know exactly when support was added.

At some point, it will be hard to find the reliable chips for the Xenon and Zephyr and Falcon. The new old stock Korean and fixed Taiwan will run out. There are way more Jasper chips available since they don't fail, so this might eventually be useful. But more like, because I wanted to know if it could be done. Keeps noise and power usage down too.

Are you planning to run RGH on this? If not, don't bother, put RHEA with trace mod or Elpis/Fixed Y1. Due to the Type 1 problem. Also pls do many practice before attempting a big project because BGA rework takes a lot of time to learn.

In your opinion is it worth re-capping a X817791 korea gpu xenon from 2006? It must've been sent in for RRoD. Needs all new caps. Some have vented through the top while one seems to of let the magic smoke out. Haven't powered it on yet aside from giving it 5v for standby to dump the nand. With the nand dump I think its on kinect dash.

Yes. X817791 is reliable. 6.3v 2200uF parts. (Some xenons used 2700s, it doesn't matter, both values are far over the needed spec, just use 2200s).

I don't think it did any damage though. Have since desoldered the input caps. Waiting for the kit to go further.

I hope to one day perform this swap on my dead Xenon. How can I tell if I have a Type 2 KV? There's glue around the CPU and GPU, which from what I've read was not on the original launch units.

Glue was added by some manufacturers in 2006. You need to dump nand to know and decrypt. Unless it is a MS Refurb it will have type 1.

The GPU model does not affect exploitability. You would have to blow the CB LDV to 5 though to run the Jasper JTAG bootloaders.

Reballing not fix it yes. best solution to change to X817791 which is the fixed Y1 GPU or X819195 which is the Elpis fixed 80nm GPU for Xenon.

@@L0tsen In my experience RGH3 are very much reliable on Jasper and Falcon motherboards, and it doesn't require a specific dashboard revision. I believe there is no point of even wanting to swap the CPUs between Jasper and Xenon motherboards. Also the Jasper CPU consumes far less power than the Xenon CPU, and the board is very much designed to account for that. That is why there are so many capacitors and voltage regulators missing from the Jasper motherboards that are there on the Xenon motherboards. Also you would need to install the Xenon CPU cooler and mod the fans onto the Jasper motherboard. Overall, even if they were pin compatible, it would not be worth it to try to swap them.
