Chainsaw isn't optimal for combat, but for sure I am not gonna go againts it.

Remember seeing the main character use one of these in the visual novel Tokyo Necro. She loved using it over the more standard anti undead weaponry mostly out of rebellion towards her father. Also cause she is a bit of a spitfire. She even customized the thing to be even louder than a normal chainsaw even though by the time the story takes place, the technology is there to make it quiet. Suffice to say, lots of blood, gore and limbs were flying when she swung that thing around.

i think you do make a good point on the transition of chainsaw from a terror weapon in films to a bloody fun weapon for players, heroes, and monster killers. i think that in a sense explains its depiction in anime/manga chainsaw man as a weapon that other devils fear. for it is depicted as the best way to remove ones fear of killing monsters it makes you the monster
