So on the Baldur Gate 3 stuff, was incredibly surprised to see it launch as Steam Deck playable and a few hours later get Steam Deck verified. Don't have a strong dedicated PC or laptop but that made me immediately pick it up on Steam. Haven't played much but it runs pretty well. I really don't think the Series S is an issue at all, but considering the S and how games this generation have gone I really feel like the PS5 AND Xbox Series X|S need to allow for more user customization for game performance and a wider range of performance profiles. Console games should 100% be download and play (no effort needed), but for gamers that want to put in the effort they should be able to tweak settings for better more consistent framerate performance or lower power consumption or whatever. Also KILLER INSTINCT BABY!!! 2023 is really just the year for fighting games and I don't know why but I love it (even as someone whose trash at them and only buy them on sale 😂).

It wasn't the Black isle team going to Bioware, it was Bioware that made both Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2. Black Isle might've helped out but the D&D games they made were Icewind Dale and Icewind Dale 2.

I left YT on autoplay and woke up to a real hot take...I'm thinking someone's losing that bet, I don't see Starfield breaking concurrent player records, much less hitting a million by this weekend. I'd be sad about it, I really thought I'd be the most hyped about Starfield if you asked me a year ago, but I'll dry my tears with BG3. I only just finished Act 2, and this game makes me wonder if we'll ever see anything better than this. I'm not even sure Larian can top themselves, but I'm excited to see them try.

In regards to Baldurs Gate 3 lack of ads, sure, it's doing very well regardless but it is still kinda niche, as big as it seems to be right now. And it had years of early access building word of mouth. What i'm trying to say, if Starfield sells as much as BG3, that will be a disappointment, i believe. I'm just pulling numbers out of my rear but i'd say BG3 looks like a 5-10m units seller whereas Starfield should be in the 20-30m range (gamepass might skew that somewhat but at least in terms of mindshare it should be this big). Bethesda used to run TV ads and all that jazz for their big stuff (and other publishes still do that to this day), it would be somewhat weird not doing any mainstream ads for their biggest game in years.

I think you underestimate the amount of people on the fence about preordering Starfield. I was thinking I would easily preorder it sometime this month even though most my hype has been leading towards BG3 over the past few years. I always try to preorder single player RPGs, tho, to show support for my fave genre that upper level suits in the industry like to say are dead, but I might wait for once to see how things play out. I do want Starfield to succeed, because the last thing this genre needs is a new version of Fallout 76, Andromeda or Anthem.

Would love to talk to Rand and Jez about marketing, because they completely missed the point. How many casuals do you think know about Baldur Gate 3? Not a lot. Marketing with billboards, tv ads, KZbin and Twitch ads is not for the hardcore gamer, it’s to create excitement, hype, buzz amongst the casuals and create positive mindshare. Mindshare and perception amongst casual gamers is exactly where Xbox is the weakest.

@@destro3938 I’ve been gaming since the 80’s so I’m well adverse to the Sega/Nintendo wars back then and you are right, back then there was nowhere near the levels of toxicity we see from the Pony fan base we see today and back then neither company was making 3rd party games exclusive or asking for parity or paying to keep games off Gamepass. PS took console wars to a whole new level and they turned the media into their shills. My local Wal-Mart and best buy have more series x and ps5 than series s. So in my area there's a good stock on the series x. Although I've been seeing like 5 or 4 series x and ps5 each in each store for a couple of weeks. Doesn't seem people are buying these consoles cuz of economic problems in my area

Well red dead redemption was one of the game of the generation while losing to god of war during the year. But god of war ended up being a nothing burger, while red dead was game of the gen. Starfield doesn’t need to win best rpg of the year when it might be game of the generation. Baldur’s gate would never be game of the gen, maybe if the year and some good recentsies bias

The biggest obvious difference between BG3 and Starfield is Larian is known so far as being reliable and they offer regular community updates. Like ffxiv, there's a lot more direct communication with their customers. Meanwhile, Bethesda has a lot of goodwill they need to earn back and while the 45 minute showcase made me feel a bit better about the state of the game, I'm not quite convinced I'll preorder it and I typically preorder any somewhat decent single player RPG because we get so few of them anymore.

It's only been two games that don't have 60fps this year. HiFi Rush is 60fps and Forza Motorsport will be 60fps. But I don't blame you for going with PC. I moved on from console this gen because I'm guaranteed 60fps on PC. Even if I got to lower settings. That's what attracted me to PC was having full control of the settings to achieve what I want the game to look and feel like. Edit: If you do build a PC don't go with a GPU that's 8GB VRAM. I would recommend 12GB at the least.

Dear God no. The console market is bad enough as is with it's walled gardens, poor competition, and anti consumer nature. It doesn't need to lose the only direct competition (at least not unless legislators and regulators step in so new consoles can survive). Microsoft does need to do much better with Xbox on PC. It's weird that steam did it on their first try with Linux, but a dedicated gaming mode with Xbox branding and optional software for a gaming OS is just a no brainer. That way even through using other launchers, most gamers would go through the Xbox gaming mode to organize their game library and navigate it while gaming.
