I still have my original Xbox and vividly remember going to pick it up because I reserved it, I currently have a Series S and I feel nothing about the demise of the Xbox. We are simply approaching the end of the console era and the digital distribution is much more important than the hardware. As for the "lies", it not the first time that a company changes plans and direction. Sony has competition, even without Microsoft because gaming goes beyond consoles! There are full size PCs, little handheld PCs, powerful Android devices, whatever Nintendo does next, cloud gaming, etc...

Yeah going "exclusive" doesn't bring profits like it used to for any console. Production costs are so insanely high that locking yourself into one console for a release will result in a loss...that's why Spiderman 2 had to lay a ton of ppl off during the process...300 mil production cost with a bad sales trajectory

Sony is releasing their games on PC, think they're doing much better? Because Xbox is funded by microsoft who is the #2 company in the world. Forbidden West and TLOU2 didn't bring in enough profit to offset the extremely high production costs. Which is why Sony games come to PC. If sony was making enough money on exclusives they wouldn't need to port to pc. PC players would be buying consoles because the games are too good, except they are not. Sure the reviewers are over the moon with Sony exclusives but Palworld and Multiplat titles do much better. On PC we got days gone, Returnal, Uncharted, Horizon, soon, Horizon 2, Spiderman, soon, spiderman 2, God of War, FFVII Remake, can you even really call your games exclusive anymore? I mean you got bragging rights on Xbox for sure but MICROSOFT is doing FINE. Come to pc friend, you'll love it here.

Well that's a wrap for my time on Xbox. After hitting 1 Million Gamerscore in January I've done what I wanted to do on the platform. Clearly Microsoft has 0 intention to support it any longer. But I suppose their games will live on. But via PlayStation and Nintendo systems. Where the majority of people are playing.

Will have to see how things go. I currently have both a Playstation and an Xbox but mostly play on Xbox due to gamepass.... I don't see how Xbox releasing their games on Playstation will change much for me, as long as they still release first on Xbox and on gamepass day-one.

What you say is true but it's naive to expect honesty from a company. Especially Michealsoft. Sony. Nintendo. Its all the same. It's a corporation. The bottom line is they're out to make money. Honesty doesn't pay the bills. Investors funding these companies will always mean that making money is the end goal, not making good games, or keeping the customer happy. Hell, a developer cant even pitch a new idea now if it isnt ripping off an already successful video game.

Xbox saw a 61% increase in revenues in 2023 as compared to 2022. Only 3% of that was console sales. Xbox hasn't given a crap about hardware sales for years now. They've been positioning themselves to essentially be a software publisher and that's been obvious for ages. They weren't necessarily lying when they said Starfield was exclusive. It's entirely possible that was 100% the plan when they said it. Then the 2023 financials came out and said what they said. Like, if a parent tells their kid they'll go to Disney World next year and then, six months later, they have to pay emergency medical bills instead and can't afford Disney anymore, it wasn't a lie when they originally said it.

A 61% jump is because of the timing. The pandemic was on full blast when this generation of consoles were coming out. Of course there was a serious increase of revenue once life returned to normal. My truest concern is dishonesty. CD Projekt Red was deceptive and and put them on blast for years. Xbox can be anything, but they cannot be deceptive.

They lost the hardware war a long time ago and their business plan has not, for a long time, been based on console sales. When they've had exclusive games recently, it wasn't about selling consoles. It was about selling GamePass subscriptions.

Money. They make more money on the software than they do the consoles, which they sell at a loss. If all games went multiplatform, the devs would make more money. Sony and Microsoft would rather reduce the devs potential profit so THEY can secure a better share of the profit themselves. Imagine how much better games would sell if people could buy it on any machine.
