I missed where any of those publishers own a major ecosystem, store front, and hardware platform. Steam barely sells any hardware and is a major platform. The hardware is not the platform. There is nothing special about the underlying Xbox or PlayStation hardware, it is the software, services, storefront and other features that makes something an Xbox or PlayStation. It is not 2001 anymore.

Noticed something crazy. I have one game, Outer World's, on the Microsoft store (PC gamer) and it was given to me by AMD for a hardware purchase. I have 0 hours on console, cloud, mobile. But Xbox counted my Forza 4 game play and it was on Steam. They did not count my Starfield, Skyrim, Fallout game play though? Maybe it is because of the multiplayer aspect.

PC is not a platform. PC is a piece of hardware that allows you to play games amongst other things. Steam is a platform. Xbox is a platform. PlayStation is a platform. Nintendo has a platform. If you played the majority of those games through Xbox GamePass, then you played the majority of those games through the Xbox platform. It’s like saying, I don’t game on Steam, because I didn’t play majority of my games on a Steam Deck. Funny ppl get that concept when it comes to a platform like Steam but somehow playing 90% of your games through Xbox launcher and service, albeit on different hardware means you left the Xbox platform. Sony is doing the same things. I wonder when Sony gets their web app, mobile app and smart tv app for cloud streaming working, are ppl really going to sit there and say, I’m not gaming on PlayStation even though I’m buying and playing most of my games through their service. I wish they mid 30’s and up gamers get it through their heads, the industry and technology is changing and with it, business models have to change, otherwise these companies go the way of blackberry and others that refused to adapt and grow with the times.

@@Looptroop98 And neither has Xbox. Most people that mainly plays on PC is going to go buy an Xbox or PS5 for a hand full of games. If you're a console gamer and you enjoy the Xbox ecosystem, services, controller and UI then the Xbox console value has not changed for you. Or if you're someone like me with a high end PC and I have a Xbox Series X, I have the Xbox in my bedroom and my PC is in my game room. The fact that I can play Indiana Jones on my PC, and then immediately go into my room and pickup the same game on my Xbox. I also travel for work, I can't pack up a PC and 32" monitor and travel with that, but my Xbox fits in a carry on. There is value in that for me. If I wanted to do that on PS5, my option is a damned PS Portal for travel or buying additional PS5s...no thank you. Ya'll have got to move out of this 1994 mindset of what a gaming platform is. PlayStation and Xbox are certainly moving on. They are literally spending billions of dollars on expanding beyond their own hardware, and y'all are still trying to argue the traditional console model is a viable business model...clearly it isn't.

It isn't. Just play the games you want to play on the hardware and services you want to play. People spend way too much time and energy worrying about things that have nothing to do with their own personal experiences. I get some of the hardcore traditional fans are upset by some things, but at the end of the day, if the game you want to play is available where you want to play, then that's what matters. Initially I thought the Xbox multiplatform strategy would cause third party developers to scale back support for Xbox, but that isn't happening. If anything, the idea of third party exclusivity and skipping platforms is dying because of the cost and risk associated with game development today. That's why PS is now looking at acquisitions and a "portfolio concept".

Gaming in 2024: pc identity as Xbox, if you play using Ubisoft launcher it counts as Ubisoft hours and achievements. If you play using Xbox launcher it counts as Xbox hours and achievements, the same goes for PC. What a confusing mess, miss the good old days where you only had one console and that’s all you needed. Thanks Xbox.

I been playing on XBOX since OG back in the olden big box tv days, a year and half ago I built a PC and the series x and Ps5 are sitting in their boxes waiting to go to gamestop for some Steam wallet cards. But my pc is not an xbox because I use it for futures trading and taxes, ect. so, it's a gaming and business and entertainment center that I would not trade for any console marketing fluff. Plus the Ryzen 98003d will get here in a few days to keep me far ahead of any console "pro" overpriced un-upgradable plastic piece.

@ if pc gaming is winning, steam is winning. 90% of people on pc get most of their games on steam. Every game bought (including Microsoft games), steam takes a 30% cut. Whatever Microsoft does to make the pc more like a console will not stop people from buying their games on steam. I had 61 hours and was in the top 30 percentile and was in the top 25% of achievements… Xbox fans play KZbin and X(Twitter) oh it matters and it’s the reason for the 3rd party push…. Facts are facts this whole grift is finally about to come to an end. Doc you had a PC for what, no more than 3-4 months right? No way I should be that high in the stats and played 61 hours in a year, so basically we are going to move the goalpost😂🤫it’s over PC, Cloud and XSX were combined, so what are you trying to say PC is an Xbox but PC don’t play Xbox games? Oh that’s right they didn’t have any, for me to earn the first achievement in HB2 and only 53.4% of gamers got it, the truth is out so don’t get dizzy trying to spin it…34 million my ass ain’t mathematically possible.
