I feel like I am one of the few people that prefers the AA batteries. They're easy to replace and I just have Eneloop rechargeable batteries where I just swap out for fully charged ones. Just better than to have a long wire charging your controller. Also easier down the road than to have to find a battery replacement like on a ps3 or ps4 controller. I have read on GameSpot that the series x controller does work with xbox one

If you set the Xbox One as your home console you can play all your digital games offline as long as it's a game that's licensed to your gamertag. My curious question is can a guest make an offline profile like on the 360... Because you can't on Xbox One and I thought that was super redundant...

Totally agree with your first statement. This generation feels like a firmware update or PS4.5/Xbox One.2. A little bit more powerful, an SSD and all of your previous games. It's like upgrading your PC with slightly better components. I guess that's the future going forward but man, this just feels very underwhelming and a new console launch for the sake of doing one.

I felt like that was the last gen, it felt like more of a sidestep or practice run for this gen. This gen feels like it's back to normal with a big jump in performance, innovation and new features. I never did feel the need to purchase any console last gen so this gen is even more enticing for me. I like the upgrade approach from M$ personally, just having a 'new' xbox is way better than starting fresh with each cycle.

Actually it's the other way out, the Xbox One and PS4 was the generation that was more a firmware update. The Series and PS5 and far more powerful and both much better designed compared to their previous systems.

Actually, load times are pretty close to the internal drive when you're running older games off an external SSD. Digital Foundry did a video on that.

Figured you'd be more in favor of AA battery option, for preservation. Lithium-ions are harder to replace, can swell and damage the controller, and some are custom ones (PSP, Wii U Gamepad) with poor aftermarket options. The AA format will presumably survive those, and there's rechargeable ones too like Eneloops to cut down on e-waste.

You need the internet for the smart delivery method implemented on the games discs. As these are cross-generation titles with code that vastly differs depending on the hardware its running on, it would be impossible to have both Xbox One and Xbox Series game data all loaded onto one disc. For now, it should be safe to assume that the Xbox One version of the game will be what's on the physical media, and that physical key will initiate the Series version to download on that respective hardware. This sucks for those with data caps, but at the end of the day you only have to pay once to get a game that will work on 2 platforms. That's an awesome perk for anyone who wants to get a new game now but know they will have an upgraded experience for free later on down the line when they change hardware. The days of games running off the media its stored on are long behind us. Especially now with SSD loading speeds and the almost guaranteed nature of new games requiring patches to run perfectly and you've basically got a situation here where I don't think you can fault Microsoft in the slightest. I actually applaud them for only requiring you to buy one game disc when they easily could have gone the route in the past where the New Gen version costs 10 dollars more for the same experience with a fresh coat of paint.

I know this comparison doesn’t go all the way, but the way you’re describing it feels kinda like.. Wii U-esque? Like how the Wii U was the Wii, but in HD; and then this being like the Xbox One, but with an SSD. Most of the hardware (minus the Kinect) being compatible with both systems. Then there’s the confusing naming for both the Wii U and the Series X. I doubt the console is gonna underperform like the Wii U, but still some interesting stuff. Great video though! Looking forward to those birthday/swan song videos for the PS4 and Xbox One. If you’re looking for video ideas, I would love to see what you’re gaming setup looks like.

2 things I want to point out on this video. Yes you can still play offline. I just tested it on my Series X with the hard drives from my Xbox One X. You will need to make your console as “My Home Xbox”. The settings is under General Personalisation in settings. Second thing you mentioned that is wrong regarding the controllers. You can use the new Xbox Series X/S controllers on the Xbox One as well. Let us know if the issue is resolved for you.

There are literally no generation exclusive titles for Series X currently. That is beyond sad and also the reason I am not buying it right now. I want to see interesting new titles before I am willing to spend 500 EUR on a new console

The MaH capacity of good eneloop blow away any internal batteries controllers use. And as someone who keeps things long term they are also easier to swap out than finding some odd sized internal pack later on. Case in point the battery life on the dual sense looks poor based on early reports, with good eneloops you have more capacity and the advantage of just swapping out another pair when needed. I really don't see any advantages internals really offer honestly, but I'd love to hear why exactly you prefer them?

You know I don't hear a lot of people defending good ol AA batteries nowadays. I prefer the convenience of wireless internal batteries, but they can die quickly like you said and are more annoying to replace than just swapping out some AA or AAA. I don't like spending the money on AA and AAA constantly though.

Internals make life easier and don't cost extra, most last longer than the console does or at least that generation. Using batteries in 2013 was laughable, now it's spun as a "feature". Until the DS5 ps controllers were easy to open up and I've never had any issues with them. My 360 pad has been opened up multiple times to be fixed but still works, the battery packs all died after a couple of years. My original ds3 still lasts for a week of daily gaming. In short most people just want convenience, internals are just that.

thanks so much for this video! :) nobody i've seen so far has said anything about it being a brick without an internet connection. that's a real drag since i rely on my phone's hotspot for small game downloads and upgrade patches for og xbox and 360 discs. i just bought my one x a week ago and had been considering trading it in for a series x eventually. not anymore tho.

