With the Xbox Showcase coming up soon, Microsoft has a huge opportunity to reveal the next Gears of War and reinvigorate the series again. Gears of War fans have long awaited its return and it would be a shame for Xbox to fumble this next entry in terms of hype, presentation, and compelling story that makes us care about these characters again. With how much the gaming landscape has changed, it's important for Xbox to get this one right so that gamers are excited to invest in Xbox again!

The longest gap in games we had till now was Judgment to Gears 4 which was 3 and a half years. March 2013 to September 2016. Now is been 5 years and Gears 6 is at least a year away. Maybe longer.

Gnasher. The Gnasher is the main reason for players leaving the multi-player modes. 80% of game play is Gnasher and anytime a mechanic is put in place to counter, it gets taken away. Retro Lancer, stim grenade, slowdown when being shot, Enforcer smg, powerful melee, etc are all counters to the Gnasher. Eventually those were all taken from main play and once again the Gnasher is the primary focus.

Gears online multiplayer is second only to COD in terms of the most unfun and frustrating online experiences I've ever had. Nobody plays it to have fun, but instead to perfect their pointless K/D ratio. I remember trying to play Gears 3 multiplayer back in the day and quitting after just 30 minutes because every single person was just spamming the fucking Gnasher. Get rid of rankings and MVP shit, and I guarantee you that will get rid of the losers who only want to use one weapon.

Xbox 360 was the first console that was all my own. And I bought Gears of War with it! It left such an impression and the series was so good back in that generation! I stopped after 3 but I'm still absolutely interested in Gears 6--I hope they can knock it out of the park and bring it back!

Gears of war 4 was the worst entry in the franchise. Even more than judgement. Imagine adding enemies like robots that make the chainsaw gun useless. Because they blow up and kill you if you chainsaw them. They added boring defense missions in the campaign. Gears of war 4 is a game that didn't improve in any aspect that isn't just visual. Gears of war 5 was big jump and fixed so many issues. It's also the buggiest game ever made in the franchise. So understanding Microsoft buy franchises and runs them into the ground like EA before them. Learn from history, and halo sucks too. 343 ran halo franchise into the ground. Tv show sucks. Every time they get feedback, they do the opposite. Microsoft has a major trust issue with gamers because they took franchise and ruined them.

Halo just showed their goal, the many studio dismanting proved anyone can be removed. They'll fumble this, or a good attempt but the expectation will follow the previous title's strengths, value and returns, while not realizing the new price tag does not match the gameplay, fun and details of yester Generation.

Long time Gears of War fan here, and i am sad to say, that the thing that could get GEARS back on track... is unnataiable, cause it's good ol' Cliff-B... before he got too high on his own supply. Now, i liked 4, and do not get the hate for 5... BUT we gotta face the fact that the series peaked in 2. because back then this guy KNEW what the gamer wanted of the experience. Now i do sound a bit dismissive of the whole team, and i dont really think it's just his work that made gears good. But you can pin-point the moment things spiraled downwards and that was when he left epic at the time... (oh god.... WHAT YEAR IS IT???) Like when halo left bungie for 343... the change of hands marks a drastic change in IP handling.

There is no world where an Xbox exclusive game can do well. Even if Gears 6 is awesome, it will still be seen as a failure to Microsoft. The game will release for $60 USD, but everyone will do gamepass for a month, beat the single player campaign and go back to whatever game they're grinding on. Also, helldivers exists.

Credit to Erica briefly touching on it. But the Gears franchise atm is struggling from a very real issue that plagues all sides of the base package. An issue most if not all seem to never actually want to talk about. In that The Coalition is trying to sell what THEY want Gears to be...to 2 audiences that want 2 completely different experiences when it comes to Gears of War. On 1 side you have Xbox fans. Who only want Gears to be the prettiest game they've ever seen. Something they can over praise & over glorify on twitter for a week or 2 before bouncing off of it, never playing it again. On the other you have proper Gears fans. Who in & of themselves are divided at their core. 1 half wanting every single game to play EXACTLY like the 1st one. The other wanting exactly the same thing but for part 3 instead. The ONLY thing they agree on is that they want a new Gears game to be more than just a "pretty face with no substance". Ultimately it will be the former that ends up getting what it wants with 6. As The Coalitions 2 biggest feathers in their hats are 2 things they openly promote themselves. 1 being their prowess with Unreal Engine. The other being that they're overly progressive & fully believe in all things DEI. So with 6 we WILL continue to see more of what we got with 5. A visual feast for the eyes featuring their self insert lead character that no Gears fans want in the place of a Fenix....that will soak ALL the headlines for setting a new standard....quickly before seeing everyone fuck off after a week. For what it's worth...the real plot twist here is that the Gears fans side of the coin is essentially going to be replaced by Playstation gamers once Gears goes multiplat. & at that point, The Coalition won't have to worry about appeasing the old base anymore. Because ultimately Playstation gamers over glorify the same exact things Xbox gamers do. Just only when they're made by team blue.

Some months ago, a man walked in where i worked with a Gears Cog shirt on and we immediately started talking about GoW and what should have been. After reminiscing on that convo i think Gears 4 should have been a hybrid sequel/prequel where you place a non-linear campaign alternating between Pendulum wars and 2 generations after marcus (Have Marcus and Anya elderly, alive, and happily married) and the story could be somehow related to that. The best part of Gears 4 was the short flashback sequence lol. What a shame GoW at its peak was literally a phenomenon and its game modes where peak.

Realistically, how can the Coalition deliver a satisfying cap to this trilogy when Gears 4/5 were met with such lukewarm receptions? I don't think anybody really cares about how this trilogy wraps up. The original three games may not have been narrative masterpieces, but the characters were fun and likeable, and there was something compelling about the horrific struggle against the locust that kept players coming back for more. I also think each sequel pushed the envelope technically - they were essentially consumer showcases for the latest and greatest Unreal Engine features. Gears 4/5 are no different in this respect, but imo gaming tech was so much more exciting back then, and the visual leaps we were seeing were more obvious and impressive. I guess this is a subjective opinion but a lot of current gen titles really aren't that much more impressive than the previous gen to me. Whilst I can't personally comment on the quality of Gears 4/5 (I've tried to play through 4 twice, but I get bored within a few hours and have never finished it), I don't think they've had the same draw the original trilogy did, so I don't think a third entry can ever truly hit the mark the franchise needs it to. I will say this is a good opportunity for Microsoft to reveal a Halo Anniversary style re-release of the legacy titles (but without the launch issues). I would love to see remastered Gears 1, 2, 3, Judgement (especially if they appear on PC). I think the current situation with Xbox raises a broader question - do we really need a MS gaming console? From a hardware perspective they are essentially delivering the same experience as Sony. Meanwhile Nintendo continue to do their own thing (with great success). Microsoft/Sony's machines are so similar from a hardware perspective as to be essentially interchangeable. I will say I prefer the Xbox controller and the design of their hardware over the PS5

Gears 3 (Judgement was fun but lacking in depth) was the last 'Gears' game for me. I'm generally against remakes unless there is a valid reason to do it (and they already did Gears Ultimate) so I'd say it was done and dusted for me. Gears of war is a great game and will always be.. let them release number 6 I will buy it and play it I'm a true fan of every gears of war from 1 to 5 since 2011 when I was 15 years old to now 28. Story mode is fun and eventful. The competition side is also amazing.. You just need to learn the mechanics of the game for you to be good.
