A few corrections: the 1900 workers being laid off were confirmed by Microsoft earlier in the year and it's being spread out to different studios, more than the 4 affected here. Also you misspoke and said Tokyo Game works instead of Tango Game Works lol

I have never understood why these bigger companies buy other studios just to shut them down within a couple years at best. It's such a waste of money. I don't blame smaller studios for refusing to sell... It's the kiss of death.

@blackjack4677 Kinda, I guess? It's not exactly eliminating the competition when these studios were already making games for your platform, though. If you want exclusives then just make deals with those studios rather than wasting _exponentially_ more money on buying out the studio just to shut it down. That's just a huge hit financially AND in PR.

God I hope the Switch 2 really is just a Switch 2. I love my Switch and play it almost every day to unwind before going to bed, so all I want is a more powerful Switch. That also has a higher chance of being backwards compatible with the OG in both games AND the dock since it's USB-C. And really... Nintendo has a pretty good track record as far as physical backwards compatibility goes for at least one previous generation ever since the Wii. GameCube was playable on the first gen Wii, then the Wii to the Wii U. Then on the handheld side, Gameboy Color could play OG Gameboy, GBA could play OG and Gameboy Color, the DS could play GBA, and the 3DS could play DS. Then let's not forget the Super Gameboy for SNES and the Gameboy Adapter for GameCube. It would legitimately surprise me if the Switch 2 isn't backwards compatible. I've edited this like three times but I keep thinking of more shit to say. lol

I KNOW, RIGHT? It USED TO BE stuff published under the Microsoft Games Studios label (like KOTOR, Ninja Gaiden, Halo, etc) were some of the BEST games in THOSE GENRES for THAT generation. Then sometime in the 360 generation, Microsoft started to ease off the gas while PlayStation hit the nitro-boosters and NEVER LOOKED BACK.

They should sell those IP's to Toys for Bob. But as of now they've already confirmed collaboration with them to make new games so idk if they'll ever "own" those IP's. Hopefully one day though 😅

This really bums me out. I was hoping for a prey 2, imo that game is really underrated. My series x just collects dust now. I bought it because Microsoft acquired bethesda and it ran fallout 4 at 60 fps, which the ps5 does now and also to play starfield. Which is rumored to be coming to ps5.

I always look forward to your positive news, and this isn't depressing at all that almost 2000 people might be out of work! If Microsoft is going to shut down studios that have one game that doesn't perform to expectations (not like they will set them overly high either), why should I buy any of their games because they'll drop support of a game I might like but didn't sell well enough.

yeah, Switch 2 better be backwards compatible, at the very least digitally. If it isn't digitally I probably will never buy a digital game from Nintendo again and will stick with my steam deck until a 1st party Nintendo game comes out I have to play. The Switch can barely play Animal Crossing (from 2020) so a 2025 release makes the Switch (2017) feel even longer in the tooth. Still, it sold so well I can't blame Nintendo!

From what I have seen ghost wire toyko was a massive flop So tango had to turn around hi-fi rush quickly in hopes to make a profit And that game was not enough to recoup the money lost by ghost wire So the studio had 2 games in a row that failed to meet expectations so Microsoft cut it

See one the one hand I know that a knew IP is risky people say they want knew things but when the don't sell then companies go back to what's familiar. But these game companies want to move more into their big budget triple aaa IPS that sell well. That's fair but then again Sony pushed to do these types of games and according to them even though they sold allot of copies it still was not enough.

I don't see how Xbox's smaller projects are ever going to survive. I think a fun stream idea would be to go and watch some of Xbox's past E3s or Summer Games fest. I'd say like 2020 and onward and see just how many of these projects we have not heard from in quite some time. We could even guess in the chat which games are gonna get axed or not. I do think next they will move more internally to some of the projects you discussed like the one Rare has been working on. What if Hellblade 2 doesn't do well? Xbox is already piss poor at marketing and so now the game does not do good and they shut down Ninja Theory? This is only the beginning of the bad PR they're about to receive because Game Pass will HAVE to be tweaked soon. Business wise, it just seems so unsustainable. There's no growth. Sony's even struggling to grow and they had to try to sneak the Helldivers PC crowd over to inflate their numbers. Love ya Jay. Support my family.

Sounds like Microsoft got wind of the Arcane Studio wanting to go back to making Single Player games after Redfall bombed and Tango wanted to make a sequel to High-Fi Rush. Microsoft only want Online Multiplayer Live Service games and still don’t seem to understand that those games suck.

I have every console as well as PC and the xbox is easily my least played console by far. Xbox didn’t even try this generation. They literally put their system into a boring black box. Then shipped pretty much the exact same controller with it. Atleast Sony has cool haptics in the controller, even if their console design is gaudy, Atleast they still try to be innovative. Microsoft has lost the plot
