Which tube is in v3 of your vb-3? And did you try changing it?

Its a 12AT7 as the manual calls for. You can try a 5751 to reduce the gain further.

Cool. Thanks. I'm thinking about buying one or the other of these. Looks like I'm leaning toward the vb2 right now.

@@jmstroupe sweet! Yeah the lower gain tube should fix the clipping issue, but the proper way to fix it is to adjust the bias resistors. The VB2 is a traditional featured valve amp, and most popular.

Each have their pros and cons. It really depends on the application. The VB-2 with an overdrive pedal in the front of it, SWEET! The VB-3 for a nice clean tube sound, AMAZING! It's OD channel with the 6CA7s is far more usable in my opinion. Not as harsh. The VB-MA overdrive channel mixes perfectly with the blend channel adding back in the clean signal.

How does the compressor work on the VB-3?

Extremely well! At 2-3 the compression is mild, perfect for live playing. At 5 or higher its like elephant feet, it really compresses the signal where it doesn't make sense. IMHO its a great feature, but I can see why many didn't really like it. The compressor was removed in the VB-MA in exchange for the channel blend/tone control.
