I know it's 2014 (almost 2015), but I just wanted to tell you that I have the exact same problem. It doesn't matter what port...or controller I plug in. What really pisses me off is that I just got off the phone with XBOX support and they had the nerve to tell me that my problem was unique!!! I told them to goggle it and they said they couldn't do that. Thanks for your videos, though, because you have solved my problem. I am going to give up and return the controllers and purchase the wireless with the rechargeable packs...

Heeey... A couple years late. Im really happy I didnt buy those 3 wired controllers today. I already have 1 wired and 3 wireless so yes. i will also have to go with the rechargable batteries :(

I'm having this issue now. Just bought 2 _identical_ black XBox 360 Controllers *for Windows*, and they fight each other like this. I wonder if this only happens to controllers that are "for Windows". It looks like the controllers use some kind of identifier that's supposed to be different for every controller, but some identical controllers use the same one. Somebody at Microsoft hacked this code that manages controllers, using the identifier instead of assigning controllers based on available controller positions like he should have done. So to solve this, your wired controllers should be a bit different, or if you want identical controllers, do what Fumps did: buy extra controllers and return all but one in each group of fighting controllers.

If you don't want to get interrupted by low battery disconnection right in the middle of a bossfight or whatever, wired is the way to go. Plus when playing FPS wired has slight faster response when pushing buttons.

Lambertseter public library in Oslo just bought 4 wired controllers for an old xbox 360 to be used in the library. All 4 controllers fight to be number 1. We got them from a trusty vendor. I'm guessing this happens to batches of controllers. Thanks for the video :)

if this is anything like ps3 hold the xbox home button and select controller options, from there you might be able to set the player number

Don't throw away those controllers, you'll need them. I've never had a system that had such shoddy controllers. Their great to use but they break down way too quick. Too bad you never shared how you resolved this problem. It seems to me like the front ports were wired to only be for "player 1" and the back ports were only for "player 2" which is crazy. Did you ever try using the wireless as player 1 first and then plug in your wired controllers? I wonder what would have happened?

Having the exact same problem. Only have two controllers, are you saying I need to buy at least one more controller to play 2 player? It's really irritating, both reading player one on the controllers and btw, they were bought new from Dell.

i think your problem was that u happen to have 2 messed up controllers that mess up everything else. xbox is great. i love how fun it feels when i use it compared to my ps3. but if u keep getting problems, you should just buy a ps3. those things never break plus its got great exclusives. unless you already have it then nvrm...lol fun video to watch

I have a similar problem. I bought a wired MS controller from walmart. Then I bought a Scuf controller. No matter what combination I try, the Scuf ALWAYS takes over the control over the MS. I'm looking for answers

I think you just have to turn the controllers in until you get one that doesn't fight with your first controller. Cause I know now that my friends older wired controller put itself as player number 2 as it should, regardless of where I pluged it in.

Make sure your voice and game volumes under preferences are at 4 or lower. Preferably 3.

Microsoft may have the software down, but when it comes to hardware they have terrible stuff. I'd rather have my stuff working with shitty software than not working at all. Thank you for making quality stuff Sony. GO PS3!

i have same problem but for one controller mot working, i have only 2 ports and my controller was working but randomly turned off… It has no damage but wont do anything, i checked the inside and its all good too

i do believe there is an issue with the batches and how they are setup to identify player 1, player 2, etc. they screwed it up and don't want to admit it. to prove this i took an older wired controller i had that i bought a couple years ago and changed out 1 of the 2 new wired controllers that i bought that were both fighting for player 1 and guess what happened? the older controller worked as player 2! unless there's some hack to fix this issue i don't think it's possible to fix the problem unless you are getting different controller batches

one question, is in only a specific pair that fight each other? i mean if you switch one of the controllers that is connected to the front usb with another, will it work as it should do then, because if not, then it wont change anything when u send in one of each "fighting pair" so to say, right? :P i mean you could just send back any of the 4 wired controllers, it wouldnt matter which one :)

Have you tried a usb extension cable, dunno but it might change things a bit

It might be the controllers because if you plugged im that 4th one in the same spot as the other one and it is player 3 and didnt become player 2 like the other controller it has to be a problem with the controllers not the console

it must be the outlet, again, especially if you had the issue with previous Xbox's and controllers

Ok today I got two new controlers from another store (the other 4 I bought last week had this exact problem in the vid) and THEY WORK as they should! So It must be a manufacturing error, the only solution to this problem is = GET YOUR MONEY BACK, and buy from a different retailer and hope they have better ones.

I Kinda have the problem... I bought a arcade paddle and it would fight with my normal paddle - and before I bought my arcade paddle the normal controller would not light up and I would get pissed so I changed to PC for a while.

Turn off your tv and then turn off your xbox. If you are using a hdmi cord then turn tour xbox 360 and your tv back on. If you are using the av cords that they give you, then get a hdmi

It's a manufacturing error so get your money back and buy them from a different store. It's nothing wrong with your console or software.

i know why its microsoft cutting back on costs the usb ports are piggy backed on each other so put 1 in front usbs and one in the back usbs i have the same pprob and opened my xbox to find out why

Xbox loves those cheap Chinese components that never quality check ANYTHING!. My issue is a bit different, in that I play on PC, my controller was Player 1 yesterday, and without changing a thing, it is Player 2 today. Sux.
