Anyone who makes this about "Console Wars" is just shilling for some company or is probably 10 years old. When Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo or any company head in a direction that's bad for consumers, it should be called out. PlayStation has done very stupid things with censorship and preservation of their old titles with people like Jim Ryan acting like old games don't matter, while Nintendo was terrible towards content creators and goes out of their way to attack emulation and preservation attempts. All of these companies do stupid things, but this one is the most recent and really frustrated me.

This could lead to worse sales overall than before the “digitalConsolePush”. Patient gaming on pc is different in that one can literally just wait for a game to be cracked. Unsure if you’ve made a video on all these new games being $10 more on pc store’s msrp than console. Bgs3 $70 on PS5 & $60 on Steam, LoTF $70 console & $60 Steam, AWake2 $50 Epic store & $60 console. There simply is no real logical explanation other than greed & that console are caged pay pigs .

Physical beats digital every time eBay sold listings prove it . I only buy digital when physical is not available or when digital is 90% off I have game pass because I upgraded my gold subscription by purchasing one month of Gamepass so it basically costs nothing to have it I’d never pay full price for Gamepass then I’ve also got a massive back log of awesome games so I can be way more picky with purchases so I understand physical sales being problematic for companies if physical purchases are low your game sells on discount and you lose money.

It’s very sad how things are moving toward a restrictive online-only format. As an Xbox guy myself, it’s doubly so because I very much value their extensive backwards compatibility for both digital and physical games. I’m just trying my best to navigate the whole situation, like buying physical and digitally at fair prices but also keeping availability (current and future) in mind.

I've seen so many on reddit disregard this and even oppose the physical option completely while praising digital only. As in actually looking forward to when it's only digital. It's absurd. The Xbox 360 store shuts down next year and so much will be lost, with PS3/Vita storefronts surely to follow through sometime after. It's all about control. The more they control your life, the more power they have. And power is everything to these people. I'll NEVER go fully digital. Outside of some games I own on steam, all of my collection is completely physical. I need to be able to hold my property in my hands that I purchase with my own hard work. I'll never let anyone else hold leverage over me over something that's rightfully mine. It's why I'm glad I'm a collector. I'm actually looking into doing some video game based restorations too. I wouldn't mind learning how to fix up old NES/SNES type of systems and consoles. I love collecting old merchandise. Agreed, they act like doing this will benefit them in some way. (looking at to you TechreviewsUSA) Their is nothing exciting about the death of physical media, and I don't understand why so many digital gamers are so quick to say that "Digital is the future, so get use to it" when someone even _mentions_ of a physical media renaissance. The way I see it, I see no future in a digital-only landscape, gamers are eventually going to get very tired of having to put up with Microsoft and PlayStation's bullshit every year, they already are as a matter of fact, and if we go all-digital modern gaming is only going to get worse than it already is, more games will be broken at launch, more games will have more microtransactions, more games will be online-only, and more stuff will get censored, not to mention in a digital-only hellscape, game titles will also have shorter life spans, because more games are only going to get delisted more often than they are now, and then people will realize that all-digital consoles should have never been conceived in the first place.

That’s a possibility? But I doubt it. Because with the exception of Steam, most players typically consider Sony to have been “winning the console wars” since PS4. Although in my opinion the whole idea of the console wars is just stupid. It’s just a trick to get people to passionately defend corporations who wouldn’t hesitate to screw consumers over whenever they can. And the gaming industry has seen plenty of examples of Sony being anti consumer ever since the PS4 era. So while I would like for the PS6 to also have a disc drive, I don’t think Sony feels like they need to one up Microsoft. They already become complacent being at the top

They could buy I see them following MS. If they both do it at the same time, customers won't have any good options. PC gaming has gotten prohibitively expensive again and the next Nintendo console will likely spec somewhere between the PS4 and PS5 (meaning it likely won't be powerful enough to handle high end games of next gen). I'm hoping I'm wrong but Sony has already shown they want all digital. They just failed the first time because they had physical competition.

There's a strong indicator that sony may stick with physical media for the foreseeable future since there's a rumor going around and it's so far proven to be true that the PS5 All Digital model has been discontinued. But the PS5 standard will remain in production. Also the PS5 All Digital unit has not been restocked since the middle of last.

Truly hope that ends up being the case. I'm very happy with how PlayStation does their physical releases for each current generation. Sony owns Blu-ray so anything on a Blu-ray that is sold Sony gets a cut of the money that includes movies, so I doubt they’ll ever get rid of the disc player.

