StezStix Fix?

Күн бұрын

This Series X isn't displaying properly and appears to have a broken HDMI port. Will I be able to replace the port without causing more damage?
Unlikely.
But, let's find out!
Hope you enjoy!
Steve

when he found the chip, I paused the video and looked up the chip. from the results, this chip flying off when doing HDMI replacements is very common! then I went down the rabbit hole more and found it is not for sale anywhere and the only way to get one is from a donor board. went back to the video and was super glad there is a way to bypass it. I know the PlayStation really does not like filters not being used and this could have ended poorly if it was Sony

6:14 the solder on 99.99% of electronics nowadays is lead-free solder which needs quite high temperatures to liquefy, to more easily remove things like hdmi ports it is always a good idea to add some low melt solder or even just 63/37 solder to all the solder joints to lower the melting point.

@@WhiteG60 sorry, must have missed that part, so let me rephrase that. Low melt solder or smd/smt removal alloy as it is also called would have been ideal in this case as it lowers the melting point even further as the alloy's own melting point is just 58ºC. its a bit expensive at $15 to $20 per 4.5Ft of the stuff, but works wonders.

Try warming the stickers up a little with your hot air. Less damage to the stickers. When the USB & HDMI ports start getting lose on my son's xbox it's usually the metal part of the connector spreading apart like yours. If you deal with it early enough you can clamp the metal parts back together and solder it together for extra strength. It makes the ports feel new again.

Just my two cents advice as a technician that deals with thick boards sometimes. I use a cheap hot plate put it on minimum heat enough not to burn plastic parts off the board, but warm enough so that it doesn't suck off the heat from a hot air station gun to remove Parts like an HDMI. Oh yeah, use a jig to keep it off the hot plate.

I bought my Series X used via Ebay about 6 weeks back for 365.00, I was surprised to find that it had never been open and works great, except for the HDMI issue. If I tried to place the unit straight up, the HDIM port would get pulled downward by the weight of the HDMI cable and I'd loose picture. I ended up laying the unit down on its side and that HDMI port does not lose connection. Even better I found that unit is still under warranty until April 2023, so I can send it in for repair eplacement by Microsoft if it comes down to needing it.

Yep great but you can't sell it without the 5 volt esd chip. It would be unethical? Next time use low melt solder port will come off really easy. Forgot to say no 4k with this fix.😮‍💨
