@oskArtist It's not my favourite LMG, but the M240 is controllable full-auto with the grip, where the L86 really needs to be burst fired, grip or not. The rate of fire is superior, too - which can be useful against groups of enemies. To be honest I think the M240 needs a buff - if it were 35 flat dmg instead of 30 it would be useful, as while it would still be a 3-hit kill, you wouldn't need to tie up your red perk with stopping power.

@sspope They were just long bursts :) Trouble is, the long-range combat tends to be slower paced which doesn't lend itself so well to clips - I select the higher-paced, 'action' clips over the more conservative plays.

Bling works a treat with the LMG's, adding grip with the ACOG scope makes it much more useable. A great combo for this gun would be the grip and holograhic sight.

This gun has a very sad existence in MW2 Multiplayer. In real life, the M240 uses a full rifle cartridge (7.62mm) and has a fire rate that surpasses even the most advanced of automatic weapons. Due to a unique muzzle groove and strong rear support, the M240 is capable of penetrating even some lightly armored vehicles like humvees and literally crushing human skulls and shredding flesh. This gun takes no prisoners. The effective range is also quite impressive, but the gun's muzzle actually grants it the ability to propel a bullet over half of a mile, being cited as an effective improvised anti-air weapon. Overall, the M240 is a dominant weapon on the battlefield that takes no prisoners and can eliminated large groups of enemies. This is somewhat reflected in the single-player modes of Modern Warfare 2, as the gun deals over 100 damage per shot and boasts an incredibly fast rate of fire with minimal recoil. However, the M240 is a general purpose machine gun, usually mounted atop vehicles or on hard cover and fortifications and isn't effectively employed in a mobile setting. Though possible, the gun would realistically be ridiculously slow to maneuver with and mantling obstacles would be out of the question. However, it could be used to virtually shut down any avenue in the game with an entrenched gunner. Infinity Ward, not wishing to dramatically restrict the pace of the game, decided to give this gun the mobility of other LMGs and retained its fire rate, but at the cost of damage. Thus the M240, though a user of 7.62 mm ammunition, found itself unable to compete in terms of stopping power with 5.56 mm guns. This huge flaw has been pointed out before, but fell on deaf ears. The M240 has appeared in other games, but always as the MG mounted atop tanks. The gun is far too powerful to be used by players in most circumstances.

True, but the 7.62 x 51 mm round does qualify as a rifle round. It is used in several rifles, especially marksman rifles and does qualify as a rifle cartridge. If you look up the 7.62x51mm NATO round, you will find this confirmed.

Yup. It's a heavy son of a bitch, but I like it more than the M60 in all respects. The only real downside over its predecessor is that it's heavier and longer. However, it's less bulky. The M249 is a settlement for the M240 in my opinion. It's lighter and easier to fire from the shoulder, but its round is less powerful, it has a shorter effective range, and a slower rate of fire. I definitely see where you'd want to use it: it sort of bridges the gap between carbines and machine guns. But I always like the 240 bravo for suppressing fire and general punishment.

Personally, I love using Bling for a Grip+Extended Mag combo. I play 4D1 so I run my Specialist Strike Package with this gun normally. 200 rounds of ammo is plenty to get me to my Specialist Bonus, which is nice because this gun gives you the most liberty of strike chain choices without worrying about running out of ammo. One of the best guns in the game IMO.

As a huge Fan of the M240B This gun is very inaccurately portrayed in game and likely for the better .1 irl it is a general purpose machine gun not a light machine gun. 2 it would have the same damage as the m21ebr as it fires the same 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge. 3 the fire rate is somewhat slower irl more around that of the acr. 4 when prone the recoil would be less than that of the ACR as it is designed to engage targets past 800M with 5-9 round bursts. But I understand the real life version would DESTROY weapon balance in mw2 you would have a full auto zero recoil m21 ebr with a 200 round mag all be it with horrendous handling that would render all weapons useless past flanking maneuvers. btw this guy makes epic videos and is an awesome player too

Hey Stuart, ever heard of Reload Canceling? It's when you knife or run during the reload animation, as soon as the bullets are in the current mag/belt, effectively making it a lot faster.. With the M240 Bravo, it's very effective. Makes your Sleight of Hand a wasted perk, as many guns, such as the ACR, insert a mag, then rack the bolt. Hitting the "Run" button after the mag in inserted achieves this. For me, it's second nature; AND, for "Dual mags" if you RC, it'll do the fast switch everytime

Ammo belts are contained in belt boxes (square, rectangle, trapezoid, etc.) or belt canisters (circle, oval, round, etc.). 6:59 Which makes no sense whatsoever and is an obvious case of using video game logic to "balance" weapons out. Newflash: That's not necessary! Being a belt-fed GPMG means it's going to be heavy and slow to reload, so its weaknesses should be based around that. It's chambered for 7.62 NATO which is no slouch in the knock-down power department. 7:08 GPMG, not LMG. An LMG would be chambered for an intermediate caliber. 7:40 "GPMG" and "belt," not "LMG" and "magazine." *Note:* I just noticed this video was published in 2010.

You should try using it with lightweight - the M240 has a very fast draw up time to look down the sight, and at medium range the extra bullet with grip doesn't make that much difference at all due to the rate of fire.

After using the LMGs for a long time, I'd say that the M240 is a more solid choice over the MG4. The MG4 is more controllable, but the ACR has even lower recoil and pretty much the same time to kill. However the M240's closest counterpart, the F2000 has higher recoil and less damage at range than the M240, which kills almost as quickly as the high damage LMGs due to its rate of fire.

Sorry for late comment. I made a whole guide on MW2 on Steam, so I've had to use all guns quite a lot, so I've also got quite some experience with both the MG4 and M240. I'd say that the M240 is more of a close-mid range power house, but lacks accuracy and damage over long range. The MG4 is more of an all-round LMG, able to kill quickly over any range with good accuracy. So the M240 does one thing well, which is killing quickly at shorter ranges. The MG4 doesn't do anything exceptionally well, but it's just a good all round choice if you get past the glitchy iron sights, and it really is like the ACR (and overlooked). Because of this I think the MG4 is a better overall choice (even though the it's just like the ACR), but the M240 is a great choice to have some fun and refreshment. I still think IW needs to fix the silencers on both guns (and all the other stupid glitches of course).

TheGamefreak484 See, my problem with the MG4 is that it's literally just a weaker version of the RPD, or a bulkier version of the ACR. It offers no discernible advantage over an RPD with grip, and whatever advantages it has over the ACR are cancelled out by the fact that it has a slower ADS. The M240 at least has an area in which it can do well: a rapid-fire weapon that doesn't kick like a mule and can reliably down people at medium range. This is why I say that the M240 is "better" than the MG4--sure, the MG4 might be better rounded, but in any situation where the MG4 is good, you can bet that there's another gun that's better.

+Andrew Wang Another late comment. I get your take on RPD>MG4 but I feel that the MG4's higher rate of fire rewards better aiming at mid range specifically. Sometimes the RPD's recoil even with the grip puts a few more shots out and the slower fire rate makes this a bit annoying for me at times. Can't fault the RPD's spraying power at other ranges though. MG4 with SoH negates the ADS thing and while the ACR is of course more accurate than the MG4 w/o grip, its ammo, clip size and lack of damage drop-off and faster ADS (than non-SoH ACR) makes it a clear winner in certain class setups. E.g. MG4 SoH with a Stinger offers some great benefits that can't be found with any other weapon setup.