I fully feel the frustration of the digital decision after trying to hunt for 3DS games. I found out that we never got a physical shin megami tensei IV in Europa, it was only digital and with 3DS being region locked, it just makes it all the more frustrating! Now the only options are: get game and a console from another region, hack my 3DS or go with emulator on my computer.

Besides losing games on physical media, I also hate the idea of losing the option of having a single device that plays both games and Blu-Rays/DVDs, especially considering the lower-end name brand 4K Blu-Ray players really aren't that much cheaper than just buying an XBox Series X or PS5.

@@bubba8751 Really really glad to hear that. There's a lot of tutorials on here to fix stuff like that too if it ever happens again and that doesn't solve it. Some consoles you need to buy specific screwdrivers for though like I believe the PS3 and some Nintendo consoles have weird star-shaped screw heads because back when they were made they wanted us to have to send them in for repair vs do it ourselves, but it's all doable. Really glad you got yours fixed!!!

You did have to connect to the internet on Xbox one to make an account, you couldn't have an offline account at all. Also you can't set up the Xbox One/One X/Series X without an internet connection, an internet connection is mandatory just to set up and use the console before you even make an account. A console in my opinion should work right out of the box with no internet required, it was the reason why I went with PS4 last gen and PS5 this gen because you can set and play those consoles up completely offline without an internet connection. This comment isn't made to invoke a console war to any future commenters on here but it is what it is.

It sucks cause I’ve made bad past decisions and sold all my physical games and went all digital starting around 2017/18. And just the past couple months I wanna go physical again. And it sucks cause I only have like 7 games physical yet close to 500 digital. Sheesh lol

Actually Jay these issues like this could have just been reversed by a backlash and demanding to changed the decision of keeping the physical games viable , MS used to be good of doing this by allowing physical games being playable on Xbox but now the decision of get rid of it only to backfired their decision which is not good MS needs to do drastic changes before anyone leaved Xbox all together by offered a disc-drive option (which cause $200) or lower the price of the standard Series X , I do get it that GamePass subs was important but so does the game's preservation as well , people should have protest MS decision on this and demand a change , I don't want another Xbox One DRM thingy again

I only recently saw the full picture(pc games being $10 cheaper) for many many games. This is laughable because console doesn’t have digital refunds and Steam takes the same 30% as Xbox/Sony. PC has ALL the leverage due to being an open platform where piracy is an inevitable option. Therefore, I’m being extremely cautious in what I purchase on console as I’ll be hopefully building a mid range $1k’ish rig in holiday 2024. PlayStation increasing online multiplayer paywall to $60 minimum $80msrp is a NON STARTER. The only money I’d spend on ps5 would be a cheap physical game or $15 or less digital game. Was so hyped for the new LoTF game and sure enough …those 🐀 rats have it priced at $70 on Xbox/ps5 and $60 on SteamStore. This is unacceptable and is the same case with BaldorsGate3 $70 on PS5 & $60 on Steam. Sure the consoles are great for patient gaming but if we’re being pushed into digital only future then pc is the best platform for CONSUMER OPTIONS. Will be extremely disappointed if Xbox doesn’t offer an OPTIONAL external bluRay drive .

I own a ton of physical games more than 400 i continue to collect i am okay with the new vision i will buy less use subscription services for games and wait for sales to buy certain ones that’s all . I have couple of used xbox 360 , ps3 , ps4 it’s okay for me . I personally prefer the digital only for xbox series for the features and the future xbox handheld specially with steam that will be available on it :)

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo also goes full on digital games only after Microsoft and Sony do it because they added paid online in 2018 after it was successful with Microsoft and Sony then they started charging 70 dollars for tears of the kingdom three years after Microsoft and Sony had success with that as well. So yeah i really wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo goes full digital and other than the stuff i mentioned above. Nintendo has been rewarding people for going fully digital than going physical since probably the switch with their rewards program where you get more points buying digitally and less if bought physically and physical games if not redeemed in time. It'll expire and I've heard multiple times online that you don't get a lot of time to redeem it or it just doesn't work at all when you buy it. Idk about digital games how long they have until it has expired. Sorry for long paragraph.

I bought Xbox X&S Day-1 and im very disappointed how they handled backwards compatibility because i really thought i could play my old games locally on system,, i didn't know it was going to download an online copy,, so0 without internet i can't play my old catalog of xboxs games... I'm also sad on the current state of Halo and because of that this will be my last Xbox, i don't think it matters because Xbox seems to be exiting the console world already..
