Xbox original Customization - with optical drive and hard drive window mod

Today I'd like to show this beautiful Original Xbox customization. I know there's a lot of this projects all over the internet, that's why I decided to do something different. The special touch for this was create a window on the top of the hard drive to make the disk and internal pieces visible. Also, I made some other parts with plexiglass like the optical drive top cover. I hope you enjoy the video.

For good reason, it's an incredibly risky operation that can lead to complications only weeks or months down the line. Hard drives are assembled in clean rooms for a reason.

the mechanical Parts still work after you opened the drive. The Problem is that even a tiny bit of dust can harm your drive, or the data stored on it. The typical dust particle is to big to fit between the magnetic disks and the read/write head, which could lead to mechanical damage. To be safe, you should only open those drives in a dust free environment...

The trouble is, drives don't tend to last long once they've been opened. One speck of dust & it's game over.

Back in the day when this harddrive mod was common place in the PC modding world you could buy kits to just swap out the top. I always made my own. Would have loved a laser cutter though.

best project of the channel for me ...réminds me the first time i saw this console, she was fat but so Much powerfull and ahead of her times, starting halo was like handling the futur and those sensations desapeared over times, now the next gen doesnt Feels like it anymore

Modding the HDD seems like a risky bet, even a small bit of dust particles in the drive could wreck it over the long term. Hard drives are usually disassembled in clean rooms.

I think the best mods are the ones that have that "special edition" feeling. You did an absolute amazing job keeping the stickers and preserving the identity of the console with the colors. I wish you would do another ps3 fat mod. Maybe themed after Metal Gear Solid 4.

Looks amazing! The color scheme and choices are perfect. From the manufactures date you have a v1.6b console. No need to worry about that pesky clock capacitor. I was also surprised with you opening the HDD. I guess some can be disassembled but it may have been just sheer luck.

Its a 1.6 box so just put a mod chip in and no harddrive issues anymore.

Dude, love the hard work and time you put into each project. This original Xbox console is sick! I bought a nice halo green modded one as well a few years back with a Xecuter 3 mod chip and it also has a LCD screen and 2 USB ports. It’s able to play thousands of classic games from these consoles NES, SNES, Genesis, Master System, Turbografx 16, Colecovision, Intellivision, Atari 2600, Atari, 5200, Atari Lynx, Neo Geo Pocket, Wonderswan, MSX, MSX2. Would love to see if you could maybe give me a little upgrade! Lol

@@Cam7005 you just buy an used OG XBOX and hardmod/softmod it. To be honest it's worth to do yourself, since you'll learn how to service your xbox and keep it running in the future.
