Use some low melt solder. To get the ports off. That way you don't have to pump near as much heat in to the board. The less heat the better. Other than that a job well done. That's a great and clean looking install.

I’m a bit new to repairing electronics on this scale, so I have some questions about the process. What size and head screw drivers will we need for the disassembly? Anything out of the ordinary T8 and T6? What is flux and how do I use it? Do I need to remove it after I’ve soldered the joints? How do I clean it off? How do I clean the board in general? I’ve heard some use isopropyl alcohol, does this work? Is 60/40 considered high-lead content solder, in applications where I’m using it to lower the melting point of lead free solder? How do you tell if the hdmi ic is already out? Because my broken port looks just like that and I’ve had it on

Hi, There are some basic checks you can do on the mainboard to give an idea it might be faulty. But usually replacing the HDMI port is first (specially if the port looks even slightly damaged). If still no display it has a good chance the HDMI IC is faulty.

Great reapir, I am in the middle of repairing a previous hdmi repair attempt and nootices that the resistor R178 is missing beside the hdmi retimer chip, is there you would know or anyone has an idea what is the value of the resistor R178? Thank you