I had a similar issue with the always online stuff with my Xbox One back in the day. Everyone has already mentioned setting your Xbox Series X as your home console. It's basically just a way to prevent account sharing (and probably a couple other things I'm not aware of.) So yeah, that will solve your problems

Yeah I am in total agreement. Have the same issue with where do I put this thing. My cabinet will NOT accommodate. Sucks you have to be online lets get them to change that. It's just a Seagate external drive. It works well enough, but isn't compatible with XSX games. It's just storage essentially.

I love the controller using AA batteries, as someone who works in the battery industry I know the chance of rechargeable batteries that may or may not be available in the future and to stay away from cheap ones online. Overall other then my previous comments I like my Series X very much and how much faster it loads games like Apex Legends and Control. Damn horizontal power button..

It seems most influencers/reviewers already had the mid-gen upgrade to 4k so their impression of the upgrade reflects that. For a lot of "normal" console gamers, this generation will be their first taste of 4k/60FPS. This means for a lot of people the jump in quality (once they upgrade their TV or monitor) will make more of an impression than the reviews reflect. I completely agree with all of the other reactions in this video but if I step back and ask "will this let me play games that look and feel great at a fraction of playing the PC upgrade game?" the answer is absolutely. That is all that really matters.

I wish, for og xbox at least, they would just include whatever emulator they use on the system itself so you can try out any xbox disc and see if it works. BTW your hard drive unplugging story reminded me; have you ever rebuilt the database on ps4? Did that once and it totally fucked up my library. Marked every game on my drives (internal & external) as installed on that very day, so may game library isn't in the order I'm used to. Wondering if you had any experience with that and if there is a way to get the original dates back. Because when I look at my notifications it has all the correct dates for digital downloaded titles.

It's kind of amusing we went back to expensive memory cards. Of course, instead of saves, they store entire games but the concept is kinda similar. It's also impressive we went from 128kB in 1995 to 8MB in 2000, to 512MB in 2005, to 1TB in 2020. Looking far into the future, I do hope these XSX 1TB cards are going to be compatible with the next Xbox, just like how PS1 cards were compatible with PS2. Unless this is the last Xbox and Adam's prophecy of doom is correct.

People online have stated with XBOX One, you cannot skip the initial setup and skip the make a profile area when offline. What is the truth? If you reset and are offline, and if server one day does not work, then you can never skip the intial setup where it asks for profile name when offline?

I don't know what to say about all this. These machines are out now, I feel old now that my childhood has become a retro thing being added into Microsoft's compatibility list and all. I'm really happy that there's so much support in the Retro Community now. WiiDUAL, DCHDMI, recently MakeMHZ HDMI, and hopefully the Sega Saturn Toslink mod. Seriously, CS8406+Toslink Transmitter+... Some sort of wires that connect them? Ugh, the Saturn would've been so easy to HDMI mod if Sega would've stuck to their original hardware plans to be the best console of the 3D era instead of building VDP1/2 chips to do the DAC conversion along with the graphics they create in the first place! Why does the RAD2X use YCbCr instead of RGB? GAH!!! I hate that whenever someone invents a product for an ingenious concept but ruin it by adding or keeping original flaws such as, why go with the Chimeric Systems HDMI when Monster Component gives the same YUV result of the otherwise RGsB XBOX!!! I'll be recording via 0-255 RGB Xbox 360 instead of 16-235 YUV 444 OG Xbox, oh wait I can't do that because MECHASSAULT WON'T PLAY ON 360!

The Xbox One lets you set a console as your “Home Console” which allows you to then play games offline.. but if you don’t set it up like that it won’t let you play anything offline - have they removed this option?

xbox series x controller is compatible with the one. I am playing with it now. I don't understand why people hate on the batteries. I love having batteries have a 10 pack of rechargeable batteries and always have batteries to use without about charging the controller. Nice review.

Agree. While i use the Elite 2 with the (extremely good charge and play life) internal battery i would have preferred the option of having both the option of using batteries or a long life battery pack.

The disc acts as a key to the console to unlock the software certification, which allows you to download the game from online. Xbox discs don’t have the games on the discs ever since 2013. PS4 does this too

Yep. It’s because Adam did not set his console as his main console. He needs to make the Xbox Series X as “My Home Xbox” under settings.

When I tested this is actually says “internet connection required, to enable offline play goto settings - personalization - Set as home Xbox” You would have seen that error message like I did, ether you didn’t read it or did and still decide to say what you said which just raises more questions??

