Xc 47 technical walkthrough

At the beginning of August, the Technical manager of X-Yachts John Morsing and X-Yachts Global Market Manager Torben Kornum, visited the Xc 47 in the production in Haderslev.

The propulsion specifications are all over the map. You've clearly compromised the motoring performance to go with this electric option. You've spec'd a 25 kW electric motor for propulsion yet in the diesel version you've selected a diesel with over double the continuous rated output at 59kW. At minimum 15,000 kg displacement you're only at 1.6 kW per ton well under the 2 kW per ton industry standard which most vessels exceed including your conventionally diesel powered version at 3.9 kW per ton. Curious what your thoughts and test results have shown performance wise. Specifically why the power discrepancy in a design billed at the ultimate blue water boat.

Why would you include the generator if the boat has the diesel option? These are lithium based batteries, which means their charge rates are very high. Why not charge the house bank at 100 amps+ from the propulsion diesel? At 1.4 kWh + your be recharged very quickly. With a bank that size dual alternators and near 3kWh should be possible.

You could add an 48v alternator that gives you up to 9kw so you are correct a generator is overkill unless you want safety backup.

Love the vacuum epoxy with kevlar reinforcing construction. Love the fact that it doesnt have a torpedo keel bulb. The interior layout is great as is the fit of tankage and systems. The hexagonal windows and the coachroof are "bleach my eyes" level of ugly and the idea of hanging a dinghy off davits that are attached to a folding swim platform some 60 cm off the water is such an hopeless design. It incorporates the rear that works poorly with a braindead solution for dinghy storage. The looks are subjective, but if you are making a blue water focused boat, have it made with appropriate design from the get go. Hell, you could just offer a factory made solar arch, fixed wind screen and factory fitted bimini that covers the entire cockpit and is easily deployed. The people down south wont get anything without sun cover and even here up in the Nordics, being able to block out the rain and snow would be essential to separate this from other cuirsers. So much potential and great workmanship ruined by atrocious design that is not fit for intented use.

Where does the tender go? Foredeck? And how is it launched and retrieved?

Every single X-Yacht ever built have a centerlift where you lift the boat via the steelframe that is built into the hull.

@TehCoiL I did not mean lifting the yacht. I meant where is the tender stowed - davits or foredeck? If foredeck how is it launched. The tender is often an afterthought on cruising yachts but is enormously important

That's the really funny thing, they have come up with a "solution" of a sorry tiny davits that are attached to the folding swim platform, so you can hang your tender off the stern some foot or two off the water. So it will be in the way should you moor stern to and it will also be useless at sea. But it would be interesting to see if the whole platform would be ripped off if the tender got pooped on from breaking waves from behind.

I have 8 100 amps lithium batteries in my 23ft trailer. That is good for a week boomdocking. This is not suficiente for this boat, on heavy usage the generator will be running virtually all day long. Noise hell for sure.

Still don’t get the thought of building a plastic boat with an e motor to reduce carbon!! You can leave 100 k technology behind with a better result.
