Xbox Showcase Reaction - It Was Great, But...

My Xbox Showcase reaction was almost universally positive. The Xbox Games Showcase 2024 kicked off with a Call of Duty Black Ops 6 trailer, followed by Phil Spencer, and an amazing Doom The Dark Ages trailer. It was clearly the biggest event of Summer Game Fest 2024. But there were a few things that went unnoticed.
Sarah Bond and Matt Booty were also there including the Starfield Shattered Space DLC trailer and Stalker 2 and then there was an IGN Phil Spencer interview that made some things very clear.

I think the 2025 game like Doom, Fable, and South of Midnight will be part of the developers direct they’ve been doing at the top of the year. We’ll get extended gameplay of those during that time.

The Xbox Showcase is a win for all gamers, yet people are still trying to squeeze some console war out of it. Like Phil said, play these games where you want to play Xbox, PlayStation, PC, Steamdeck, etc. etc. Xbox has some great games coming to gamers. Looking forward to seeing what Ubisoft is bringing to gamers.

Yup. I looked at it like this, all the exclusive stuff I can get on steam deck and play on GeForce Now if need be and everything that is coming to other platforms I’ll just buy on PS5.

Like a long while now, years in fact, and you're just now noticing it or you've always noticed it. And you're bringing it up now because you want to create some sort of narrative. Regardless of the reason, the games are also on PC. They're not going to say console exclusive.

They delivered trailers of games, most of which come from two publishers they bought. Being rich is basically their only merit. Their own teams are still Fable, Halo, Gears and Forza factories, and the other sttempts look okay, but not impressive.

I will tell u one thing I’m a pony through and through and I hate Xbox so much but I was so damn jealous of their showcase it was fantastic and I always seem to waste my time on Xbox events well not this year.

Amidst the enthusiasm and overcheering, there are some pretty shaky aspects: Most of the "big releases" are due for 2025 and beyond; Most of what was shown did not get proper gameplay slices; Most of what was shown is headed towards the PS5...

How is games being scheduled for next year a shaky aspect. Every game show shows game schedule for next year. For your uninterrupted gameplay critique I would say some not most. There are 30 games most imply 16 plus. And again, you keep using the word most for your third critique. But the problem is half is the actual number not most and also so. That critique would only make sense if most of the games are third party, but they show 30 games most of them are first party and half of them are going to be on PS5. You're acting as if they chose to show less games it would be better. Like would you have been happier if they chose to just not show five multiplat games cuz they weren't obligated to show those. Every leather console shows multiplats during their shows / directs / state of plays as well but okay.

Wasn’t that the third cinematic trailer for Fable? The original one with the fairies , second one with the guy from IT crowd, and the new one yesterday.

The first one was 100%. CGI. The second one was CGI with small smaller clips of gameplay. And the third one was basically the second one but there was more clips of gameplay then the second one. Like in the third one when she was walking through the town, when she was talking to the two NPCs, when the creatures got knocked into the air with the green energy and she aimed a bow at them, when she smacked the guy in the face with the sword and when she threw the rock at the guy who was aiming a crossbow at her, those are all gameplay oh and when she was walking up to the giant toad and jogging through the forest.

I agree with most of what you said, but i wouldn't hold the 3rd party games against xbox since most of them will be on GP. I'm still on the fence with Indiana Jones being 1st person. Hopefully, at the deep dive, they'll announce a 3rd person option like Avowed did.

I wish Sony had one FPS. Just one Campaign single player FPS. I don't own a XBOX or gaming PC and I don't have game pass. Nor do I want them. With that said, their FPS games look really interesting. I love PlayStation's games, but I want a FPs. I'm over the over the shoulder shooters. Really good games, it just seems Sony is the only major publisher that doesn't have a game like that since killzone.

@@barcster2003 it was but everyone hyping Xbox like it's the best now, when it barely had any exclusives. I can buy those on Playstation. We also didn't see a lot of gameplay, mostly cenematics. What's more, I'm not seeing Xbox logos on Wukong, Wolverine, Phantom Blade or Silent Hill 2.

I dont think the average consumer watches these shows much tbf. Lono running defence for phildo spencer was worrying though, the mans done nothing for gaming.