That's just because the photo light is next to them during filming, so they look overexposed. Under normal lighting they look normal.

i think it had your old one x as the home console and that's why offline was completely broken...if that is the case though that still sucks how the solution to not making this console a brick offline is to turn your older xbox into a brick offline

I think if you go to your Xbox account and set your series x to your home console you can play your digitally purchased games offline. Hope that helps

Didn't you already have a Rechargable battery for the Xbox one controller? Those paks are interchangable, just the cable is different.

@@AdamKoralik I only just figured it out as well getting my Series X, shows Microsoft really is just iterating on the same platform with with hardware. I do miss the feel of nee consoles but at least the fact that xbox stuff just works across the board from the xbox one onwards is pretty dope.

Adam, Microsoft never said they would expand backwards compatibility list. If you have an article please share. I remember hearing that question asked to Phil Spencer in an interview. They had essentially stopped adding more titles prior to series s/x launches probably for getting those tested on the next gen consoles. I would say it would be possible to add more like the og xbox Bethesda titles once they own them. But either way, some titles have gotten major enhancements like higher fps, resolution and even HDR. Still really impressive.

I was in the room at E3 2019. It was said. They ended the program for the Xbox One, claiming the goal is to add more to, at the time, Project Scarlett. But that was like a year and a half ago.

I live in Puerto Rico. The power grid is not in a great condition, to put it lightly, and hurricanes are a common ocurrence. Sometimes the internet remains when the energy is out (by using a power generator or solar backup), but during Maria, we had like a month without internet and between aproximately 4 to 10 months without energy. Power outages are even a greater issue in some poorer countries outside North America, Western Europe and East Asia.

This is BIG news! This means we actually own the games we bought! MASSIVELY important. Thanks for charing that and a big applaud for xbox. Very important final step is to backup your games, because indeed, it still sucks you have to be online for certification. You cannot add the games anymore when the online service discontinuous. Which is still a bummer.

I had to google the issue as soon as you brought it up in your vid as that would be a major selling point for me. I’ve never played a console that didn’t have an offline mode. It would give me major pause on buying an XSX as I plan on doing as I’m bought into the Xbox ecosystem like I am with the Apple ecosystem.

I've been a fan for a while dude, you make good content. I feel the need to correct some of the things in this because I also would be angry if my console bricked when servers went down. The Xbox Series X can in fact play physical games completely offline. However, it is only dedicated Xbox Series X games that can do this. Xbox Series X backwards compatibility with Xbox One is set up just like the Xbox One backwards compatibility is with the 360 in that it is based entirely off of online download. This is why when you put in Xbox One games they require internet. However, the games that say they are compatible on both consoles quite literally only have the Xbox One version on the disc, but they also act as a key to unlock the online download of the Xbox Series X version on the new console. The Xbox One plays it right off the disc, but the Xbox Series X does not. Of course with the Xbox One version on disc, it is backwards compatible and you would be prompted with both downloads from online. Dedicated Xbox Series X games are run straight from the disc, which is really positive and I'm glad the console is not forced to always be online. To my knowledge, there were no dedicated Xbox Series X games at launch and Microsoft didn't exactly advertise this information. I think the idea was that people would buy it now and not only get backwards compatibility when they upgrade but also a free upgrade to the new version. I think it was incredibly poor optics to not advertise this information but the intention was actually far more consumer-focused than we realized. Its dumb that they didn't just make the Xbox Series X play Xbox One games natively like the PS5 but whatever, I'm not selling my Xbox One anytime soon. I can't guarantee that all of the information I just said was 100% correct, and if it's not I welcome the correction, but what's important is that dedicated Xbox Series X games do download and play completely offline. I download a game offline today and am playing it offline right now actually.

Yeah there's an update video that came out later the day this was released. The online only issue has to do with certification during the transfer process.

I bought the Xbox Series X version of Control Ultimate Edotion today, then disconnected my console from internet, put it in the console, it downloaded fully and I was able to play it for a little bit with no issues.

I love my Series X. I think Microsoft have nailed it. It’s fast and responsive and I just have the best time. A couple of annoying little glitches but no more than literally any other tech i own! Very glad to be in this camp.

Oh god, having the controller take AA's is a GODSEND!! More than Zero times have I had to steal some AA's from some other device just to get thought a match. If it happens more than Zero, it is the correct selection. For that case, I have had probably 5 or 6 "Play&Charge kits" on the 360 and One, AA's never let me down, and they are everywhere. You can even roll a small ball of aluminium foil and use AAA's. Easier on the 360 as it has a divider for the bats, but it saves lives, more than a P&C kit that dies.

I really wish I could play this game. I've got a hacked 360 aswell as a non-hacked 360 and I can't even find a download for the game. It sucks.
