Great video Dennis =D Nice to see a debug XBOX in your collection! Removing the caps on the old XBOX can be a trauma! The multi layer boards don't help, and they can be super painful to free up the caps.

Thanks man! Indeed, stupid of me to loose the footage, as I did have to crank up the desoldering station indeed to get enough heat in there to free it up. As can be seen as well in the macro shots of the cap itself, one leg has more solder remnants remain on it. And you might’ve heard by the tone of my voice too, super happy to have this in my collection! I might actually go ahead and make use of it as intended, and do some homebrewing on it someday :D

The noise you hear when you turn it on is the GPU fan. It runs out of grease and makes terribles noises

I figured as much, as mentioned, might do a noctua fan mod to this someday. For now it’s safely stored in my collection, no clock cap ruining this one! (though I should consider doing a recap on it in the coming years too)

late reply, am sorry, only seeing this now :( If memory serves me correctly, when facing it from the front, the cable itself on the connector has a little latch on the right hand side of it. You need to ensure that clips loose when pulling the connector up. You can see in the timelapse it took me several tries as well 😅

Funny seeing someone with Playstation tats working on a Xbox :D - imho the original Xbox was basically the Dreamcast 2. PGR (which debuted as MSR on DC), JSRF, Sonic devs making Blinx, etc. etc. Lots of cool games released on that system.

I found it similarly entertaining while recording, hahaha! And I agree, I had all consoles of that generation, and enjoyed different games on each platform :D
